  • i already configured my BIOS settings and i was un aware that i needed to make the Cd Rom drive the 1st drive to boot. im trying to go back into my bios now to change it but it wont let me make the changes, the selection is greyed out. any reason as to why its like this?

  • Ty ;)

  • Hey can you do a tutorial on how to configure your Bios using Hyper X 2gb(x2) memory ram for dual channel use?

  • my computer keeps resetting when i try to boot from a CD... ugh -___- any tips?

  • Thanks for the amazing videos, the building itself is explained everywhere, but things like this not. Thanks again, just finished my pc 5 mins ago and windows 7 is installing right now :D.

  • Thank you som much. This was excatcly what i was looking for. Great job dude

  • what do you recommend i do for one hard drive (i plan to get an SSD later on for OS and some apps)?

  • hello friend

    and end my gaming PC

I only need to put the operating system

I have a 2TB hard drive. I have to do what you?

I saw another video of the first start and did not change anything in raid

  • if im only using 1 HDD (500gb) is it necessary to partition a section for the OS or can i leave it as one partition?

  • @r1ck5tar You can leave it as one.

  • Hi, I checked the 'raid' in the bios where ist said sata mode. but when I reboot it does not ask me to press ctrl+I (or any other combination)??

  • @geunsjl You may need to look in your motherboard manual to identify how to get to the RAID configuration.

  • lol he said dicks at 4:11

  • for sound cards, do i need to boot the computer first without the card being connected? i know this is the norm for GPU's. first time builder.

  • @ataoldotcom no, and you dont need to do that with GPUs either.

  • HAVE A QUESTION IM USING WIN 7 ULT, RANDOMLY MY PC FREEZES UP, ESPECIALY WHEN PLAYING GAMES OR WATCHING MOVIES AND ONCE IT DOES I CANT MOVE THE MOUSE I CANT PRESS CTRL ALT + DEL THE ONLY THING I COULD DO IS RESTART THE COMPUTER MANUALLY FROM RESTART BUTTON.... I TRIED TO TEST THE RAMS WITH MEMTEST IT JUST FREEZES AT 3%... I HAVENT INSTALLED MOTHERBOARD TRIVERS... I HAVE INSTALLED NVIDIA DRIVERS.. POWR SUPLY IS 750W RUNS GOOD.. ANY IDEA WHAT IT MAIGHT BE?

  • @plzlogmein Are you overclocking? Also, please dont type in all caps - it's really annoying.

  • @sciguy14 sorry about the caps friend, no im not overclocking, i kind of solved the problem by increasing my RAM voltage from 1.5 to 1.7 now its running more stable, im running evga 790i with q9550 and corsair 4 g ram 9-9-9-24 apearntly my mobo does run well with default bios settings and i have very lil knowledge on how to over clock... i have win7 64 bit also im running raid 0... oh one more thing my bios version is the 6.0 pg (2008) so its really old, could that cause freezes as well? tanx

  • @plzlogmein It's unlikely that your BIOS version is causing the causing the problems. You can always check the change log to see if newer problems corrected stability issues.

  • RAID is so damn confusing.

can you shoose which one to have ?

  • 14 people wish they could build Macintosh.... Win for this guy though!! Thumbs up!!

  • Nice and clearly explained. Thank you.

  • you might want to start off by saying you have a built in raid bios alot of boards dont

, I have a board that dosnt and im trying to use rocket raid 2300 and it dosnt work i can get vista loaded on hdd then install to raid card then add drive but cant install vista64 with card in and drives connected to cad cant find drives

  • really got instructional video man! thank you, now i have a question for myself if you could give some advice...

i have XFX mobo with RAID controler onboard, i had problem when i activate the raid in BIOS, when i choose the two 250GB drives to make them as stripe my mobo didn't recognize the other two single drives i had... its like i was forced to make them all work as RAID... sooo any tips?

  • @oetzi0000 You can still use the other drives as single drives, but the'll need to be re-initialized in the operating system.

  • @sciguy14

    and by re-initializing you mean?

    thanks for the reply btw

  • @oetzi0000 YOu maye need to to go to the drive manager in control panel's Administrative's Tools and reformat the drive to get them read after switching the mode of your hard drive controller.

  • What if I only have 1 HDD, do I have to setup anything in the BIOS or is everything by default?

  • @12eb3L You have to change some things, like boot order, but you don't have to mess with RAID.

  • @sciguy14 just the boot order for the hdd/cd right? the pc will automatically detect all other settings?

  • @12eb3L yes, usually.

  • do they both have to be the same size cuz i got a 640 gig and a 320 gig

  • @CrazyLoco61 for raid, yes.

  • what if i have the os already installed will it delete everything or will it be o.k?

  • @CrazyLoco61 IT will delete it.

  • the last disk is not "JBOD"

    its simply nothing.

