  • Fine.

  • He sang "Dig this!" at 00:43, not the 'itch word, lol, followed by "Remember this. You know you called me on the phone'

    (Dig this=Check this out)

The song would not have made it through the recording company much less the "airwaves".

  • For two people who supposedly hated each other, they sure recorded a ton of duets together. I'm calling BS on this particular rumor.

  • They were absolutely fantastic together.

  • I love them both on this song... yes, good chemistry.

  • regardless of what you critics say this is awesome beats & sounds so hey folks ENJOY IT.

  • Brook, Dinah . . . this recording is sugarsweet - absolutely great!!

  • Strong performances from an album that was supposed to be full of duets... however Dinah walked out and the album only had 4 sides with the both of them, this was after the success of "Baby you got what it takes." They came across so well connected on wax too bad she was such a Prima Donna.

  • LOVE LOVE these two...always have...always willl

  • Dinah Washington is one of the greatest female singers of all time. If you listen to some of her other songs you will hear flexibility, power and she hits the exact note every time.

  • they were the finest! she is my all time favorite singer!

  • what does anyones personal life have to do with their singing ability they both were great entertainers in their own way their legacy will live on

  • He says " dig this "

  • this absolutely the original,i have the 45.check out on wikapedia about dinah.great voice sad story.

  • This is a real fun song, and they are having a great time singing it. Brook started one of her verses and she had to sneak in. That's what she's referring to at the

end when she tells him to "stay out of my spot". What great fun and what wonderful

    music. Pure magic.

  • keigoede muziek beter dan de shit die er vandaag gemaakt wordt

  • ....this particular recording could have been live from a TV or stage show, definitely not the vinyl 45 that was released back then. But keep looking you'll probably come across the one mean.

  • While they may have not gotten along well, Brook or any other person, would not live long, if they called Dinah, 'bitch'. She was the Queen of jazz, and one of the most respected people in the industry.

No one like her since, and IMHO, only Billie Holiday in the past. Brook was a great vocalist as well.

  • OK i know i am gonna get crucified for this but Dinah's voice is defitnetley the better of the two on this track theres just something bout her voice that defo leaves him in the shade. sorry for me it has to be shaky and Bonnie both voices sit perfectly with the song. but on this Dinah is defitnetley the stronger voice brook sounds kind of flat to me

  • @Adrian68ification

    Grabbing hammer and nails...:)

  • @rpbizzle - LOL

  • @Adrian68ification Beook's voice was so sexy. He was so sexy. It was the delivery!

    Brook was definitely the mac!

  • @Adrian68ification Beook's voice was so sexy. He was so sexy. It was the delivery!

    Brook was definitely the mac!

  • @Adrian68ification Hey, listen to rainy night in Georgia (live) by Brook Benton. you gotta love this guy..

  • @Adrian68ification i'll go get the cross!brook is the best!

  • @Adrian68ification

    BOLLOX

  • @xjr1300ist wow did you write that all by yourself? or did someone hold the crayon for you?

  • @Adrian68ification....Oh ya Dinah is great but nobody can touch the fine Brook Benton.....

  • @Adrian68ification - it's just a perfect song. period.

  • It's "Hey. Dig this. You remember this?" He even later says, "I'm diggin' you." & "You dig the rock?" He was a professional. He wouldn't have called her a bitch. This isn't the 'hiphop' of today. These people had sense and sensability. They handled their business. Respectfully. They delt with their differences. Preofessionally.

  • He said dig this, nothing else.

  • He deosnt say "big bitch" at all at 00:43. It sounds like he says, "Hey, dig this.."

  • Also, his name was BROOK BENTON not "Brooks Benten"

  • @HNK222

I will take care of this error.. thank you!

  • excuse me.....I do not want to hear/read anymore comments refuring to Brook name calling Dinah.

  • I am 14 and I love this music!!! Much better than the music today!

  • I swear Brook Called Dinah a Bitch @ 00:43 ... i listened to it over and over again..

and i know they didn't like each other.. . at first i thought he said.. "hey, i bet you remember this"... but it also sounds like.. "Hey bitch you remember this"... lol

  • @malcolmxfool

No.. I do NOT here him say bitch.. and I'm sure he would not do that while they were making a song together... that would not have been very professional to say the least.

  • @rpbizzle ... I didn't say it was set in stone.. but i did say that it does sound like he says it...

lol.. and it wasn't like it was very professional of Dinah to say "Stay out of my spot" on the recording either...

