He's totally thinking, "He wants you."

  • Wasn't Charlotte supposed to be pregnant at this point?

  • @FineDoneTakeHim yeah they had a two year relationship... I think they're a perfect couple, wish they had actually married in real life.

  • I dont get the feeling the cousin likes her but as he stated when they first met he has heard a lot of her.... From who? Obviously and yet he may find it amuzing that Darcy's finally fond of someone

  • 5:55 Mr Collins! xD

  • 7:00 awkward... Jajajajjaja

  • I simply love how everyone is adapting the speech patterns of the movie in the comments. I find it very amusing.

  • This was far superior to the later film version, Keira Knightley and all. The casting was perfection - notably Mr Collins, Mr Bennett, Lady Catherine and Elizabeth Bennett. Nice to see Dawn from The Office as well.

  • Is it just me? or does Mr.Darcy's cousin Fitzwilliam likes lizzy?

  • @evybeth92 The book says that Colonel Fitzwilliam was very much enjoying Mrs. Collinse's friend's company. (Not these exact words were used in the book but this is what it means). But Colonel Fitzwilliam never wanted to marry Lizzy because she had no money and an earl's second son could not afford to merry a poor woman at that time.

  • I love how terrified everyone is when Lizzy is talking to Lady Catherine :L

  • Mr. Collins will never cease to creep me out.

  • The problem I'm having with jennifer Ehle as Lizzy is that she just doesn't look like 20 in my opinion. But actually she was 26 when filming, in my opinion she looks older... also wiki says she had a short relationship with Colin Firth??????? WHOAT?

  • Poor Darcy... his awkwardness at small talk is painful. Yet so endearing.

  • 64 windows in all... oh my.. 64!

  • I actually believe Judi Dench makes the perfect Lady Catherine, and I couldn't imagine a better pair to play Mr. and Mrs. Bennett than Donald Sutherland and Brenda Blethyn. They are just so amazing...I feel that some of the characters in this version are lacking something. That is why I prefer the 2005 version.

  • Its so funny how lizzy teases Mr Darcy with her words lol. "His good opinion once lost is lost forever" Darcy turns around lmao.

  • i feel bad for charlotte. She is clearly in a loveless marriage with a joke for a husband.

  • Mr Collins' run at 5.38 is HILARIOUS!!!

  • BTW, I'm kind of surprised that Lady C never learned to play the piano. Didn't all rich young ladies learn back then? I mean, what else was there to do? :-)

Agree with those who think Col. Fitzwilliam is hot. Whew!!!!

  • I am not sure I like this adaptation... I find the refinement and character choice of the 1980 version far better

  • Lady Catherine is hilarious in so many ways: the intimidating strings that always accompany her; the way she sits on a 'throne' while talking to her 'subjects'; her slow, imperious way of talking, and best of all, the look on her face when Lizzie defies her! XD

I also love the chance meeting between Lizzie and Darcy in the forest :-)

  • "Can you tell me why Mr. Darcy keeps staring at me?" well, i wonder why...

  • I think colonel fitzwilliam is quite hot in this version:D

  • Is Mr.Collins the father of Nathan and Luke (not sure if I have the name right) in One Tree Hill?

  • @Saymwen No

  • @Saymwen and it's Lucas:)

  • @LorW8483 my bad

  • Colonel Fitzwilliam is aweeeeeeeeeeeesome :D <3 And so is his cousin ;)

  • This is my favorite scene in the entire movie! The music playing in the background when they are walking to Lady Catherine's house is perfect. The part that really cracks me up is the "WTF???" look on Mr Collins' face when Lizzy is talking to Lady Catherine about her younger sisters. Sir William's blubbering is hilarious too.

  • Am I the only one that gets chills at 2:02 when I see the front of the house and hear Lady Catherine's entrance music LOL

  • @ajlovescent LOL No, so do I! The "Lady Catherine" music is just perfect!!!

  • @harrietcow :)

  • 2005's Lady Catherine is the best of all. The perfect bitchy and presumptuous woman!

  • Oh hoho Mr Darcy i see you lookin at Lizzy :P!!!

  • "Lady Catherine said she, you have given me a treasure..(*she laughs*) YES......(*evil eyes at lizzy*)......... Yesss!

