the volvo 740 will never ever be a classic in sweden because everyone has got one. It's the most common pre 90's car here and every youth with no money and no job at all (aka fordonare...) owns one.
Com on... This is seriously the most stupid discussion I've ever seen... When I watch Fifth Gear I have great time. When I watch Top Gear I have an even greater time...
BUT, when I watch Fifth Gear I'm also thinking and learning. Top Gear is just for fun...
i mean i will watch both shows cuz its about cars but they don't now how to act make it funny like Top Gear and they stole there name well what ever too good shows than
wanna be? then u must have no idea. vicki and tiff were both from top gear, and then it was a good proper informative car show. Then BBC thought they were boring and sacked them, got in 3 clowns.
fifth gear is a car show of it's own right, and it's a much more useful program to watch. Topgear is just a comedy show for a laugh.
Graham is a legend in real life, this so doesn't do him justice! Really funny guy and awesome quiz host at my local! His dry humour probably isn't appropriate for tv viewing tho!
Lexus, Mitsubishi or Cadilac over an Audi? I'm not a rich mum and i don't know any but i do know a few young people with good taste and some of them drive Audi's. However none of them drive any of the above... But as i said they have good taste and are fortunately not American and spell mum like mom!
Hu well thats what you think. I just said that I've had personal exsperiences. I just would'nt buy an audi cross over or wagon. I like all the other audies though. I love mitsubishies for some reason; Its just the way they feel. Lexus is ok but they are kinda exspensive when I can just buy a toyota. Cadilac is just amazing; the ride and hp in some of them are crazy. Whos not american and I spelt mom like mom?
I've owned loads of Volvos and think they're great. The modern ones aren't slow either. Neither is the 740. A one and a half ton pile of Swedish metal being hurled around by a 2.3 4-cylinder is no-mean-fete!
this reminds me of that one time on top gear where a view got mad that they didnt review cars right... then they allowed clarkson to test the ford fiesta. .. that was bad ass lol
Great concept, fresh, interesting and intuitive. It certainly captured my attention and the different presenting styles from Vicki and Graham complimented eachother. I can see Graham is new but I am confident that as he progresses his rapport with he audience will be just as palpable as Vicki's. Well done Fifth Gear - more to come I hope. Sebastian Ambassador - The Times.
they do that in Scandinavia: Norway/Sweden too, there is nearly none people who like Volvos here, personaly I like the square ones like 740, 240 and i really like old ones like Amazon, PV and P1200. How are american cars threated where you live?
for the most part the American cars around here are unmodified and generally in pretty good shape until they get really old. There are a lot of American cars rotting away in people's back yards and fields, but there are also many of them which are still in perfect condition. It' isn't too rare around here to see muscle cars from the 1960/70s, or even old trucks from the 1920s.
the Japanese cars, though, are everywhere. most of them are driven into the ground, and are usually what the beginning drivers get as their first car because the used Hondas and Toyotas are pretty cheap. out of all the makes, they're probably the most you'll file that are heavily modified, with paint jobs, huge spoilers, glowing and flashing lights, and huge sound systems
Are you kiddin' me?? thats so sad, I hate japanese cars, they are everywhere here too. When I was around ten years old or so I tought there were lot's of 60s, 70s style american cars in america and I did not now that there wasn't (around year 2000). I am very aware of that I am living in the wrong country in the wrong time sadly.
But it is cool that there still are old muscle cars and trucks on the road! New cars like Dodge Charger, Challenger, Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro are great new cars.
We have car shows all the time around this area. I go to one every week that takes over half of a local department store's parking lot. Usually there is between 60 and 300 cars there and everyone walks around talking to eachother about their cars. It's fantastic. I have a 1987 Pontiac Fiero GT (similar to the Toyota MR2) that I bring and try to park near other 1980's American coupes
every week? wow, thats lucky, In my country there is very few car shows and it is usally a very long way to travel. However some times there are small car shows in my the town in the neighbor county, new cars are displayed and people who have old classics can show off their cars.
Im planning on going to Power Big Meet in Sweden this year tough, it is the worlds second largest Amcar meet after Woodward Dream Cruise in Detroit.
Power Big Meet is from 2-4 July and I get home from vacation on 1 jul
I could go to 4 every week within 20 minutes of driving if I had the time to do so!
I am going to a large car show in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, USA in three weeks--- I've been the past two years, and there is usually several thousand cars. It is incredible
cool! have fun! I am hoping to go to the USA sometime, but my parents and I usually travel to Greece and other euro-countries. If Im lucky I will go there next year, it is one of my dreams to buy a car in USA and drive across the country, like my dad did in 1981.
Japanese cars deserve respect. They usually last quite long, and some- like the Nissan GTR are really impressive performance and quality. Personally I'm partial to American or European cars...but Japanese cars are just as good in most cases.
Yeah it is good that some og them have good quality and last long, i respect them for that. But they have none cars that are nice to look at, to fat and lumpy. the 70s Mazdas, for example the 121 from 77' is nice probably because it looked just like a ford torino, but 121 had horrible quality. Japanese cars did not have good quality before the 1980s, before 1970s American cars dominated, but lost to Japscrap because they used a little less gas (petrol).
It is because British TV is not corporate. It's government controlled, and as such it has greater freedom in criticizing companies who just MIGHT in the good ol' USA, pull their funding when their products don't cut the mustard.
Heck, look at the car shows and magazines we DO have. They are little more than hack shills, peddling wares to the general public.
Brilliant! Thanks for the Web TV. I am a huge fan of British auto television and thrilled to have something new to watch on YouTube. The stuff we have in the states hit their peak in 1989. (MotorWeek) Admittedly, I did discover British car culture via TopGear, but prefer Fifth Gear because there is less faffing* about. (*slang term not used in the states, I hope I used it correctly)
Very Very good...I really like this web tv, hopefully works out and you guys make alot of these...there very informative and keep you up to date in the automotive industry

The Audi is more spacious, better looking and more practical than the BMW and you damn well know that.

Personal experiaces. But Audis are driven by rich moms so I don't think I would consider eather. I would go for a lexus, mitsu, cadi, or vw.

Not bad at all! Keep going please. But, three pieces of advice for Graham:
1. Shave - you look terrible depending on the light. Sorry, but you are on TV
2. You need more substance and content to your reports.
3. Stand still when you are on camera! 'Don't do the toilet dance' it's distracting!
Finally - good luck to you. You will no doubt gain confidence as the series progresses.
