Hyruleand, I never diminish any singers voice but do critique their ability in their perfomance of a song. Elvis did not have a great voice, from my prospective, but he did have charisma that was received very well by his fans. He was performing music that was listened to, although black, because he was white and good looking. He had the stage presence to perform Black while being white. He was a very good performer that learned from others just like evrybody else.
There were many singers who sang "Impossible Dream" with style and passion.
Matt Munroe was a very good barritone whose voive produced rich, clean soundsv as vwel las those bass sounds you need to rumble with when your songs require it to make women swoon. Matt was the only "Britt" baritone that was able to compete with american talent and also become a star internationally.
Hamilton did some very good music with some ballads, however he also sang some at a good level which I catagorise as mediocre. He didn't or perhaps the recordings didn't sound clear in his enunciation of words and also did not stay on key continuosly.
"To be but a thought in your heart ..............,to be willing to die so that honour and justice may live", good grief, if ever more beautiful words could be put into one song, i think not. many thanks, one happy Welshman
In this version of the song he sings "to give when there's no more to give, to be willing to die so that honor and justice may live" this is the only version of this song I have heard on youtube that sings this verse. All of the others sing it differently. Has anyone noticed that there is a different version of this song?
Elvis died on the Shitter because he is a Thief and a Parrot, who Stole everything he had from Black Artists. He exploited White Heathen Racism. And pretended He was more then a Parrot. Elvis and Evils, shows the Whole Evil nature of White Folks trying to make a King out of a Thief, that is all White Folks is feed off of, their own BS lies. And they Even are stupid enough to think their oppression spawned Black Music. BLACKS ARE THE SONGS OF DAVID, FROM THE ANCIENT OF DAYS, in Cosmic time.
Never heard of this guy. Am an Elvis fan, but this is like Elvis is alive again, what a find fantastic voice. He wont over take theking. But AM so glad I found this guy.
Roy Hamilton and Jackie Wilson were two great performers that Elvis really liked. Only "fans" "compete"; most performers admire each other's work- and "borrow" from each other.
God bless you too for your special words about my father Roy Hamilton. please go to my videos and view my memorial to my late father. your comments are always welcomed. -Ray Hamilton
You don't know What you're saying.I love Roy Hamilton and think he had the best version of this song,..Jack Jones had the hit on this song longs before Roy recorded it..so he did not get "ripped off"...and the song is from the Broadway musical, "The Man of La Mancha" most of the artist who recorded the song did so before Roy ever did, like I stated, he had the best version..and it's the only one I will listen to...bought the Lp when it came out & it's the best Roy ever made, every song a classic
Roy's version is MUCH better than Elvis'..It's the best of al lthe verisons i have evr heard..and I've heard over 100. Elvis was largely influenced by Roy Hamilton and admitted it. Many of the "Elvis" songs were originally done by Roy who was a huge star before Elvis. This particular track is very distorted and is not playin at the correct speed. This song was recently release on a Roy Hamilton CD...
Elvis was not perfect for sure, but the way he sings, the emotion he gives in the songs, cannot be compared. I think that´s a fact. Even though there are many singers who do a great great job in their way. Roy is great too, but he couldn´t express emotions as Elvis does.
Sorry, but you've got that so wrong...Once Elvis started doing the Las Vegas shows, he lost all emotional interpretation of his songs...just because those arrangements were LOUD and he contorted his face, does not transmit emotion, only "showmanship"..once he went to Vegas, I stopped listening to him. As to Roy, he WAS the prime example of how to put emotion into a song...That's why Elvis loved his music and covered so many of his songs. Check out "Hurt" by Roy and Timi Yuro..that's the way.
@PutOnASweater have you heard andy williams version?andy williams owns the song. BUT I favor peter o'tooles genius performance over all because he really knows the feeling and meaning of the words portrayed with emotion.
@Mathew1985AZ I've heard so many versions of this song that I finally got tired of it. But Roy in my opinion has the best. The track here is very distorted and is playing a bit fast...I don't know if there is another video of Roy doing this, but i'ts worth looking for on LP...the CD "compilation" that contains this song by Roy is not a very good representation of his talent.
@PutOnASweater Which version of Elvis' are you talking about? Elvis, unlike Roy, never made a studio recording of the Impossible dream but sang it several times in concert. All this 'this version is better than so-and-so's version' makes no sense whatsoever as it's based on personal opinion, so is hardly a statement of fact. Though Elvis admired Roy, there are very few songs 'originally' recorded by Roy that Elvis recorded, as they too were recorded by other artists before Roy recorded them.
@TheMG63 3 come to mind immediately. "I Believe", "Hurt", You'll Never Walk Alone'. Nothing wrong with recording great songs others had hits with, the problem is that the "Vegas Elvis" sang those songs as if he were Roy Hamilton & in my opinion poorly.. Artists emulate their mentors & that's ok, he made some great covers when he recorded in his own style: Saved, That's All Right, Mystery Train, etc. Elvis should have stayed with his own style, when he went to Vegas, he became Neil Diamond.
This guy helped put me through High School along with all the other great singers of the middle 50's who never got the recognition they so badly deserve!
Andy williams is the best version of this song BY FAR - this version is awful, i sing better than this in the shower - awful voice, talentless quite frankly
Always loved "Don't Let Go", but never heard his other stuff till now. What a talented dude, man. Should have been a household name. BTW, the lyrics make even a cynic like me believe. Gonna grab some of Roys stuff.
My extreme thanks to you for publishing this version of my all-time favorite and also an all-time favorite singer. For me Roy Hamilton owns UNCHAINED MELODY. This and his renditions of HURT and EBB TIDE are his all-time triad. Again, thanks.

How can anyone after hearing the sheer

the proper promotion of Roy Hamilton's music ? Was it Stupid Racism or Insane
Stupidity ?
