  • It is Bleaker Street in the song. The late, lamented radio show, on which Cindy's Cryin' was often featured, was called Beaker Street.

  • I'm pretty sure it is "Bleaker Street", not Beaker

  • Very happy this wonderful version is here and so sorry about Katie no longer being with us. Beautiful tune which so reminds me of Beaker Street!!!

  • Tonight, I listened to the last program of Beaker Street as Clyde Clifford signed off of the Point, 94.1. I missed Barbara Raney's performance due to an inopportune telephone call, but wanted to hear the song again. Thanks again for keeping this great song on Youtube.

  • or should i say its on cd

  • i have the origional copy igot from a friend of mines record shop

  • Great to see this video and song still on Youtube. For those who remember Beaker Street on KAAY, and its later reincarnation on the Point 94.1, the new management of 94.1 has canceled Beaker Street, last show on Sunday February 6, 2011. Clyde Clifford has reportedly been talking to other stations, but at this point the only news is that Beaker Street ends in less than a month. No doubt Cindy's Cryin will be heard a few more times -- streaming on the web is almost as good as the old AM.

  • Wow....You guys just took me back 40 years. And what a GREAT JOB! I am sorry to read that Katie is gone, she did an amazing job singing this, it was perfect (and you guys were pretty good too :). I too used to listen to Beeker Street/Theater back in the day. You really touched me with this, Thanks so Much!!!!!

  • WOW! Who says time travel is impossible?? I just flew back 40 years! Cruising 9th street on Saturday nights in Trenton, Mo, trying to stay out of trouble til Beaker Theater comes on... THANKS, Well done!

  • It was also done by The Chad Mitchell Trio

  • I used to listen to KAAY's "Beaker Street" and would call in & request Deepwater Reunion's version of this song! Thanks for posting this video.

  • It's great hearing this song after all of these years. I remember hearing it on KAAY late night in the Winter 0f 1970. I was in Jefferson City, MO. I would be cruising in my Mustang. Deep Water Reunion did the song.

  • NICE! - CGC

  • I can't remember who the artists were but the the background that Clyde Clifford used was called "Cannibis Sativa" and was performed on a Moog Synthesizer. I was able to download the music from Soul Search and play it now and then to get that old feeling. The reason Clyde used a background in because he did the show in the transmitter tower and there was a constant buzz from the electronics and needed to be masked by this weird music.

  • The Legend of the USS Titanic is by Jamie Brocket and is here on Youtube. I recently bought the album on Ebay and it is fantastic to hear it again. It sure brings back memories of staying up late to listen to Beaker Street in the early seventies. If you go to the Beaker Street website you can download many hours of the show including Clyde Cliffords last night on KAAY.

  • Hey I went there too and was glad to find it

  • Back in '71, I was eleven years old. I'd listen to Beaker Street & Beaker Theater till 2 am. Used to be so fuckin' tired at school. Clyde's still around ..... Beaker Street can still be heard today; It airs every Sunday night from 7 p.m. until midnight Central Time, The Point 94.1 FM KKPT. It is also streamed live via the internet, from the Beaker street homepage. God bless him.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU! I so remember the Friday nites after droppin off the dates we would climb in the 63 Galaxie roll up a big one and take off down the road! HWY 18 in northern Iowa listening to Beaker Street and then Beaker Theater, Clide Clifford, Jack Diamond, I know there were others. My best friend I did this with is passed on many years ago but the memories are forever, thank you again and PEACE MAN!

  • I luved it I would luv a copy. Thank you for this peice of time

  • ahhhh Dave Katie and Ben...When i found this It brought back the memories i have from the 60"s before fm and I waited for the sun 2 go down every night to listen to beaker street and beaker theater. thank you dehawk fan for a song ive searched for for 30 years and everyone knew it but thats as close as i ever got. • grim1138, I'd like to have a copy. I listened to KAAY from central Illinois in the late 60's and early 70's. Some of the best programming available. Now and then.