  • type in youtibe.com and see what happens

  • this is great

  • SINCE this is my first time watching this video im im good at everything but the programing would u recommend a beginner like me to do somthing like this???

  • In Windows Vista Installation Screen, Just in case The RAID Drives cannot be detected by Vista and we have to Load the Driver Manually, can i Load the Driver from a CD or USB Flashdisk ? because simply i dont use Floppy Disks anymore,

  • so i only need to do RAID if i have more than one hdd?

  • @ownemall Even then you don't have to. See my other video on the subject.

  • What about just one drive?

I'm using IDE but windows doesn't recognise...

  • @HowToDs Raid is only for multiple drives.

  • la bios exelente

  • The problem with all geeks is that they never get beyond the level of minutia.

They can burn with passion about setting up complex processes

and then..when its all done, guess what? They have NOTHING to say, hey are now free to play endless

video games. Shoot the bad guy, fly the rocket through the maze, sink the ship

hour after hour with not the smallest awareness of how infantile it all is.

But ask them to make a coherent statement on philosophy, history or poetry and theygo blank

  • @ehunter2 I completely disagree with that. I'm at Cornell studying Electrical Engineering, and I've taken courses in writing, sociology, economics, and media communications to supplement my engineering work. I often engage in philosophical debate, and I rarely play video games.

  • @sciguy14 I live near Cornell, I guess I know where to go if I need help :P

  • Comment removed

  • @ehunter2 Aswell I compleatly disagree. I am a computer programer and ICT person and I am taking a cource in computer programing and economics along with engineering. I also posses qulification in buisness studies aswell.

  • @ehunter2 Not really sure why it matters but it sounds like you've never asked one. My freshman english courses are very memorable because of the philosophical works we studied and analyzed. Not saying I enjoyed them.....

  • @ehunter2 The problem with you is you act like you're trying to be insightful or a world changer, yet you're doing it through Youtube comments, what a saint.

  • Comment removed

  • @ehunter2 You are so wrong... I would rip you to shreds in any philosophical debate - whilst building a PC.

  • @ehunter2 Sounds like someone is jealous because he knows he could never build anything.

  • What Happen's if the 'Full Screen LOGO Show' is enabled?@sciguy14

  • What happens when PC with RAID dies, can i put my 3 raid hard disc's in new PC and aces data like on last one ?

  • I'v been thinking of building a computer for the last couple of days, Seeing as iv had this one for about 3 years now and its had 2 major crashes and the "guy" has had to rip it from the jaws of life to bring it back...

How hard it is to understand Bios settings? is there a list of of explanations anywere on the net i could take a look at?

building it looks quite easy but this part not so much lol

  • Shouldn't it be 3 TB instead of 2 TB? I guess I don't get what RAID 5 does.

  • my computer say reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key lol

  • thank you for that plus those neat little tricks with Vista \o/ XD trez awesome. i am a complete noob btw

  • Thanks for this video. It was helpful.

  • I see you didn't restart the computer till you finished installing all the drivers, I was always told you should restart after installing each one, is the any difference if you do it one at a time rather than all at once (other than being time consuming obviously) ?

  • How about the graphics card do you start up the comp with the graphics card driver cd? im using a hard drive that was in my old comp so it already has an OS

  • Thanks so much! I wish I had 4 TB lol. So do you have to buy the Windows installer? Or does it come with your Motherboard? Im thinking of making my own computer in a few months...

  • @Awesomenessinaway You need to buy windows.

  • @sciguy14 or just torrent it >.>

  • @Awesomenessinaway Wow your dumb

  • @xXiTzKlutchXx So says the guy who doesn't know the difference between a contraction and possessive noun.

  • Last Night, i ordered parts to make a new computer, i'm just wondering if the disk with all the drivers comes with the Video card/ CPU/ Mobo? which one does it come with? im going to guess Video card? another thing is, i bought AMD parts. so would it be very different or not?

  • @flippppurple Only disk you might need to use is the motherboard disc. But odds are that windows will get all your drivers automatically. You should download the newest video card drivers online.

  • @sciguy14 dude would u know how 2 setup raid 0 4 windows 2 on a asrock 890gx extreme 3 motherboard

  • why do you set up a seprate partition for your operating system? is that necessary?

  • @beingbanana No, it's a matter of preference.

  • Do you have to use RAID and is it better if you do?

  • @ZaVeeRGuN You can not use RAID if you only have one Hard Drive, also you do not have to use RAID. RAID is commonly used for combing Hard Drives together, so it makes a larger and faster Hard Drive. You should check out NCIX's Channel, they have videos that explane RAID.

  • @ZaVeeRGuN Not required, but can be used in multi-drive setups. Watch my Techbits Episode 2.

