Holyfield was lucky to get to Tyson before Lewis. The outcome was to re launch Holyfield's fame + career.
Lewis would of course have knocked Tyson out, imho, as we can see here.

Tyson's greatest weakness has always ironically been infighting which forced the holds. If would throw body punches and stay busy on the inside then the holding would be irrevlant but throughout his career he's always been a guy that landed hooks and uppercuts lunging in from the outside.

A lot of bruised egos writing comments. As its often said, styles make fights. The fact is Lewis was a mismatch for Tyson. Tyson's face was a target practise for Lewis's jab and he couldn't do anything about it. When he tried to get inside, Lewis used the oldest trick in the book and wrapped his arms, and then threw in a right uppercut every so often. Lewis might not have had the strongest chin, but he was a good technician and intelligent boxer. He was never gonna try to out-fight Tyson.

People would rather give up their belts than face Lewis.
1992 - Bowe dumped the WBC title in a trash can and relinquish it.
1996 - Rather than fight Lewis, Tyson relinquised the WBC belt and the title was declared vacant.
Even George Foreman declared "He is, no doubt, the best heavyweight of all time. What he's done clearly puts him on top of the heap."

Holyfield was lucky to get to Tyson before Lewis. The outcome was to re launch Holyfield's fame + career.
Lewis would of course have knocked Tyson out, imho, as we can see here.
One outcome would have been no Holyfield/Tyson. No headbutting, no ear contouring.
At least Tyson finished both fights with EH on his feet, which is better for MT than would have been the case against Lewis, in all likelihood. Lewis simply too big for MT.

@28rampage He achieved what nobody else has achieved (so he hardly pissed all over his legacy). But I agree it should of been much better given his talents. You are quite right in what you are saying. There was an earlier suicide attempt in 1988, driving a car into a tree, and he was prescribed lithium (as proven by Dr Halpern's 1988 report). I agree totally with what you say, that's why people like Lennox Lewis, Kevin McBride and Danny williams should get no credit whatsoever.

Schade das Tysen Lenox nicht früher herausgefordert hatte, da wäre das Ergebnis genau Andersum , Tysen war nicht in seiner Besten Form , zu viel Gewicht , zu langsam , wich den Schlägen schlecht weg , hat sich nur auf den Lucky Punch verlassen... Für mich ist Tysen ( von ca 1985-1987) der beste Boxer aller Zeiten danach Vitalij Klitschko

Tyson's greatest weakness has always ironically been infighting which forced the holds. If would throw body punches and stay busy on the inside then the holding would be irrevlant but throughout his career he's always been a guy that landed hooks and uppercuts lunging in from the outside.

You fanatics are funny. Always making excuses for your man. Why can't you accept that Lennox had the better game plan and out-boxed Tyson. After Buster Douglas exposed Tyson and knocked him out in his 'prime', he was never the same fighter. And it don't matter if he was past his best. He talked a lot before the fight about what he was gonna do to Lennox, but he didn't back it up in the ring. No excuses!

A lot of bruised egos writing comments. As its often said, styles make fights. The fact is Lewis was a mismatch for Tyson. Tyson's face was a target practise for Lewis's jab and he couldn't do anything about it. When he tried to get inside, Lewis used the oldest trick in the book and wrapped his arms, and then threw in a right uppercut every so often. Lewis might not have had the strongest chin, but he was a good technician and intelligent boxer. He was never gonna try to out-fight Tyson.
