  • So much for the civility and lack of insults as EVERYONE ELSE HERE said xD

  • "Not a lot of person cuts or putdowns."

    WELCOME TO THE FUTURE.

  • It was all true until he mentioned the no swearing and restraint and all that jazz. People on the internet have no identity or face. It's an anonymous mask so you can be more free and willing to act like an ass that you might not be able to do at a bar talking about those FUCKING Raiders. :p

  • 0:34 "Internet enthusiast" Pleased to meet you..I'm internet slave.

  • i was born this year

  • There were trolls. At that time I had been trolling BBSs for a couple of years. You could log in as the name From on a "The Major BBS" and impersonate people in the chat. A couple years later I moved on to flooding IRC channels.

  • @PoweredButchZ You're still a fag.

  • "Interesting kind of restraint [...] not a lot of cursing or swearing"

    And then 4chan happened.

  • GO TO HELL YOU SUCK IM BETTER THAN U. *INSULT*

  • "there's not a lot of swearing, or [...] put downs"

    lol

  • Man! I love Internet. A worldwide computer switchboard!

  • wow i hope this internet thing makes it.

  • not a lot of go to hell........wtf internet is this

  • raiders pause choke........he knew the raiders would suck when this video made youtube

  • talk to the world about sex

    LOL

  • Jocks where using the internet in 1993?

  • wow, the early internet was so gay lol

  • Not a lot of putdowns? Definitely before YouTube.

  • thank for the video very help full

  • GO TO HELL!!!!!!

  • WTC photo in the background on the computer desktop, very sad

  • GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL GO TO HELL

  • I remember the BBS, infact we were through CRS Online, but in Kitchener. Took a full day to download the Doom demo from iD software (3mb file).

  • This guy must hate the internet now....

  • Internet is for porn.

  • How can i use this internet? Its New To Me!

  • Comment removed

  • INTERNET.... blah, blah, blah... INTERNET!

  • The guy is so incredibly naive, lol.

  • I bet a lot more housework and meals were done in these pre-facebook days.

  • The WTC is on the desktop at 1:03

  • Not a lot of putdowns, swearing, etc? The internet was very different at the start.

  • Not a lot of cursing, swearing, screens full of go to hell...

    And then anonymous was born...

  • whats that sound at 1:17 why does it make that beep sound?

  • @911sanitarium that's dail-up, what are you two years old?

  • @venturae no im 18 and i remember this sound but i am to young to remember what it was from

  • @911sanitarium

    lol

if you are 18, you should know what dail up is. Dail up was still used in the early 00s

  • @DarthScorpio11 Oh god dont remind me! My grandma was STILL on dial up until recently lmao! it didnt seem that slow when I was little though xD

  • @Nintendude712

oh even as a 9 year old dail up seemed to take forever. I remember spending over an hour loading the trailer for Star Wars - The Phantom Menace back in 1999

  • @911sanitarium

Is this trolling or a real question? I guess you weren't around on the internet 15 years ago or so for the modem era

  • @maxell1221 i was 3 15 years ago.....

  • "its intersesting, because one would think if you're anonymous you'd do anything you want... but people in a group have their own sense of community and what we can do..."

This, and the corresponding parts, are sad because there was so much optimism about what the internet could be and how it could show the best of people... I still love it (and couldn't live without it!), but it certainly hasn't lived up to the high ideals and hopes of what the founders thought we could do with anonymity.

  • The old school keyboards at 0:44.

  • the fuck is the internet?!?

  • it will never catch on.

  • haha CBC got beat by CBC thumbs up if you know what i mean

  • internet enthusiast = porn addict :D

  • Ah, the good old days when "Internet" wasn't full of racist, anti-Semitic, weirdo porn, and "Obama's gonna put all white people in concentration camps" websites.

  • Comment removed

  • ....then they made computers so easy to use that any idiot can operate one....and that's why we see so much stupidity online now...

  • Of course there weren't as many people on the internet as there are now, and computers in those days were considerably more cost prohibitive to a lot of people, so those that owned computers were a bit more mature and didn't feel the need to curse at others.

  • the cbc can go to hell :)

  • lol we had to watch this in grade 10 history class back in 1998.

  • Thanks, Al Gore.

  • no trolls back in the day ...

  • go to hell everyone

  • @chrisbeck77 haha

  • This guy is probably saying "Well I'll be damned. I guess anonymous people are assholes after all."

  • Damn I always see the comments about people feeling old when they watch this stuff and I tell myself I'm not old, but.... I feel old. I'm 24 and I remember going online in the '90s and being really confused about what 'LOL' was, being excited about getting email newsletters from websites, all in plain text, and oh yes, that beautiful dial-up tune that is in my head forever. But I loved all that stuff.

  • @igotthefarts1 i remember them day my parent got piss at me when i stay on the internet to long they had big phone bill and internet bills. im 24 to. XD

  • @igotthefarts1 i myself am also 24 i remember all those things you just said, nostalgia is a wonderful thing when we were on the internet with dial up and our phone would ring and instinctively we would answer it and boot us off the internet, now? we have phones that go on the internet or you can call someone on your phone while being on the internet (all on the phone of course), god what happened to the good old days? its just not the same anymore

  • So what he's saying is, trolls weren't invented back in 1993. xD

  • And then came 4Chan.

