Yeah, everything that is on the radio do suck today, especially hip hop. I listen to old school 90's hip hop and underground hip hop only, but the producers do have a big part in this bad music today. Also, as long as the consumer are supporting this bullshit today, we aren't going to get rid of it.
"Artists" and producers don't care anymore. As long as the average dumb ass can dance to it they don't care. Its ridiculous how talent is no longer required to be famous. Some of the people on YT are the ones who deserve exposure( well the ones who don't spam the comment section with "come to my channel"). They sing the songs way better than the artists. Music today = fail. Rap today is the worst. yuck. lol phil specter.
There's a video on YouTube with Kanye going to an actual Orchestra and users it on one of his songs from Late Registration, should definitely check that out and it's crazy how creative he is and his ear of different genre's of music. He's produced for pretty much every great hip hop artist like Common, Talib Kweli, Jay-Z, so Kanye got that experience and love for music. Other producers I respect are the legendary DJ Premier, Eminem even has been banging beats for a while, Madlib, Dr. Dre.
Producers today rely too much on Fruity Loops and beat making systems, that's OK if your just starting but take it back to the basics. An actual studio with your own drum machine, piano, and people playing instruments. That's why we hear these generic beats constantly. I know you said Kanye is hit or miss and I'll even admit, sometimes his beats are like huh? but Kanye is one of my favorite new producers because he actually uses orchestral sounds in his music and mixing different samples.
Very true about the description! No more instruments except maybe a piano!!
