Learn your Joe history. Zartan infiltrated the Arashikage clan to kill Snake Eyes under orders from cobra commander. Zartan took one of Stormshadow's arrows and used it to attempt to kill Snake Eyes. He mistakenly killed the Hard Master instead.

Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were friends. They referred to each other as "Sword Brothers".

Stormshadow, Snake Eyes and Stalker were in vietnam together. When their helicopter was shot down (assuming by the VC) Snake-Eyes recieved the wounds that disfigured his face and stole his voice. Stalker thought he was too badly injured and wanted to leave him, but Stormshadow went back, under fire, to save Snake Eyes.

That's what I remember from the comics anyway.

Not quite... those were two different chopper incidents. Snake Eyes was shot down before getting to the helo in Nam.

The crash that disfigured him happened on a hostage rescue mission when he was already on the GI Joe team. A helo got dust in the intake and slammed into the chopper with Snake Eyes and Scarlett on board.