  • I kind of wish that Lizzy would fall or something and then Darcy would ride up to her and save her and they would fall in love. Although it should happen around Pemberly.

  • @sunflowergirl611 I think he does. I mean he says "I am glad to make your acquintance AT LAST." This means that Darcy HAS talked about Lizzy. And seeing that he knows that Elizabeth plays and sings it shows that Darcy has talked A LOT about her. It makes me fall in love with Darcy more and more.

  • I love the part when Lizzy is walking in the forest and Darcy rides there too, and he tries to go away but he can't because he has to look at her once more. I melt every time I see this part. 8:46-8:54

  • awww i want a Mr Darcy

  • I cant stop looking at darcy as he looks at lizzy as she looks to his cousin. Its all VERY intriging

  • Visiting Lady Catherine would be my idea of hell! I think I would just sit there with a deer caught in headlights expression. Raised eyebrows, unblinking eyes. I would the weirdest looking extra there.

  • Love Colonel Fitzwilliam, he's just so NICE :3

  • The casting of Lady Catherine is the one and only time an actor has outdone the same role played by the fabulous grande dame, Judy Dench. The actress playing the role of Elizabeth's mother outgunned the recent movie version as well. Overall, this series was far more true to Austin's immortal dialogue, and by doing so, created a superior result.

  • @GhostOnTheWind , I agree with you, particularly with what you are saying about the actresses who play Lady Catherine and Mrs. Bennett. They crack me up. I also think this movie is exceptionally well-cast. I love the girl who plays Lizzie, wish I saw her in more movies :)

  • @GhostOnTheWind Plus, this whole thing is like six hours long, while the more recent movie is only a little over two hours long. I greatly enjoyed both versions, but this has definitely got to be my absolute favorite.

  • Does anyone else find the music starting at 1:56 is perfect to introduce Lady Catherine? Especially when the camera pans over to her. Props to the person who thought of it.

  • @4:10 Lady Catherine's response to Lizzie's justification (ridiculous at the time) of all the sisters being "out" at once is priceless. I love this Lady Catherine. She makes me laugh sometimes.

  • At 6:22, I love the way Mr. Collins speaks to Mr. Darcy but this one doesn't care and stares at Lizzie.

  • lady catherine looks like a Vogon out of hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, the 2005 film... no?

  • Lol, I love Mr. Collins being all: 'make haste!' and then Maria actually takes him seriously and starts running while Charlotte and Lizzie just walks

  • its almost stalker-ish, the way he stares at her :/

  • Mr Collins + Charlotte = loveless marriage.

  • I love the characters in this movie/book. Mr. Collins cracks me up; he's such a brown-noser. The way lady Catherine talks to everyone is hilarious. I think Lizzie has some great dialogue, too, especially when she refuses both marriage proposals. This is one of my favorite movies.

  • Hahahahah i love how Lady Catherine expression changes at 5 08 from smiling to aggressive lol xD

  • Lady Catherine is like one of the ghosts of Christmas Past from the Muppets!

  • Collin Firth has an identical twin!!!

  • I always wondered why Lady Catherine was seen as less obnoxious by the author then Elizabeths mother. They're both pretty bad but I think Lady Catherines character is worse. However she is wealthier and so somehow less to blame.

I mean the name of the novel is 'pride and prejudice'. I never liked that.

  • @elenore88 Where in the book did Austen portray Lady Catherine as less obnoxious than Mrs. Bennett???

  • @rasta13820 it's in the inference. Lady Catherine wasn't portrayed as less obnoxious then Elizabeths mother but 'seen' as such. Read the ending and Darcys attitude.

  • @elenore88 Perhaps the inference is yours & not the author's. Lady C was certainly a legend in her own mind (I would have been a true proficient...) who meddled in the affairs of others (shelves in the closet, such happy thoughts) & was shown to be pompous & shallow. D was offended at her rudeness in offering L the use of the piano to practice. D realized in the end that she was just as ridiculous & obnoxious as Lizzy's mom. If he didn't see this he could not have married her.