  • magusdee, you are absolutely right, Clyde Clifford is an icon. here in little rock, home of the old K double AY, Clyde is still on the air here, now at 94.1 fm, the point every sunday night, still playing the same stuff. and yes that is Barbra Rainey singing with Bobby J Hayes on the 12-string. these folks are doing a great cover, but I do have an mp3 of the original if anyone is interested.

  • Beaker Street on "The Mighty 1090" was, to we culturally isolated folk in SE KS, a rite, a ritual, a gift, an epiphany. Clyde Clifford was God. This is the song I remember best; yes, Deepwater Reunion (with Barbra Rainey, I think; the LP sold for $35 lately)) = KAAY version. More staples: Jamie Brackett's Legend of USS Titanic; It's a Beautiful Day's White Bird; King Crimson's In the Court of the Crimson King LP; Uriah Heep's July Morning, Steeleye Span's Allison Gross, and many more cool ones.

  • Make that Jamie BROCKETT and Barbra RANEY. So excited to have found this version--which is terrific, and thanks for it--my spelling abilities left me. Also, the Deepwater Reunion LP which brought $35 was in VG+ condition; found a couple others for sale on the internet, in better shape: $150 and $200, respectively, for those.

  • i was in nw missouri listenin to kaay in the 60's ahhh when life was music and music was life, and to me it is still. impressioned by 1090 and i used to pick it up in the car at nightd when everyone cruised and at a place called radio hill, where stations came in clearest was the partiers that also appreciated kaay. youd here it comin from 10-50 cars at once and some with reverbs in the trunks,,,,,ah yes those were the dayz,

  • oslo...you're looking for 'The Legend of the USS Titanic' by Jaime Brockett. Bound to be on eBay somewhere, sometime. Keep combin' the local used record stores.

I didn't get 'converted' until late '72...Deejay's name was John Diamond, though. (same dude with different name?) My old man couldn't handle 'that damned spook music' in the background...all the more reason to tune in...like Jimi said, I "never heard surf music again".

Stand by with a recorder ready, the only solution I have.

  • This is great! I've been trying for years to find this song, all I could remember is the Beaker Street hook. I used to listen to KAAY all the time in Fargo ND many years ago. The other song I remember has "fare the well titanic fade away" which I would love to hear again. Any idea where a guy could download these?

  • Search for Legend of the USS Titanic here on You Tube....Someone named "toyboytwo" just posted it Nov 3rd....Good quality!

  • Hi olsonsk, likewise for me on KAAY although I listened in from northern Kansas. '71-72 is the right time period for me. Usually on late night on the 'Clyde Clifford' show which ran from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. The group that did it was the Deepwater Reunion. Sure brings the memories for me too.

  • @olsonsk Heh, discovered BS in fargo also, back in November of 1971.They were playing the hobbit for beaker theatre

  • The version they played on Beaker Street was by Deep Water Reunion. The original was written and recorded by Tom Paxton. Beaker Street was broadcast on KAAY with 50,000 watts and was heard all over North America and as far south as South America. BTW Clyde Clifford is doing Beaker St. again, it is broadcast locally (Little Rock)on "The Point" 94.1 FM,yes it's webcast, Sun nights from 7 to midnight CST. He still plays the goodies like Legend of Titanic, DOA, King Crimson, Alice's Restaurant, etc.

  • I used to listen to Beaker street too from La. I actually have a very rough cassette recording I made of a few moments of Beaker street in my collection. You can make out audibly it referring to News Years Day 1972, complete with Clyde Clifford and those eery sounds we used to enjoy in the background.

  • those eirie sounds were the song of the humpback whale

    peace

  • Great rendition. This brings back some memories. I listened to KAAY from Chicago.

  • Some of those "special effects were taken straight from;

"Fifty Foot Hose- Cauldron" LP ( Mercury -LIMELIGHT LS 86062 )

Others were out takes from "Rotary Connection"

  • I also listened to Beaker Street instead of going to sleep. Another one sleepy in school from staying up so late. This is one of my fondest memories, Beaker Street and Cindy's Cryin. On KAAY, does any else remember they wanted Arkansaw to annex Texas and turn it into a litter box?

