  • im about to mod my xbox, just added led to nintendo n64 and dreamcast and everything went fine with my "high school basics" i remembered :P

    2 questions :/

1 : anything the mobo already has (3mm leds for this vid) if you add extra you don't ever need resistor?

    2 : what's ur ebay seller :)

  • @450greetz If you try to connect new LEDs directly to existing outputs (in parallel) then in theory you don't need resistors. However, doing so would be more tedious than just using your own resistors fed from a power cable instead. Plus there is a limit on the amount of power you can take from pre-existing devices

    as a general rule of thumb, i'd say use 470 - 560 Ohm for a 12V supply,

or 100 - 200 Ohm for 5V supply. Depending on how bright you want the LED to be.

  • @plasmadan1990 thanks alot, appreciate quick response

  • I don't sell on ebay myself, but if its just LEDs and resistors you're after, then just go for the cheapest ones you can find.

  • well that pretty much tells me everything i need to know haha... thanks.... :) so i was looking at the leds on the power button and it has a 3 prong thing haha i dont really know what that is called but..... do i need to get a led with 3 prongs or will just a 2 prong work? thanks dude again your alot of help

  • okay cool thanks man.... but im going to ask 2 more questions haha..... how did you get the middle buttion light blue... did you buy it like that? i cant find them and i dont know the name for them..... and the controller ports how did you get them like that.... did you buy them like that i dunno..... but thanks for your help...

  • Hi, No I did not buy the eject button light blue. I took it apart and swapped out the green/red 3mm Tri-color LEDs for some blue/red ones. You can find those on ebay.

If you just want the blue, without having a "warning" flash, such as the orriginal (red), then just go for some blue 3mm LEDs. They will not reqire any resistors; as the motherboard allready has them.

I beleive you can still buy the old XBOX eject light kits off ebay. But it would be cheeper to mod it yourself.

  • As for the controller ports, I was one of the first to do that mod. I decided to use 10mm LEDs rather than the standard 5mm. All I did was drill a nice fit hole over each port, then glue in some 10mm LEDs!

  • @plasmadan1990 you can also actually wire (2) 3mm leds to change the front ROL instead of buying tri color 2 anode leds. Either way works just trying to help.

  • hey if you dont mind me asking where did you get the leds from?

  • Ebay... I buy them in bulk really cheap, with resistors.

  • uhhhhhh how did you do that....ok im only goin into the 10th grade and i know nothing about hardware but i know alot about software and i jus wanna know how to do tht

  • Learn & get good at soldering. No software needed. The LEDs are connected to outputs already inside the XBOX. The very same can be done with PCs. You just need to know where on the motherboard to connect the cables. Be sure not to overload the outputs; use relays or transistor circuits to switch higher powered components.

It's just simple electronics. you can use neons or LEDs, but remember you will have a limited amount of power to work with. Unless you use external power supplies.

  • hey do you know how to install led lights on a 360??

  • how do i do the lan activity mod???

  • There is already an LED for the LAN activity on the back of the console. All you have to do is solder the cathode side of the LED to the pin on the motherboard. Then connect the anode through a 100 OHM resistor to the 5V line on the HDD power cable.

The LED will blink rapidly when connected & playing on XBOX LIVE.

The HDD activity is exactly the same method, by soldering the cathode side to a pin on the motherboard, or connecting it to a pin on the HDD IDE cable.

  • thx but ummm which is the ide 5v line?

    thankyou dude

  • I've added a link to my photbucket album with the details.

  • that looks awesome i just moded my xbox check out my video and tell me what you think
