The comments saying this is bold/sexy are funny. After years of Australian TV showing 'Uh oh Razzamataz', Skinny Milk, Big M bikini beach girls - not to mention 'The Box', 'Number 96' and the Paul Hogan show models, this is hardly risque.
@1977Melville Hi. Haven't attempted to find out as yet, a good chance the UK version may well be floating about. The UK version had the model bending down so that the pianist in the background got the full view of her backside, and promptly fainted in a dramatic but comical way.
@pauliejay Good point. But I don't thnk we can compare Neighbours with number 96 as they were at very different time slots and catered to a different audience.
yeah, i can see why you'd think that's funny. but over here in good ol' Australia, the only people who would support that comment would be very fucked-up individuals; usually in desperate need of medical assessment.
Most people over here have class (much like the lady in this ad) and would raise an eye brow at you before pointing at the corner where the very fucked-up individual is sitting and advise you to join him.
That was some typo. You missed two "k"s, forgot the "c" and somehow typed "g" twice. From "knickers" to "niggers" - how did you type that wrong? More like a freudian slip than a typo.
@pokemon169 yep, through out the 80's and 90's many of these Underwear commercials were cheeky. I don't know if it was an Aussie thing. Type 'holeproof antz pantz' and see just how cheeky it got. Now thinking about, nearly all the cheeky ads were Holeproof ads. I guess we thought we were hot stuff.
IMHO it's the one factor that sets ours apart from the others. well, probably not the only one but certainly the BIG one. we love to love at ourselves. (the pianist IS the australian psyche) we're going for cringe factor here, and we absolutely love it!
@gezzanater I remember this ad in its first run - it was very popular and much discussed. The bare feet were mentioned a few times too. Why bare feet: just something else that is funny/noticeable/intruiging. The whole purpose of an ad: to be noticed.
thanks for this cool video! my names Paige, kinda feelin bored if any1 wants to join me on cam or wana chat i will be signed on at __ PLAY-CAM...dot...COM __ my user ID there is Paige_ehmysnsyb chat soon xx its FR33 to j0in! mwah
i was shocked when i saw this commercial for the first time when i was..i thought..wow! where gonna see a naked bum on television..lol...but all my anticipation and excitement was cut short...when she pulled up her dress and actually was wearig knickers..lmao!
I was about 17 and I must admit, I always imagined Supergirl in my comic collection wore this style of knickers. It just has "the choice of superheroines" written all over it.
its a bit hard to see but is that Toti Goldsmith? the one that was in the 80's group Chantoozies, i think she did some acting on Sons & Daughters or something too? shes now one of those celebrities who's famous for being a celebrity ;) was on that ch9 prank show a few weeks back.
Yes some of the stuff that passes as "lingerie" these days looks more like Captain Jack Sparrows eye patch. I mean you can design sexy lingerie for a nice shaped woman with a bit of fabric still included that clings in all the right places. The one in this add shows that.
as a teenage boy in 85 this one earned my vote for best advertisement. Basically due to the fact a) I love a shapely woman b) the way she says "knickers" is quite sexy and c) the skirt raising scene was hot. She looks great. Definately kept me motivated as i studied away my year.
Was there a version where the pianist fell off his seat?

Dunno her real name though.

These ads were nothing shocking back then at all. They were understood for what they were. Harmless
No way we would accept this now.
Shouldn't we become LESS conservative as time goes on?