  • @malcolmxfool I'm ROTHFLMAO!!!! Yeah man i heard that too, but it sounds like he said "big bitch", either way it's too damn funny

  • @malcolmxfool

He says, "Dig this. You remember this?" .. It's not even difficult to hear.

You have to remember this was 50 years ago before being ignorant was considered "cool".

  • @HNK222 I hear it..... wow, chill out ... i'm pretty positive that i said that "it sounds like he says it".... at any rate it's a great song.. i just hate that songs were so short back then.

  • @malcolmxfool LOL, that is too funny, but you maybe right. He is either saying that or " hey, I bet you remember this".

  • @malcolmxfool Listen closer, he says, "Take this, ya rmemeber this?'

  • @malcolmxfool its: dig this, you remember this? But you are right they did not like each other.

  • @malcolmxfool agree with you

  • @malcolmxfool how's the weather i LaLa land?

  • @malcolmxfool how's the weather in LaLa land?

  • @nomiclas Pretty good actually.... lol

  • @malcolmxfool I've listened to it over and over and he definitely does not call her a bitch. He says "take this, you remember this".

  • @pushkint1 I know I heard it before i even put the first comment on here, I meant that it almost sounds like he says that. As badass as Dinah was i know he knew better.. i don't know why everyone is freaking out on here about my comment though....

  • @malcolmxfool "DIG THIS"; get some speakers worthy of the name, Malcolm!

  • @strandwolf wow, what a slap in the face.. I actually do have pretty good speakers, though they're not worthy of my name, haha.. Chill out people, geez

  • @malcolmxfool Okay...I didn't know you'd been thoroughly raked over the coals before I chimed in but I see numerous chastisers beat me to the punch as it were. However, there is a wild and naughty song from the the Fifties or early sixties. Put this in the YouTube search window: Jackie Wilson & LaVern Baker, ''Think Twice'' (X-rated version) ...

  • @strandwolf yeah i'm beaten and bruised up over here over that comment...

YESSS i've heard that .. i love both that song and the original. Also, to set the record straight, Dinah is one of my favorite artists (of all time). She's one of the ones that i listen to everyday, so i definitely haven't anything but love for her AND Brook.

  • @malcolmxfool Nope, he says, ...dig this, now you remember this.... it's pretty clear really.

  • @malcolmxfool

Hahaha, I think you're right. But I believe she herself used to call herself bitch. There is an excellent documentary called "Evil Gal Blues". On this her pals tell she had a strong personality and very outspoken. I think she needed to be that way to deal with prejudice of skin and male world. Also there is a vid of her where the host introduce her as Queen of Blues and she say something like "Well darling, people use to call me with another name". She was GREAT. Cheers

  • @malcolmxfool But they made a hell of a musical chemistry in spite of it

  • @Savvynlady They Did, Didn't They? They Sure Know How To Sing Great Together...;P

  • Thx for sharing. The pairing of Dinah Washington and Brook Benton is incredible. Their voices mesh so well. This is too smooth. These are true artists. I believe that "You Got What It Takes" is another song they sang together.

  • Im starting to get into 60's music. I love this song! Thanks for posting it!

  • i just bougt an old 1978 lincoln town coupe.and in the car i found an old 8 track cassete with brook benton and with this song on it. i have played it alot it is very very good!

  • @lamdasond

I'm suprised that 8 track tape even plays.....wow... better get it converted to a CD real soon... you found a keeper for sure.

  • @lamdasond

Thx for sharing. The pairing of Dinah Washington and Brook Benton is incredible. Their voices mesh so well. This is too smooth. These are true artists. I believe that "You Got What It Takes" is another song they sang together.

  • ill always be old school this is true rock and roll

  • This is as sharp as a brand new razor blade!

  • This is sharp as a brand new razor blade!

  • shaky and bonnie sound like 2 girls singing to each other......no way they sound better than dinah and brook

  • I don't think anybody could ever come close to singing like these old jazz artistes

  • i love this song although the strings at the very beginning were left out

  • Shaky and Bonnies version is much better.

  • They play this song on the movie Nights in Rodonthe. It's A VERY GOOD MOVIE!!

Good song, good movie~ they mention Dinah Washington and play a few of her songs in that movie :)

  • @bobbysocksbaby21 I loved the movie and especially loved it when they played this song!!! Very nice touch!