  • wtf it this shit? Internet? sounds gay

  • Wow, newsgroups. Nowadays, my ISP (MTS - in Manitoba, Canada) doesn't even have a news server, does yours? Does anyone still use newsgroups? Those were heady days!

  • @mfitze Blame government. The ISPs were pressured by the Attorney General to drop all newsgroups, because he claimed their "only" purpose was to spread child porn

    .

  • Wow.. he was so optimistic - saying how the 'group' doesn't behave how you would expect anonymous people to (saying whatever you want, swearing, 'put downs')... it sure didn't last haha. Read any analysis of behavior on the internet today and it is almost the exact opposite of what he is saying! In less than 20 years we have totally demolished the young, hopeful vision of what the internet could be lol. Ah well, I love it anyway :p

  • cool idea, too bad it never caught on

  • Norway got "The Internet" in 1994, I think my family got it in 1999, along with a windows 98, a Volvo V70 and my dads horrible 90's glasses

  • long live the cbc!

  • at the end i thought of /b/

  • K WHAT THE HELL IS THE INTERNET!?

    lol

  • So... Who wants to have a discussion about football today?

  • "If you're anonymous, you do anything you want"

    We are Anonymous.

  • This "internet" thing will never catch on...

  • 1:49 my ass

  • I get the feeling he's sold his computer since then. Also, it's ironic, because this video's on YouTube, and social networking sites have basically ruined the internet with crass commercialism. :3

  • It's so funny to see all the discussion contained to just basic forum discussion... no idea of just how wide its multimedia powers could go.

  • haha now you look to the begin of internet on internet :D

  • Looks more like 1983

  • i recall the days of BBS

  • he was asking for it

  • @1:49 hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha!

  • No cursing or saying go to hell online?

  • Internet... what a stupid idea. why ruin your adding machine with this crap?

  • Not a lot of cursing... swearing... put downs... screens full of Go to Hell...

  • @jakeharvey No shit?

  • @jakeharvey I don't know what version of 1993 you lived-n, but I remember flamewars going back to the 80s

    .

And yes with cursing, swearing, insults, and everything you see now

    .

  • @jakeharvey lol so true

  • @jakeharvey this guy should have watched the comments with automatic updates on rebecca blacks video

  • @jakeharvey not everyone is nice so dont cry about it

  • @jakeharvey that's what they said about twitter, when it was mostly ran by businessmen and convention groups... then kids took over and switched that baby up real quick.

  • Lol restraint. That didn't last long.

  • GO TO HELL!!!!!

  • You need a computer and a... phone?

  • @mittkontotilltuben I don't know exactly how it works but I remember connecting to the internet through the phone line when I was a kid. We couldn't use the phone and internet at the same time, haha this sounds really weird nowadays.

  • @Skblole Sure, but then you connected through the phone line using a modem, right? Perhaps one could argue that a modem is technically a kind of phone, but the statement "all you need is computer and a phone" must have caused more confusion about the internet rather than helping anyone. I mean, of course you could pick up the phone to call the computer store and order a modem :-)

  • @mittkontotilltuben Haha, alright I hear ya ;)

  • @Skblole yea back then your parent get piss at you if you on the internet to long

  • *** Lost Carrier ***

  • alt.fan.rush-limbaugh ... AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

    Now: 4chan.

  • Sorry I just had to :)

  • "Not a lot of cursing or swearing, or put-downs, or screen-fulls of 'go to hell'' Look at what they've done to our internets.

  • dial up days ^^

  • its amazing that keyboards and screens look the same today as they did then.

  • /b/ anyone?

  • @1:39 alt rush limbaugh! I guess they hadn't figured out he'd still be an asshole in the future.

  • hello, this discussion about the internet is lacking in cats.

  • Yikes, The Power of Freedom of Speech eh!

  • @radiofreak56 This may be why 10 year olds shouldn't go on YouTube.

  • The old Internet, very hardcore ;D

  • Kinda crazy. I was 9 years old back then. So crazy how far the internet has come. It's like a totally different world now. Its changed so much.

  • @arise212 It really hasnt changed much. When you think about it they dont look much different or work much different this was only 17 year back though.

  • now internet is all about justin bieber lol

  • only if they could see wat the internet is like today :D

  • "Not a lot of cursing or swearing, or put-downs, or screen-fulls of 'go to hell'''

  • If you want to see the vintage Peter Mansbridge introduce this segment, go to the CBC archives. There's no "the" before Internet, and no messing with the Mansbridge.

  • Yeah 1993, lots of restraint.. thats cause no one aside of universities and some few select people were on the internet at that time.

  • not a lot of cursing????????????

    I guess WTF doesn't count...LOL

  • cool. when does this come out?

  • 2:11 "One would think, If you're Anonymous you'd do anything you want." Very prophetic.

  • @generation1313 anonymous, lol, very prophetic

  • "Help Save The World" If Hyperinflation happens, famine could result from an economic collapse. Oh, you might also want to stop the Population Reduction and Chemtrail agenda in the United States, before they kill us all! (The)(Tea)(Party)(Truther)(Dot)(Com)
