@katma26 Greg was a great vocalist, but my fav of all time was Greg Walker (although he took quite a different approach). I'll tell you what, NOBODY plays like Greg does. Tom Coster and Chester Thompson were good... But Greg's work on the keys were a vital part of the driving force for the early Santana bands.
It's strange to know when I was listening to my Santana records back in my teens Rollie was doing the singing. His voice is perfect for their style. Which I love by the way.
Like Gregg's voice a lot- don't think he ever should have left Santana, personally. I think he would have rolled with the changes just fine, and given the discography a little more unity, vocally. Nice vid!
Wow that was really awesome when Adrian moved off the timbales to let his dad on (Jose "Chepito" Areas), at the point all the original members were playing on stage minus Dave Brown on bass who passed in 2000.
What a memorial night!!! I was there as a dancer with my group, Samba do Coracao, opening the night...but this was definitely the hightlight of the entire evening!!!
AMAZING! There's a reunion I for one never thought would happen!! Greg and Carlos on the same stage together again! I guess time can heal all! Greg looks and sounds fantastic!I've sure missed him to bits! I LMAO when Carlos went back there to get after the drummer- so haw many was it-3 different ones?:) Thanks for sharing this bit of Rock n Roll history, Dubai37! Wonder if they'll be sharing the stage again in the future? That'd be awesome!..now,if they could get Neal Schon up there with them...
The last one was Jose "Chepito" Areas who played timbales in the original band and this song. I couldn't tell whether Michael Shrieve was playing the drum kit.
Man, this is an incredible reunion. The original long version back in 71 when Abraxis came out. I'll see Gregg at the free Friday night summer concert series this July at the
Santa Cruz Beach and Boardwalk. Should be a great performance. Greg has had an amazing career from Santana to early Journey to his own band. Long live the San Francisco Bay Area musicians that defined the world stage with artistry and passion.
If this is the original or most of the original members of Santana then I saw all of these guys in concert at the Trac Arena in Pasco last night! The music was great, though Santana wasn't there! Don't ask why, I heard their band broke up, but I'm not sure what really went down!
Santana, Chepito, Gregg Rollie & Michael Shrive together again!

Phew!
That was one busy stage.
To be honest, it was very disorientating.
Carlos and Gregg are natural partners for the early music, but Chester Thompson tends to push Carlito into other areas he obviously enjoys going to.
Wonderful stuff.