  • @elenore88 "Lady Catherine was extremely indignant on the marriage of her nephew; and as she gave way to all the genuine frankness of her character in her reply to the letter which announced its arrangement, she sent him language so very abusive, especially of Elizabeth, that for some time all intercourse was at an end." This comment by Austen seems to imply that Lady C was more obnoxious than Mrs. B.

  • @rasta13820 read ALL of it. the inference is that elizabeths mother is coarser and thus inferior, even if Lady Catherines character was even more obnoxious.

  • @elenore88 OK - I finally got your point; thanks for the insight.

  • Lizzy's exceptionally unpleasant for me at 1.53. I wonder how long into the marriage Darcy will see her mean streak?

  • Walking is a very benificial exercise. Very true, i love a walk in the countryside whenever i can.

  • "Can you tell why Mr. Darcy keeps staring at me?"... Really? You really don't know? Come on, Lizzie! Its so obvious! lol

  • Isnt Lizzie beautiful? :)

  • @dancingdewdrop and the actress is also growing old beautifully. she has it, probably, in her spirit to be beautiful

  • @billegeto very true :)) real women !

  • @dancingdewdrop and the actress is also growing old beautifully. she has it, probably, in her spirit to be beautiful

  • @dancingdewdrop She is Indeed :D She looks very beautiful and very decent *-*

  • @freeofbags Jane Austen was not yet "two and forty" when she died in 1817. I hope this answers your question.

  • @freeofbags With young sisters eligible for marriage Eliza didn't want to admit her age. At this time the average life span for woman was about 40& many women died young giving birth. This is why marriage occurred with teenaged girls. Being 20, Eliza was not the young, giggling girl depicted elsewhere but a mature women who had reached half her expected lifespan. Many viewers have commented that this Eliza is too old for her part-NOT SO! Desperate Charlotte was at the upper age for marriage.

  • lol the way MR. Collins runs!!! lol ahahahahahahah

  • Wat erg, al die jaknikkers op dat bankje en het zijn allemaal mensen die haar naar de mond praten, mr. Collins is nog het ergste, gevolgd door miss Jenkins

  • LOL Lady Catherine looks like Mr. Bean's version of Whistler's Mother.

  • Darcy just can't keep away from her even to enduring his aunt's company. He just can't comprehend that Lizzie is truley this honest. That she won't kow-tow to him. His cousin certainly is a sweet guy and sees Darcy as he is. Probably why Darcy tolerates him. But that aunt and her ego. The young girl can't understand why they are invited to the big house so much. It's because the high-born woman needs an audience. She's used to Mr. Collins who listens to her every word. Lizzy is a threat.

  • I love how uncomfortable Darcy looks sitting there. "Should I go over there and talk to her? What if I say something stupid? She's so much prettier than I remember."

  • Well Lizzie he keeps staring at you because he likes you! :D

  • LOL i love how mary starts running when Mr Collins said "make haste make haste". Would have been very funny if Charlotte broke out on a run as well.

  • I hate Charlotte Lucas in this version.

  • what on earth does one and twenty mean! i have read and re-read the book, watched the clips, and i STILL can't make it out...please...someone end my agony!

  • @funnypumpkinhehe It means twenty one. Hope you can live in peace now :)

  • @vani4200 hahaha! thank you!!!

  • @funnypumpkinhehe it means twenty-one. thats how they said their age

  • It seems that mr. Darcy's family is just as awful as Lizzie's

  • what chapter is this in the book??

  • @tennisprolinda94 Chapter 31. It is practically the exact dialogue to the book. - That scene is some intimate btw Lizzie and Darcy -- even with all others near and far. "We neither of us perform to strangers ((((just each other))). ♥

  • At 5:03 music box chimes turns her frown upside down; very awkward!

  • Why should Mrs. Collins only go to Nicholson the Apothocary? Probably because he is the only Apothocary in Meriton that votes for Lady Catherine's Party candidate--whig or tory.

  • Lady Catherine is a very great lady indeed. Too bad Anne isn't a bit more alive.

  • Why's mr. Darcy brooding so much? If I told him "did you know like you're the main male protagonist of Pride and Prejudice and like all the girls are crazy over you" he'd probably like meh.

  • Colonel Fitzwilliam is very dashing in this adaption, if I were Elizabeth I'd prefer him to Mr. Wickham.

  • love this serie...

