Sound quality, performance, longevity, all these things are subjective are depend a lot on the dealers willingness to properly prep, regulate, and voice the piano.
Choose it on heritage and proven investment properties. There will be no piano ANYWHERE that will totally outclass a s&s D. some may like a bosi or W/E. But just try to sell a 20 year old bosi or fazi. GOOD LUCK.
It seems you are not familiar with the used piano market. Faziolis command ~50% premium compared to any steinway of the same size. SS are mass produced pianos compared to faziolis, with plenty of supply always available in the market.
Besides, you are financially naive to regard a piano as an 'investment'. All pianos depreciate, especially SS Ds whose sheer size makes them undesirable in the used market. SS Cs hold their value better for this reason.

S&S are mass produced pianos...
Yeah, talk about not being familiar with something your ignorance on this subject is laughable.
Steinway are ALL hand made, taking over a year to manufacture one instrument. And last years season over 98% of concert artists chose to play on Steinway, and not a one of them were paid any amount of money to do so.
take a chance with the fazi or the guarantee with a Steinway, its your choice.
Again, your comments reveal you are not familiar with the piano market. Steinway makes about 10X more model Ds than Fazioli makes 308s. Both are hand made but you can always find a used D, in many cases for < $40K. That's what the 'guarantee' buys you.
A good analogy is that many people drive mercedes cars. They are good vehicles, but they do not compare in performance to a lamborghini.
I am happy with my fazi purchase. I hope you are happy with your D.
Actually, the number is much higher than that! Steinway build about 5,000 pianos a year, while Fazioli build 110. Fazioli, also take nearly twice as long, from start to finish, to build a single piano.
THe Fazioli has a depth of dynamic range that to my ears appears greater than the Steinways and Bosie's. The Fazioli base has a clarity unmatched by other pianos which can make it sound thin where the Steinway sounds fuller. The only piano I've played that The Fazioli also has an easily adjustable duplex scale which no other piano offers that I'm aware of. I like better is the Steingraeber for its outstanding linearity of touch and scale.
I think you would have been better of with a Bosendorfer or a Steinway model B. The Fazioli sounds nice, but it sounds artifical. The piano loses the characteristics that in my opinion, make a piano. Faziolis are way overpriced too. Not to mention it has no hertitage. Steinway & Sons practically invented the modern grand piano.
Hi Jake, I've encountered a number of people that share your opinion. However, of the people who actually have played my instrument, only one person still preferred their steinway. In regards to cost, actually fazioli, steinway, and boesendorfer are interchangeable when comparing like instruments. Check the retail price of a hamburg C, it is actually more than a fazioli 228. In regards to heritage, give it time. Paolo Fazioli builds pianos that discerning pianists seek out.
"Artificial" would never be a term I would use to describe a Fazioli grand. Clear, articulate, balanced and distinct seem more appropriate "character traits" for these pianos.
fazioli rules. i´ve been in every pianomanufacture. steinway, blüthner, seiler, bechstein. i´ve played all. yamaha, kawai, young choung, marshall, nordiska, seiler, grotrian steinweg, schimmel, ibach, sauter, klug&sperl, astoria, petrof, hyundai, boesendorfer, streicher, zimmermann, euterpe, kimball, broadwood, i can´t imagine myself, i have done it on every piano. but fazioli are the most beautiful sound instruments. so neutral for every kind of music, so clearly, so rich in tune
my head is going to explode, im only a kid and all (17), but im already planning what brand of piano im going to buy, the problem is, there are too many brands to choose from
if you want an affordable brand, go for rx kawai or petrof. and maybe shigeru kawai if you have higher budget. check out seiler if you want a german make
It's brittle...I don't get the 'like'
It is beautifully built though-honestly

Are you having sex or buying a piano.
You can't possibly compare these two
instruments. If you want uppers...go to
a Baldwin or (God) a Yamaha.
For this kind of shit, Steinway works
well. Really impress the crowd with
the Bossendorfer that supposedly
already own!

Wow! What a gorgeous instrument!Wishing you many years of enjoyment.

Never mind the piano. You play VERY well. You'd still sound good on a clapped-out old upright.