  • @ZaVeeRGuN You dont of course have to use RAID, but I wouldn't want to be without the RAID 0 setup I've just done with 2 new WD Caviar Blue drives.

  • This video and some of your other videos related to computer building have really motivated me and given me more confidence to build my first computer. Thank you so much!

  • @t4mil1an I'm really glad to help!

  • very good video i think i am going to build my own computer and this would help lots

  • u have to change back to 'boot from HDD' after installing windows right?

  • @099psp It doesnt matter, he put boot from HDD as second priority. This means if the computer sees no disc in the CDROM its gonna boot automatically from the HDD. And most people don't change it cause if your HDD dies or has a virus on it, you wanna boot from the DVD and reinstall windows.

  • @Serutos lol i always change back to "Boot From HDD"

  • Hey can you help me?

I have enabled audio on bios and it works...

I try to play music on youtube and the All2WAV recorder can measure the sounds.

But when i plug in headset/speaker on the back of my computer i can't hear anything.

I think this problem is on bios too..

  • @chaosbib Check audio drivers, and ensure you're plugging it into the right port. It should be the green one. Make sure the speakers are powered and their volume is turned up.

  • @sciguy14 Audio is C-Media AC'97 Audio Device

Location PCI BUS 0 Device 2 Function 7

    Driver Version 5.12.1.51

I think the problem is the plug socket

btw, i don't want to fix it i will buy 2nd hand sound card :D

  • When Partitioning the drives why would you want to Partition the drive at 250gb if you have 1 terabyte drives and so on?

  • @JohnandAshley13 The 250 GB drive was for the OS. It works alot faster if you have your OS and private files separated.

  • if you had 3 1 TB drives and put into RAID 5 (which idk what that is please explain) how come it came out as only 1863GB?

  • @xLittleVinnie Watch my techbits on RAID to learn about RAID 5. One of the three discs is used for parity info.

  • @xLittleVinnie Its four hard drives,isn't it?

  • LOL!

    "These three dicks..."

Paging Dr. Freud. Just kidding. I would have done an audio edit though.

  • Awesome vid :D i learn something today! oh, when you were installing the driver what does the chipset driver do? is it necessary to install it?

  • whoa! slow down a little! are you excited? good info!

  • Thanks, I learned so much from you.

  • what setup are u using

  • @gregrory89 The Bios and RAID setup.

  • @sciguy14 i mean the parts that u are using

  • hi building first computer i get every thing what to do how to install it and how to install the os but the one thing i dont get is updating the bios and do i realy need to do it? i am going to install windows 7

  • @THEMRJISHERE You only need to update your bios if your motherboard is not recognizing your CPU or RAM.

  • @sciguy14 how can you teel if it does not recognize ram or cpu

i think i will have to update it then

  • Wtf. No need to do all this.

  • @igonnagetfsx Yes there is, if you plan to use RAID.

  • if I am not doing a raid configuration, can i just pop the windows 7 disk and install it?

  • Did you use a RAID controller on this video?

  • @123456iambelial onboard RAID controller

  • Can anybody tell me what is this RAID thing please???

  • @nrgshkl093 Watch my techbits episode about it. It will explain it.

  • Initially when he did the raid Configuration on the three 1TB hard drives, he only ended up with 2TB of space. What happened to the other 1TB drive?

  • @FannoFlow It's RAID 5. 1 drive is used for parity data.

  • i have a question, i have baracuda 7200.10 and 7200.12,both 160gb,whill they work normal in raid or do i have to have indentical hdd's?

  • @pur1tus no they are different drives you need to buy the same one of your 2

  • @pur1tus I have raid 0 using Samsung 200 Gb and WD 500 GB . Just wanted to see if it would work and it does!So my rais is @ 400 Gb.

    Hope this helps you.

  • i only has 1 hard drives so that mean i didt need use raid right?

  • @starkillertoy right

  • Love it man, somehow i fucked up my raid and this guide helped me through it! Many thx

  • I've a question. If you have more than one hard drive, do you have to use a Raid configuration? I've never really understood those...

    Thanks!

  • @sephykoi Most of the time people use raid while using multiple hard drives. The 3 types of raid which are most commonly use are raid 0, 1 and 5.

  • @hatoff84 Hi, so then does that mean that it's not a requirement? It's optional?

    Thanks!

  • @sephykoi Raid 0- Its striped with no parity. Striping means it writes data to multiple disks, while no parity means it has no protection against

corruption of data. It's mostly used for faster read/write time.

Raid 1- Its also called Mirroring. In this raid, it makes a backup of all data on the hard drives onto another HDD. So if your HDD fails, you will have a full backup of that data.

Raid 5- Its striped with parity. In which it basically implements raid 0 and 1.