  • Lady Ca looks like mr bean hahaha, random thinking o.O

I expected her to be younger and prettier, she doesn't look elegant or so...and her daughter shouldn't be like that...too much make up (she's supposed to be weak and sickly but she is more like a zombie here ¬¬) .

  • lol the look of Cathrine de berg when Lizzy states out her opinion!!!!

  • Have you noticed that Lizzy think of Darcy every moment of her life???!!!!!!Well she does not speak well about him but she makes comments about him like "She will make a proper wife" in 01:53.I beileve that she cared for him otherwise she wouldn't get mad about his character....

  • The castle of The Rosings is indeed imposing , the grandeur of the castle is rather intimidating than inviting , i am sure even a short presence in the manor could not please even a more amiable persona than Lizzy.

I wonder how could a person feel well and at home in such a place, since comfort means sth else besides spacious rooms or luxury, comfort is in the air of the rooms and their interier design rather than in the dimensions of the manor

  • Anyone else think Colonel Fitzwilliam is rather charming? I always wondered why Lizzie didn't try to get to know him better. He seems a nice chap.

  • @SZRD

Actually, in the book they get closer to each other but then he makes it clear to her that they don't have a future because of Lizzie's low place in society

  • I encourage him to be in his garden as much as possible :-) She cracks me up!

  • Mr. Darcy is a divine creature to be sure....

  • Dang, playing Darcy's part is soo easy. All you have to do is STARE O.O

  • 5:09 LOL

  • Lady Catherine probably insists that Mrs. Collins go the Apothecary Nicholson because he votes for the Party that she supports--the Tories or the Whigs--while his rival votes for the opposite Party. People's votes were recorded and published. The gentry who vied for control of the borough and county seats in the House of Commons reviewed those books. And if a merchant did not vote the right way they ceased to patronize them. So much for the right to vote even for those few who had it!

  • Lady Catherine's modesty is quite....absent

  • Mr Darcy: STARE STARE STARE STARE STARE <3

  • I love the way Mr. Collins covers his mouth when Lady Catherine speaks.

  • "She will not think the worse of you for being simply dressed..."

Yeah sure, Lizzy's dress is the prettiest of all!!!!

  • I'm naming my child Fitzwilliam, fo' real.

  • the bushy sideburns are such a turn off!!.are they fake?

  • ooh i laughed so hard at lady catherine de bourgh. the way she is smiling and then suddenly turns real sour looking at lizzy (around 5:00)

  • Well, Colonol Fitzwilliam is looking rather dashing... why is he a pudgy Englishman in the American adaptation??

  • i love how Darcy just stares because hes so captivated by Elizabeth. its so awkward but ssooo cute ^.^

  • Jennifer Ehle (Elizabeth Bennett) reminds me of Merilyn Streep :)

  • haha I love Lady Catherine! LOL

  • I love Lizzy's face, its so soft and pretty looking

  • Mr. collins would be a good tour guide. (or bad...)

  • That is a beeeeeeyooooootiful horse!

Looks like Firth had to become a bit of a horseman for the part (well, for all I really know, everyone in the UK is a horsy person - but still).

  • LOL! Thumbs up if you crack up every time Mr. Collins put's his hand up to his mouth to shut himself up whenever "Lady Catherine" begins to speak. :) I can't stop watching that part.

  • Hey the music at 9.05 was also in Love Actually. Its called PM's love theme

  • @irisnsc It's actually Mozart's Piano Sonata No. 11 . It's one of my favorites. :D

  • ok mr darcy may be a total hottie, but he looks AWFUL in that hat!!!

  • Lizzy is my hero!sticking by her opinions even under the dangerous stare of lady Catherine.and darcy, what a perfect specimen !

  • i love that close up of lady catherine! haha

  • lol....she knows how to get rid of him

  • you know people are saying how much better this lizzy is than keira, but i find their acting styles as lizzy very similar...they both did a good job, its just on keiras part, good acting (no matter how good) cant make up for a mediocre script

  • cornel ftwilliams is fit... fit ...fit im not sure who id choose him or mr darcy. x

  • Lady Catherine: WHAT? All five out at once??? *DRAMATIC CAMERA SWOOP*

    DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN

  • I like Charlet's younger sister. Make haste he says, so she starts running XD

  • "Can you tell me why Mr. Darcy keeps staring at me? What do you think offends him?"