  • Just wondering, when exactly in 72,did beaker street end?

  • Clyde Clifford left Beaker Street in 1974, but the show continued on KAAY until 1977.

  • Thanks for the kind words Barbara...Your band's version of this song so many years ago inspired a number of people...thanks for all the comments everyone.

  • your welcome for the comments. you might pass on my address to mapw51 who asked for help in locating the original version. i'm not trying to hawk my wares, but they did ask for help.

    namaste'

    barbara

  • Will do Barbara....Hey go ahead and "hawk", Hell I would :-)

  • @bjraney I still have the album you guys put out with this song on it. I was 14; got your MN address from C. Cifford, "Beaker Street" & ordered the album for my best friend for Christmas. The album was broken in the mail. You made it possible for my best friend & I to pick up another one while you were home for Holidays; my dad brought us over to get it & you gave me one for myself. Probably my favorite Christmas memory, ever. Thanks for your kindness and for making that possible.

  • oh yeah its only sunday night

  • beakerstreet is still on from 7pm to midnight Clyde Clifford is still the DJ you can find him on kkpt fm 94.1 Little Rock Ark.live on the intenet.

  • I am one of the "Midwesterners" who have very fond memories of Beaker Street. I still live in the town in Iowa, where we all listened to KAAY every and I do mean every night. I would like to find an original version of this song by Deep Water Revival. Can anyone help me with this???

  • you guys were always great together

  • always love the way you played together

  • love to book cases

  • When I was in HS (68-72), I used to listen to Beaker Street on KAAY on a tiny AM radio glued to my ear very late at night when my parents would go to bed. This was remarkable because I lived in Orange, Texas (Gulf Coast)at the time. This was the one song that I listened for every night. Thanks for the memories!!!!

  • This is so cool. Same, but pre high school 68-72. But we picked up KAAY in Hattiesburg MS. All the space sounds behind the intros...mixed with static, we were glued! Thanks.

  • LOL...I do remember those special effects sounds when Clyde Clifford would give the intros to the music. Lots of really good memories...but a little sleepy during the school hours...LOL

  • I'm very sorry for the reason for posting this, but thankful to hear it. The music is faithful to the original and Katie's voice is lovely.

Thanks also for the wonderful comments about Deepwater and Beaker Street. It was a wonderful time in my life and the group was always honored that it got so much airplay. Clyde still has a radio show and still gets requests for Cindy.

    Namaste'

    Barbara Raney (Deepwater Reunion)

  • Hey girl, long time no see, how the heck are ya doin.

  • I'm doing great. You have me at a disadvantage,I can't figure out who you are by dennis83838. Give me more detail and I'll do the same for you..I love to hear from old friends. The internet is an amazing place.

  • I left you a message on your YouTube space, there is a picture on mine, if you saw it and it didnt seem familar, well, it HAS been a lot of years hun.

  • DaHawkFan,

Thank you for posting this wonderful recording, performed by people who obviously enjoyed and appreciated the music. This was a favorite song during my Beaker Street years, and I have been drawn to repeatedly play this video since discovering it a month ago -- it brings back many fond memories of times long gone. My condolences on your loss.

  • This video was posted in memory of Katie who left us a few months back. She was a wonderful person with an amazing voice. She is missed.

  • Tom Paxton originally wrote this song and Deepwater Reunion covered it which was played alot on Beaker Street . There are a number of us (albeit somewhat older) in the midwest that have fond, fond memories of KAAY and Clyde Clifford.

  • yes that does bring back memorys

I use to listen to Beaker Street

    all the time.

are you the ones who did the song origanaly?

you do sound like how I rember it

  • Thank you so much for posting these videos. It is great to see Aunt Katie at her best! Luke in CO

  • "I Love My Sweet Aunt Katie"

  • Wow. Talk about bringing back memories of the late great KAAY Radio and Beaker Street. Great performance of Cindy's Cryin'. Thanks!
