I remember taking the 7 into Shea and seeing a couple of P-42's going in, an Acela coming out, and another Acela blasting its horn before it went in (it must've traveling 90 mph or so.)

That is the Sunnyside Railyard, in Queens BTW, that is the big link to Penn Station for some of those trains.
True, you do see the Railyard when the 7 goes into the tunnel, and you see some tunnels for the other trains...