Can I answer instead of the colonel? He is offended because you are not his. Yet.

    Duh! :D

  • LOL i love how stupid Mr. Collins is (:

  • i always wonder why lady catherine never learned an instrument when there is no other person in the world with better sense for music^^

  • I like how Fitzwilliam smiles at 07:13! Seems like he's presuming something^^

  • @Sturmwoelfin I thought of it more as a silent message between explanations; as if he is sincerely saying: "That's why."

  • Ha I am glad that the De Bourghs are just as mortifying as Lizzie's family. Especially in this version even more than the book, I find

  • hot starring!!!

  • LOL charlottes little sis 6:8

  • how old is lizzy supposed to be?

  • @lovebabyL1 she's 20 I believe

  • he's always looking at her! hey i'm over here,, u can look at me too! hahah! Colin Firth is a great Mr. Darcy :) btw i love both versions. don't you agree??

  • if someone wud stare at me lyk dat,, i'll melt! wew,,

  • love the scene with Colonel Fitzwilliam, Darcy and Lizzy. especially Fitzwilliams expression when Darcy and Lizzy share something like polite conversation and later Darcy's expression, when Lizzy says "I always believe in first impressions and his good oppinion once lost is lost forever", he looks like "darn, she remembered that?!" so funny :D

  • @BenjiPiglette haha that's because us girls don't easily forget these things (insults) ehh :P

  • @BenjiPiglette ikr it is halarious

  • Phantonphan11: I agree with u completely. Colonel must be thinking "What a silly girl? If only she knew that the he has got his knickers twisted in his love for her, quite badly too." Ideal situation to quote Lydia Bennett, "La..what a joke!!"

  • " I like her. Yes she is sickly and cross. Yes she will do very well."

    i love Lizzie

  • Mr Darcy's confused and akward stares... oh so loverly

  • MERYL STREEP! THATS WHO LIZZY REMINDS ME OF!! goodness that was bothering me

  • @HannahVell YES!! My first thought exactly! The nose is different of course, but the rest, well, they could be sisters!

  • I love the music that plays whenever Lady Catherine is shown. It's like the Jaws theme song, warning the viewer of impending doom.

  • "Can you tell me why Mr. Darcy keeps staring at me?"

    Oh, gee, I haven't the slightest idea...*cough*

  • lizzy is very smart i love the way she wont let lady C put her down

  • Colin Firth is one of those rare actors who completly become the one character they're playing. Marvellous!

  • @chemical93girl i totally agree

  • maria lucas is sooooo cuute <3 love the actor!

  • Comment removed

  • @m2a2n2o2n Jane Austen describes Maria Lucas as an airhead.

  • @rasta13820 really? oh wow, didn't know that. I can see it though why.

  • I bet that Mr Collins will choose the name Catherine for his daugther :) or it migght be Rosie as a second choice \m/

  • Lady Catherine... The witch. xDD I love when she is smiling, then looks at Elizabeth and frowns. For such a serious character, she makes me laugh.

And Mr. Darcy. Oh, I can't breathe when he stares at Lizzy. I get so into the movie...

  • I loved in the newer version how darcy just showed up in the room and Elizabeth was just shocked dumb. It caters more to the romantic tension craver in me but I still love that scene.

  • i like the way Mr. Darcy is totally staring at Lizzie while Mr. Collins sits groveling at his feet. *swoon*

  • Isn't DARCY supposed to be Fitzwilliam?

  • @Sage80 ya... i was a bit shocked too!

  • @Sage80 He is. It's Fitzwilliam Darcy. However Fitzwilliam is a popular name in his family (his cousin) so he generally goes by William

  • 5:37. All I have to say.

  • Aww, I find Mariah rather adorable! So far she's a likeable character :-)

  • I love the part when Mr. Colins is like "Make haste, make haste!", and Charlotte and Elizabeth just stand there where as Mariah is running like hell. :)

  • Ban tophats!!!!!

  • Elizabeth's eyes positively sparkle!

  • After watching Lizzy for two and a half episodes, I must say I love her smile, she's just beautiful...I want to be just like her...:))