  • trying to setup raid 0 win7 64bit for some strange reason my sata dvd drive shows up as raid and when trying ti install win7 it ask for dvd drivers when I disable raid to ahci it will install without any problems how can I get the dvd off of raid

  • Hello I have 2 questions:

    1. After Windows 7 is installed and i want to install an application or program on one of 2 SATA Hard Drives, how do I choose wher I install the program?

    2. And which RAID do you think is a good choice for 2 500GB Hard Drives on a really good PC for Gaming?

  • Comment removed

  • @BZ4LiFe90210

Go with Raid0 it should be best performance.

  • You should you tell people what to get without telling them the risks of it.

Raid0 = One hard drive fails... it all fails.

  • Yeah thats true. If one fail both fail.. my mistake. :) i do it better next time lol

  • 4 terabytes O_O

  • PLZ reply

  • Help i accidentally put restore default and now my pc dooesnt load up one of the .sys files and stays forever boooting

  • In the bios? Make sure your hard drive is the first boot device...

  • yes in the bios ya it is 1st, 1st is hdd secong is CD drive 3rd is 1ST Floppy drive. maybe a file has corrupted

  • What if our only SATA hard drive shows up as the slave drive? (The master drive slot is blank)

  • bluegreentiger, you have to use the right jumper configuration, google it and figure it out. it's not very hard to do

  • That makes no sense, SATA doesn't have master and slave.

  • @sciguy14, didnt know that sry, my pc still has IDE so didnt know XD

  • would you be able to use your OS disk to partition your hard drive without installing the operating system? (considering you already have your OS installed but just need to partition it)

  • if your OS is already installed, you shouldn't mess with the partition it is installed on.

  • Are SATA2 drives backwards compatible with SATA HDD's?

  • i meant SATA2 slots on the mobo

  • yes

  • i have this problems with installing Xp on a vista desktop pc and i cant seem to find the same options in my bios settings for sata and raid...if you could be of help mr sci

  • Do you mean you are replacing Vista with XP? You only need to use those settings if you are doing RAID.

  • i have an acer m1641 desktop pc which is a vista machine...but i wanted to use xp for its os...my first attemp installs blue screens me ..

  • ..the message is those stop (0x000) stuff like those....by the way my rom is also Sata....my next solution is to use a IDE rom which let me get on the set up but the problem is on set up the sata is not present...when after f8 on continuing windows set up.. really appreciating your help sir

  • If there is no data on the predefined first boot device (HDD), the secon boot device will commence booting, ain't it like that?

So swapping the HDD with the DVD drive isn't really necessary, or am I wrong?

  • Not if the hard drive is first. If HDD is first boot device, and is not bootable, it will say "missing OS". If optical drive is first and not bootable, it will skip to HDD.

  • What if you only have 1 HDD? Do you still have to do RAID?

  • @liamm1231 Nope

  • I just bought 2 Western Digital 640gb HDDs and i was wondering if i have to set them as master and slave if they are in raid 0 as they came with no jumpers?

  • SATA drives dont user jumpers, so no.

  • This is a great video, going into the guts of a computer and setting it up. This is the type of stuff that makes sciguy14 "TheMan"! Great stuff. Top marks from a wanna be geek hopefully earn my geek keep after learning this. Thanks!

  • Glad you liked it!

  • thanks for the video, i have a question ¿ wher did you go or what did you press so the screen (3:26) of partitions showed? its after booting the windows disk?

  • cntrl-I on this board enters the RAID config. You only use that if you are using RAID.

  • Thanks that solved my problem. it was vary helpful!

  • I don't get that "RAID" thing, whats it for and why mess with it?

  • See my techbits episode on RAID.

  • I have two HHD. One WD Velociraptor 150 gb which I want to use for OS and program installation and a WD 1tb for storage. I am a newbie so dont trash me for asking a dumb question. How would I go about it with the configuration??

  • I have nForce4 DDR2:MF4 Series motherboard and i need a bios update

because my bios got corupted and now its running in safe mode.

My procesor is AMD Althon 64 3000+, Socket AM2(940)

have an idea where i can gind it i wus seraching goggle for hours but no chance

  • Great video. Can you do one on bios update?

  • i press delt to go to setup n it does nothing

  • its not delete on every computer. Check the manual.

  • i have to press F2 to get into my bios setup

  • try esc

  • Comment removed

  • good vid, it would have been perfect if you were doing raid 0 which is what I need to know

  • You follow the same procedure. I've shown that in some other videos.

  • hi , i setup raid 0 so how do i confirm that it is set successfuly

coz when i launch a game (Alone in the dark inferno) and go to the display option i get error message that a problem caused the program to close , windows will notify you if a solution is available ,

so i don't know if i messed up the raid 0 or is it a compatibility issue between the game and windows7 ultimate 64-bit

  • great vid !, very informative

  • is RAID nessacary if you are only using one harddrive?
