saw humble pie 3x'x in philly back in the day,,they sure knew how to rock and put on a show,,always left blown away..im very fortunate to have grown up when music was music.
This my all time favorite blues tune of all time. I love the blues. I listen to this song and remember smokin' dope in Thailand and feeling every note. I smile and still get goose bumps every time I play this song. Absolutely amazing piece of work. I don't think this song could ever be duplicated by any of the greats today. This is a true one in a million recording. If you are not familiar with this song, get right and play it over and over and over...you'll see!
@PapaSanDoc Ever get into Blind Melon? Interesting if anyone growing up with all these great bands ever heard of them and would appreciate them as much as I do. I'm 32 and beleive the best music was recorded before I was even thought of, but some of "todays" music can hold as much feeling and heart and sole as some of the true greats!! Hope some of you old school buggers are able to wade through the yuck the predominates todays commercial "music" and find that MUSIC still exists!!!
Nobody except those baby boomers that smoked much dope, the bud now, that knows how to rock and roll, do it with soul from the soul can appreciate this. Not many people know about this old school. HOW SWEET IT IS!
Aaah, memories! Thanks for posting these tracks from Smokin', haven't heard them for 35 years. Great album, Marriott playing organ and harmonica as well. Great harp solo on this one.
If you like slow blues and acoustic stuff check their take on For Your Love (The Yardbirds song) - they changed it so much that it reminds me of Babe I'm Gonna Leave You. It's a cool Beat Club live footage.
Hi, xJayWalkerx. Haven't talked to you in awhile. When I started playing the For Your Love video all the time on my computer a year ago, my 13 year-old daughter said, "That sounds like the guy from LZ." I didn't think so at first, then I said, "You're right. It sounds like my favorite LZ song - Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You. I haven't heard that in years." She said, "I just downloaded that song when you let me buy Mothership. Want to hear it?" Blew me away! Glad both bands were talented.
One more GEM for the ages. Talk about good things in small packages. The BIGGEST VOICE EVER. RIP Stevie this world is diminished by your leaving us at way too young an age.
I couldn't put the song into words cause it left me speechless. Fritz there just said it for me ... You had to have suffered to really hear it. Beautiful.
on the dvd it is let out that Steve Stills was in the house (Hot and Nasty) and that cocaine was in all the boys heads. Put that together with Steve's breakup with Jennie and you have this gut wrenching diddie.
p.s. you wouldn't see Steve do a Geico(?) commercial
@tomitstube I know right! Humble pie were fantastic! Can somebody advise me on a few more such bands? Because sometimes by a stroke of luck I'm introduced to a band such as this one (or UFO's most recent album, the Visitor, or Sean Costello, both of which I'd recommend, especially the latter), and I just feel I've been missing out on the for so long.
This song is credited to Cecil Gant & R. Leveen. Gant was a blues singer who wrote it in 1944 and died in 1951 at only age 38. But when you listed to Gant's recording, the lyrics are completely different - so I'm unsure of the song's provenance. But kudos to the lads for crediting Gant the ay they did.
this track is off humble pie's (Smokin) album, and Framtpon wasn't on it, Clempson was on the album. Frampton last album was the live "Performance - Rockin the Fillmore". both were great guitarist, frampton could sing and clempson not, frampton had more jazz-bluesy solos, clempson bluesy-boogie solos. marriott was a great singer, rhythm guitarist and at times good lead, ridley awesome bass and singer.
Whoa, KILLER vocal!!! I have got to somehow get all of HPs cds. You just can't find them domestilcally. In response to fluffyusa comment yeah Frampton is a great singer and guitarist but Clem could sing and can sing really well his is more bluesy and lower ranged than Peters, between Greg's and Steves it was a good compliment to each.
Humble Pie is nothin' less than the bomb!!! They blending the blues with rock like few could. Marriott and Framton are GODS of ROCK and Humble Pie was where the GODS came together to make some of the best music ever recorded.
Stumbled across this accidently - I haven't heard it for decades. I'd forgotton how much I loved it. Brings back so many memories of seeing the band live. This so stands the test of time, it's incredible.
Clempson at his best - 'Lost Angeles', Colosseum Live, 1971. Even better than this. One of the best live albums ever......Clempson, Jon Hiseman, Chris Farlowe, Dick Hecstall-Smith, Mark Clarke, Dave Greenslade.
Ballad 101 And I wonder who was first, this or Zepp's 7 to 11. I love both, red house too. Curious why I Wonder is the outsider. It would be a miricle to witness the best rendition. Maybe this is it.
I like the feel of suppressed controlled megawattage and power this recording gives. They play carefully and quietly but you can tell the amps are turned way up. The loudness makes it presence felt even when its not loud, it's there barely contained but you can sense it, until it bursts out especially towards the end of the the big windup guitar solo. Yeah!
They must have had a terrific live show. Real musicians. One of my favorite blues numbers ever. Turn it up to capture it all.
@gorblimey61 Yep, those who attempted to do hard-rock after the mid 70s just did a sucky imitation. This is the real stuff. DAMN! Steve and Greg -- those guys knew how to do it!
He does anyone know where I can find a guitar tab for this?

Robert Plant used to watch Marriott during his Small Faces day... and learned quite well, don't you think?
Don't get me wrong, I love Plant too, but he's no Steve Marriott!
