i've seem to observe that the cold steel magnum kukri machete bends while tree chopping, why is that? is it a good thing?is the magnum full tang? and is the blade thickness ideal for its length of the blade?
Can you do this test with the TOPS Anaconda Tanto tip? It seems to be one of the leading survival knives sold, and the reviews are outstanding. its a 15+ inch strait edge, 1/4inch thick 1095 carbon steel. I know if you did the test, you would get alot of feedback. Hell TOPS might even sponsor the vid, who knows. anyway, thanks alot for this video, told me alot
i liked this till i saw u smack the machette against concrete....this is most rediculous test ive ever seen a knife get put thru.....when out in the woods the next time i see blocks of concrete..and have abosolutely no choice but to hit them with a machete..ill take ur test as legitimate...until then...this was pointless..and a complete waste of time
@noss4 so thats how u talk to people who watch your videos huh? lmao ..wow im a "fucking douche bag" and a "fucking idiot" LOL nice one....all this coming from the man who hits concrete blocks with knives...lol u have a great day sir
@metallicaholic43088 Yep this is the way I talk to people like you on you tube. When you post stupid comments like your first one I may hit back. Don't comment on stuff you don't understand. Please don't watch my videos either. Your simple to dumb to understand them.
@noss4 no prob my friend..id much rather spend my time watching videos made by people...who "care" who watch them...not just dudes that like to bash their viewers without rationally talking first...but hell whats one more sub to a hotshot like u right? u could care less...most people who do knife reviews..or even "torture tests" make videos for people who are intersted in actually purchasing the knife..as a means to be informative..if ur just gunna be dick then yeh im out...peace
@metallicaholic43088 LOL !! your a two faced bastard in your comments. You don't even realize what your saying do you ? There are plenty of other videos for you to watch on YT , so get lost !
@OooHesGood I have both. Kukri machete is much stronger and sturdier. You know the two bolts on the gator's handle? yeah thats how deep the blade goes. Pretty pathetic 1/4th tang design for something you swing and chop with. Get the kukri machete if you can. Although the Gator does have a better grip and a really good saw. Hope I helped xD
@CookieMMMonster O wow, awesome answer. This helps alot, I still didnt buy either one, I went and got the Bear Grylls parang lol.. I want to buy another one this weekend so maybe I will pick up the cold steel kukri. Thank you!!
@wolfieakita to break them? some knives have gotten through cinder blocks, so you never know. (battle mistress for example he ended up having to cut steel tubing and even then it only broke when he was dead-hitting on a weld for a while)
if you want to get rid of the shock in the handle, wrap it with 550 cord, it doesnt completely get rid of it, but it helps alot, and it makes it more comfortable to hold too
@LJtricks This machete is good as a chopper. If you live where i do (north-west Washington state) you would need a chopper and slasher. So I would recommend a latin machete.
@Taud A great quality (Better than cold steel by far), cheap, 11 inch khukuri would last you a whole military career and can take a lot - compared to the machete version of a standard gurkah knife by cold steel. (The machete shape reduces the ability of it by a lot and the handles - from other reviews - have broken, or aren't great quality). Trust me, you want a Napal made one.
@Isaacxilia1 Those are more expensive with shipping than the one for 20$ from my local store, cold steel brand though, thats not true that it breaks because this knife test reveals it DOES NOT break even after hacking brick and the rubber coating got ripped off the handle was full tang and still in tact, ive never seen these 'cheap kukris" youre talking about the ones on that website are around 45$ american plus tax and shipping, 90% of us dont have jungles in our yards so for the amount of use..
Oh dear, oh dear... as a knife lover watching this just makes me cringe but I am still glad you did it so I could get to see what this knife is good for.
OK I was curious if this thing would survive just normal outdoor use....I think the question has been answered and I haven't even been all the way through the test videos. Thanks, you helped me make my choice. Given I am kinda thinking of the Magnum but I might go with this one since its shorter and it will be easier to wield in close proxy to trees and such.
Thanks to this video i made up my mind and actually bought two of these ! one to use and the other just to have for show i guess. Thanks for testing this kukri machete !
can you make a destruction test on the CS latin machete also? i really like machetes and i would like to see more destruction tests for them =P if not possible, then oh well
Actually they slice and slash quite well, due to their shape and frontal weight of its blade. The design has legends of being able to out-cut katanas and other swords in combat (notably decapitating opponents) and proving itself sturdy and reliable for utility/mundane chores..
and not to mention! the spartans had a very similarly shaped sword that looked almost the same! sooo yeah come on now the spartans knew their stuff soooooooo.... the design is awesome
Well, yeah, but a knife and a sword are two different animals -- my point was that the kukri's cutting strength and structural integrity enables it to perform a variety of tasks; not just combat or just utility -- it's an interesting blade for that reason. Also, it's ergonomics are delightful.
The Spartan Kopis is more of what the Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete is -- and it too is a superb tool/improvised weapon.
same with me...i like gurkha style more cause of the way it is made and the force it provides ( a blunt CS can't do much- no weight...but a ghurka's blunt khukri is like an axe!!!)
I bought one of these last year and I have to say I went on a tree chopping spree untill the point where i built a compost box and shed and I have never been happier.
Your really using the wrong kind of blade / weapon for this, if you want a full on work tool which you can beat constantly with a hammer and hack trees down with, you need a billhook. Not sure how easy they are to get in USA though.
Its a chopper, not a razor. 1055 steel isn't very good for knives that need to stay razor sharp (lower carbon content=soft steel). Its great for impact resistance though. Also, any steel thats easy to dull is also easy to sharpen to a useable chopping edge again.
i've seem to observe that the cold steel magnum kukri machete bends while tree chopping, why is that? is it a good thing?is the magnum full tang? and is the blade thickness ideal for its length of the blade?
