I dont think so! Have you not heard his voice during the "moog synth" years when they did 15 Big Ones, Love You(especially this one!) and M.I.U, his voice was very different but still great!
Nobody could sing this like Carl. He could hit that high note clear as a bell. In Brian's solo version one of the singers took over at the high note.
This must be the version that was recorded during the Wild Honey era. I believe that's Carl singing at :12. This is that strange period when they sounded almost exactly alike.
@sfan1 hmm.... you know, you MIGHT be right... it does kinda sound like the way carl sings more than it does brian... but to say "the wild honey era" is not a huge deal... i mean, we're still talking about 1967 here.
@teknokrat1 You're right, but at that point, SMiLE was shelved and truly was dead. I find it fascinating that Brian still played it and sang it with Carl after the fact. And to hear it with that distinct piano timbre of the upright they used throughout Wild Honey gives me some serious chills. It seems the only time SMiLE was thought of seriously was when filler was needed. "Mama Says" track at the end of WH is a perfect example.
Hello Brian! I'm really excited for tomorrow. You and the guys have given me so much peace and joy, and tomorrow there will only be more. All my love and respect to you for the artist you are. God has used you in extraordinary ways and may you give him the glory for the gifts he has given you. What a blessed set of guys you were/are, all five of you, six including Bruce. May God's love and mercy cover you all.

pmoyer50 - you seem like a true fan, yeah you guessed it. I think M. Love
would not have been a part of this all had it not been for his being a relative.
The rest of them obviously have talent, him, he should have been a pro
wrestler, that's his obvious talent.

I remember watching play Brian this on the Bernstein special on music in 1966 or 1967 and I was blown away by the beauty of it.

@blueticecho : I could do better than Mikey on that song even when the bland talent was in his prime.

Brian's singing ability in the '60s was incredible. It's a shame that all those drugs and cigarettes made his voice so gruff.

Al slid into the harmonies giving it yet another unique aspect. Mike, UH,
yeah I guess he contributed, if nothing else, to Brian having is breakdown.
All in the family, I guess. But Brian and the Wrecking Crew (Hal and Carol)
deserve much credit after Brian went for the 'Spector wall" after "Honda".
I met them several times early on. All of them exept one were very nice to
talk to. Especially Carl and Al.

I remember hearing him sing this on Leonard Bernstein's TV show
in either 66 or 67, watching with my parents. After Bernstein said
Brian Wilson is one of the greatest composer of the century, my dad
said, "I'm impressed" and became a true fan. This release proves the
theory that BW is/was the Beach Boys. Yes, they all contributed their
own, unique ways, Carl the angelic falsetto and sounded similar to Brian,
Dennis, a great composer also, AL- great blending voice.

@sfan1 I gave it a really close listen and it does sound a little like Carl, but at :19 you can hear that its Brian, at least in my opinion. :)