  • @bobbysocksbaby21 This is exactly why I searched for it here... that movie is really great (unfortunately it breaks my heart every time I see it) and just have to love the sequence where they play this song...

  • You can just sense the great relationship these two talents shared. Thanks for this.......

  • Well all right Dinah and Brook! Awesome!

  • Originals are always the Best and this is one of the Very Best.!

  • Brillent super share Thanks Judie

  • This melody is one that pleases me soooo much....both perform very coool and relaxed....sensational!!!

  • @gfks11 Two wonderful singers of that time period.

  • I've always loved their duets. Thanks for posting!

  • Don't make 'em like this anymore! They were a perfect duo.

  • great song - best voice ever from DW

  • Loving it anythime...rockin good way yeah baby

  • The harmony between the two is amazing. They seemed to have a lot of fun during recording. In comparison, today's acts are just Someshit feat. Anothershit.

  • @Corbon440 No ! They did not like each other at all...specially Dinah disliked totally Brooks general way of being...she said that he was arrogant and she felt exploited as he claimed all the success for their duets....

  • I love this ....first heard in a movie nights of rodanthe

  • This album is a classic!!!!

  • Love the way this sounds so natural to both of them. Good stuff

  • : Dinah Washington

  • Can we ever get back to this?

  • Thanks for posting this classic and awesome talents .

  • great

  • brook passed away in 1989 god bless pete

  • love it!!!!!!

  • Brilliant

  • Great track , they sound like they are having fun. That Dinah was a bit of a girl.

  • And, just in case anyone is in any doubt, I can tell you that "rockin" as in "rockin good way" is definitely NOT a four-letter word!! Just thought I'd better clear up that little matter. Love to one and all from Jarrahnut (Big Hugh from Mundlimup) in wonderful Western Australia.

  • yes its a pity you missed the first few bars, maybe you could re list it!! I love it though

  • Great number ... just a pity that you missed the first few bars. I think this would have been released about 1959? Thanks rpbizzle ... good on ya! Well done.

  • green thumb five stars

  • i love it

  • Oh man, what a lovely duo. Love your songs man. It brings back fondest memories to our family here in New Zealand. Your most popular song was The Bo Wee Val Song. Wasn't that a great hit for you. Remember that when I was in my late 20s Bro. Anyway from all of us here from New Zealand thanks for the memories Bro, you have been a classic. God Bless you my man.

  • @MrYenrab100 Brook Benton is no longer with us - he passed away maybe five years or so ago. His voice is is so beautiful.

  • @GETTINGYOUNGERONE Actually, Brook died April 9, 1988 (twenty-two years ago) in Queens, NY. He was only 57 years old. He had 49 charted singles during his career and even wrote some big hits for other artists. His biggest song of all time was Rainy Night in Georgia, of course...the one he's most remembered for. He was a class act all the way. Gorgeous voice.

  • Makes me happy.

  • Never thought I'd find this wonderful old song -- it's one of my all-time favorites! Thanks!

  • has anyone got a better sound copy? cheers!

  • A real classic, an love the "repartee" exchanges too.

  • Aw Shucks! Is this good or what?

  • the drink played a big part in her death to.

  • how come their voices sounds different? is cuz it was like 1950 and they talked different or cuz the rcorders sound quality?

  • Love this ol' toon !!!

  • This was a MUST every Saturday and Sunday in my house. My Daddy wasn't playing.

  • @The022450 I love your comment!!! Same at my house (smile!)

  • This was awesome!!!! Thanks for posting!

  • cool!!!!!!!

  • does anyone have a better sound quality than this on??

  • they did not get along in the studio but when they started singing it was magic

  • Comment removed

  • Early 60s was hard times for black people & talented musicians. Unfortunately drug prevalance and easy accessibiltity created an escape route for the likes of D.W.

  • @tarsybvundura

It was diet pills...she wasn't getting high.

  • jga665 thanks for the correction,

  • right on, au33, I know I sound like an old fart but when I do my best to rasp out a pale imitation of Gene Vincent or Brook Benton I can catch a glimpse of the spirit behind the voices and yes, they are rare spirits. Just because these gems are hard to find on the radio, we have the blessed You-Tube. Thank you for posting, rpbizzie.

  • my favorite duo

    God at work!

  • The reason you don't here singers like that anymore, those singers developed there singing styles on the road doing a million one nighter apart from other singers, today manufactured talents listen to the radio and say I can sing like that and so they do.

