Like you could be the seer and find a wolf (now pick do you say now and seal your and the wolf's fate or do you wait to see if you can find the other werewolf and run the risk of being killed without giving any info.
If someone is a seer and comes out and says "Joe is the Werewolf, and I know this to be true because I'm the seer", I wonder if it would behoove the werewolves to not kill the seer at night, just to see the villagers do it during the day (the obvious move for werewolves, once the seer is revealed, is to kill the seer immediately). The werewolves kill a different villager and the seer gets killed by the villagers during the day because someone who pretended to be a seer would likely be a wolf.

If someone comes out and says "x is the wolf" then the village will lynch x. if x is a wolf then seer will die at night, if x is not wolf then the one who said is seer will be lynched next day because he was lying. However, if someone claims he is the seer, he will usually be counter-claimed by someone else ...so its much more complex that that :) The wolves have absolutely no reason to NOT kill the actual seer..

@ismetteren Yeah, I remember playing versions with many roles on irc. There were roles such as the Fool, someone who is told they're the Seer by the moderator but their readings are always random. There was also the Guardian, who could protect the targeted villager at night from dying if they guessed the victim correctly, and there was also an Assassin, who worked independently, and could kill any one player at will during the night.
Werewolf is always great time with friends that can role-play or are great at bluffing, but it's not for everyone. . .some times a few beers can loosen everyone up and make it a blast. . .might try this at an upcoming house warming party in January. . .

Hmm... strange... I've played this game, only it was called mafia. When we play we don't reveal our identities until the end of the game though (unless someone reveals it while they're still alive). Personally I think it's more exciting when the identity of the person who has been killed is not revealed. That way people have no idea if they voted on the right person or not.
I agree! Is it the official rule of Werewolf that identity is revealed once they are killed? I too have always played where no one knows who has really been dying until the end.

Lawls, I love this game. The only difference is that I use bird names and such for the special characters. (Werewolf = Shapeshifter, Seer = Crow, Doctor = Owl, etc.)

The game I play if more different, there's a sheriff, little girl, witch, fortune teller (seer), hunter, cupid, thief and so on. The witch has a healing and killing potion, the hunter can't kill one other person if they get killed in any way, the little girl can peek when the werewolves choose their prey, the sheriff gets an extra vote, the thief can switch cards and cupid inflicts love upon 2 characters and if one of them die, no matter who they are, the other one dies too.
And whenever they're about to vote off a werewolf, and I'm a werewolf, I also vote that werewolf off just to show that I'm not too shady. They were a goner anyways, might as well use it to my advantage.
Huh? What about Jason? Werewolf is no fun without Jason, honestly. Lovers, witch and hunter also add wonderfully to the mix, by the way. But it's a great game, I love playing it.

There is another version of this game that you might of heard of called 'dark friend,' and I learned about this at Dragon*con :)
In this version, there is also a protector, but thank you for this video:)
It describes the basics in a very fun way!
