i have the canon t3i and i own a 32gb class 10 memory card... while im recording, it says movie stop recording automatically. what does that mean and how can i fix that?
i agree with you, Jared, about Canon and how they're focus is on Video and then Still. I'm a Canon user myself, but i've been using a my friends Nikon D90 and i'm thinking of converting. hehe.
@tardis1996 so, let's say i want to choose between 60D and 600D, you would recommend 60D? i really like the articulating screen and i know that 60D has the feature. is the price of the two dslr different?
Another addition that most people seem to forget is the digital zoom in video mode... The zooming it quite nice and very smooth, plus u don't really loose much quality at all!
Fun review. Personally tho, I prefer the 600D over the larger 60D...and Im a big guy too. Bigger than Fro-Vader. I don't have little Ewok hands. I just prefer the smaller form factor since I travel alot. The T3i does have a deeper handgrip than the T2i and better padding. Slight ergonomic changes u forgot to mention, but no biggie. Cheerio. And may the Fro be with you. Peace out.
jared you legend! my ear propped up their when you mentioned in external mic input, ive been looking for a dslr for months now, just one with a mic in, articulating screen and hd video (and thats not 2,000 either - hello olypumus e5)
ive been taking shots with a canon a640 for that last 2 years so its hard to go back to using those weird flat screens now lol but at least i can upgrade, finally
Articulated screen is very useful IMO. But I'm afraid of hardware failure in the long run. By opening, closing, turning the articulated screen over and over again is bound to make the hardware fail.
@waggygee i know what you mean about 550D, 600D and the 60D but there's the canon 1D mark iv, 5D mark ii and canon 7D which i have is great for its price but if you switch to nikon you lose the canon L-lens to me that is not worth it.
Thanks people, i know now (after about a gazillion responses telling me) that the 60D DOES have a built in wireless flash trigger, don't respond anymore or i'm going to turn mad ... pretty please :)
@memkills Deal with it haha, that's something that people have to accept when buying a camera, cameras are like iPhones.
Every year they get better and better, and you lose money and value. I got the 60D a couple of months ago and I'll probably want to cry with the 70D comes out. Oh well. You can always put it on Cragslist if you're really desperate.
Great Review! I'm going to buy the T3i in a couple weeks. This is going to be great. Also can anyone tell me what wireless clip-on mic Jared used? I'd like to pick one of those up too. Thanks!
If i am an experienced amateur and really into photography do you reccomend that i just stick with the T1i and get a good lens or should i spend a little more and get the T2i/T3i? Are there really any more mind blowing features or will I be fine?
Please stop saying the Canon-Rebel-names as T3i and T2i, use the international names as 600D and 550D instead. Rebel-names are just mixing it all up for us Non-US viewers.
Thank you for a great review Jared! Keep up the Good work, and do more Canon-dedicated videos! Maybe do some videos where you compare Canon-lenses with the Nikon lenses.
@memkills thats what Canon usually does. I´ve seen that since the Elan 35mm film EOS came out. Canon is so eager to compete in the market that in my opinion it screws his own customers often.
I got a t2i like in Jan And when I heard about this coming out I was like crap I should 've waited. But then I remembered I had an old video camera that its screen rotates too. It sadly broked cause of the screen. I am not a fan of rotating screens anymore. They can break. I'd rather have it in place without rotating. Besides isnt that for video? I'm guessing canon is really pushing video on their dslrs. I guess its a nice feature. Still I like my LCD screens Static and in place.
When i was with Olympus (now nik) the articulating screen came in handy for me when doing macro shots. It helped me not get down on my knees and into the mud as much. Other than that, it comes handy with video and or candid over head shots. I guess it cant hurt to have it.
@antovegaphoto That may be.. but Canon are focussing TOO MUCH on video.
It seems as though they don't care about photography anymore, because all they are doing is using the same sensors from different cameras, and adding more features which will only be useful for video, such as the articulating screen.
Video is a good idea, but it's getting ridiculous with canon bringing out a new camera which is exactly the same as the old one, because they've focussed more on video, with the screen.
I heard that there was a 3x digital zoom for video, basicly it uses the more center pixels on the frame and scales less. A good little buy? Its a thousand fucking dollars lol
@TheNeonWorm Professionals really don't care for new bodies. When they are spending thousands on each body they don't upgrade every time a new body comes out. Not to mention better glass is always more important.
I agree that the upgrades weren't the best, but they are still very good. I don't see what everyone is getting so upset. Their stills are still very good and has been progressing so fast that it might just be hitting a wall. Video is new and loads of innovation is occurring. Calm!
@skatebaker321 yeah i figured id be unlucky with that swivel and break it. im super clumsy. lol I use it mostly for video so that wireless flash trigger doesn't really need use for me, right?
@mmmwwrr T3i is EXACTLY the same as the T2i, except it has a built in wireless flash trigger for some flashes, and an stupid articulating (rotating) screen.
Go for the T2i if you want something a little cheaper and exactly the same.
@DUI405 60D actually has the same wireless flash triggering system as the new 600D(T3i). Other update that the T3i got is the manual control over audio recording(same as the 60D). 60D still has better focusing sensor, faster continuous shooting speed, bigger RAW buffer and better handling. So still worth the 150-200 price difference. If you need those.
@Pixelements lol, i know ... you're the 14th person that tells me that :) next time, check the comments, press Ctrl+f and search for the username of the comment to which you wan't to reply ...
I originally bought the T2i for video. I ended up taking a lot more pictures with it then i thought. Im glad canon packed so much camera at the price point

The T3i - I think - is a good upgrade, but it is not worth $100 more than the T2i.
If you already have a T2i, stick with it. Don't buy the T3i just for the flip-out screen.
Use a mirror, or the LiveView software to see yourself when filming. (for that is what the screen is for) (obviously)

The 60D was an awful "upgrade" to the 50D, the 600D is an awful "upgrade" to the 550D, because they have done absolutely nothing.
They are focussing too much on video, and not on stills.
The 1Ds mk iii needs a major upgrade, as does the 5D mk ii as they are getting old now, and Nikon are ahead with bodies.

@DUI405 60D does have wireless flash trigger. 600D is simplified 60D.

I originally bought the T2i for video. I ended up taking a lot more pictures with it then i thought. Im glad canon packed so much camera at the price point