  • She died from those pills for she was popping so many pills in her and also had insomnia too. She wrecked her body at such a young age with the pills and the alcohol but some folks forget that the body is a machine that will break down if you abuse it and so many, many people continue to do just that. Dinah should've been around for a long time but we lost her before she got to her prime. She's still one of the best singers that ever lived.

  • smoooooth

  • one story i heard was that Brook Benton didn't want to get romantically involved with her..she was married 6 times by the time they recorded their two duets....Baby, You Got What It Takes was the other

  • WOW! Why aren't their people who can sing like this anymore, both great talents that died far to young

  • @zaphod8eeblebrox Oh, How I wish I could just see them performing this. What a wonderful posting and performance.

  • Did he ever married? Did he had children?I love his music. Its beautiful.

  • a whiskey, or a db.

  • What a talent!

  • Brill, Brill, Brill

    Many Thanks

  • actually she killed herself with alcohol.7 marriages and depression.such a shame for such a beautiful talented lady.gone at 39!thank you dinah and brook.one of the best tunes ever.

  • She was not depressed when she died and she died from a accidental overdose of diet pills, Can happen to anyone

  • @nomiclas

    she didnt kill herself

  • I'd never heard of brook benton. Love this, tho

  • Great song ... Great natural duet together. She died much too young.

  • Great talent. Love Dinah and Brook together. Another one of their greats.

    Thanks

  • rainy night in georgia does it for me

  • This is tumeke - have always loved this song ......really enjoyable, goes well with a whisky on the rocks.....

  • Love, love love this music. I wish there was more of it. Thanks for posting.

  • Dinah told Brooke, " I'm tired of making you famous". I'm glad tolerated him long enough to make the great songs they made together!

  • Brook Benton had a great voice and just was a super over all Talent ...his only problem was during his later days he was chosen to do an intro at the Grammies .. or one of those bug shoe deals from hollywood....Brook came onCamera ... Drunk at hell ...he could hardly stand uo .. it may have been something .. but the man was waisted .. couldnt neven get his words out ... it was his big chance .. but he screwed it all that nite ....it may be posted somewhere ...

  • great love it

  • Brook and Dinah made a good combination really great partnership.

  • they never liked each other but they mad hell of good tunes lol.

  • Brook da man :)

  • I heard that they fell out.....And that was why they did not record much for this session....

  • Smoooooooth never goes out of style

  • Yes...fantastic.... yeah baby !!!

  • 1 of my old skool faves 2 dance the Rock n Roll too! "don't mess around" with me boy...cos' i'll whip ya one! You better ask somebody... LOL!

  • Thanks to all the wonderful comments guys.... makes me feel so good to know I've been able to please so many people with this song.

  • Ur welcum!!!! My Poppa really liked Brooks sound "bet your bottom dollar" he did :o).

  • @rpbizzle Please us you did!! Grew up on the song!

  • Benjamin Franklin Peay (September 19, 1931 — April 9, 1988), man's man baby. Could sing you out or under the table baby makes no difference.

    Sy-

  • This 1960 duet has always been a favorite of mine from the 60's, and what more can be said about this duo, two of the most respected singers in music history.

  • This is a giant of a classic. My,My what else can I say. SEXY, GROVY and I wish I were there when he recorded this song.

  • This is one of those songs that is a killer just as soon as you first hear it. A clasic that couldn't be done better by anyone, ever. A real beauty.

  • Terrific, what a song. Fantastic

  • great tune

  • i think i'll go to wikipeda to check out dinah.there is some deep stories about her life.

  • this beautiful stereo version is absoluteley stunning!

  • any one know why Dinah didn't like Brook. I hear she thought he was a hayseed or something. Brook Benton could sing circles around anyone in his generation.

  • ZZYZZX1 Dinah didn't like Brook because she was living out one of her classic songs "Evil Gal Blues"! LOL! Read her biography "Queen" by Nadine Cahodas. She could be one "evil gal"!

  • lurve this songgg

  • hört sich gut an!

  • I'm dancing now!!!!!

  • sounds like good old fashioned flirting love it

  • Yep. Thanks for the tip. Sounds much better in the 60s style stereo.

  • Add &fmt=18 to the end of the URL to hear in wide stereo. Dinah and Brooks vocals are separated into left/right speakers, not that uncommon for sixties stereo.

  • Thanks for the tip!!!

  • Thanks for sharing great video!

  • I made this video when I first got into making video's...too bad I didn't have a few more pictures of them to use for this.
