They refer to themselves as monkeys, meaning that a lot of people see people like them (homos) as some kind of odd beings, only there for entertainment, but not real people with real feelings. Kind of like how they're behind bars in the Ya Soshla S Uma video, where everyone is just walking by and looking at them.

Also, when they say love for everyone and anguish for monkeys, they mean that everyone deserves to be loved except gay people. Get it?

However, they think it's just ''monkeys for pure entertainment'', and shouldn't be taken seriously. They call everyone ''monkeys.'' Listen to the whole ''Dangerous and Moving'' album, all the songs fit along the same lines.It has nothing to do with being gay. Any person can relate to what their saying.

Why is the "M" pronounced as an English "T" here? I thought in Russian, the "T" sound is the Russian symbol as "т" as in "Что". I'm fucking confused.

@mzzzhedison M in Russian is Мм (notice how the small m is rigged like the big m) whereas "T" is 'т' in regular form, but the cursive, and often-used, version is "m" (where it's rounded not rigged). It is very confusing and a little hard to get used to.

And the fact that they sing in Russian, oh, ... I never hated Russian, like many people in my country do, I always kinda enjoyed speaking it, but thanks to Tatu I enjoy listening to it even much more. I don't really like the English versions, they just somehow lack the... I don't know, the authenticity, the emotions of Tatu's Russian versions of songs.

Having said all of the previous (about not clearly understanding the lyrics) I must stress that from the very beginning I liked (or even loved) Tatu, because.. well, can't describe it better than "because of their sound". The music is, IMO, great. Complex arrangements, many subtleties, great rhythms. And then, there are THOSE VOICES. There's something about them, I don't know how to... There's URGE in them. Mindless recklessness. Very strong appeal. I just can't get enough listening to them.

But I might be wrong, of course - I neither hear nor read Russian regularly. However, out of pretty much all Tatu's songs that I've tried to translate for myself, none has made much sense - you get the general message, but the lyrics are constructed in such a bewildering way... It's just in the way they compose their lyrics. But they're not the only ones - someone writes their lyrics clearly and simply, someone doesn't. Take Don Henley's Boys of summer, for example, or Hotel California.

I would make some minor corrections, though. For example "chestnykh psykhov mozhno ne lechit" - this translation says "Honest psychos don't need healing", I would rather say "Genuine psychos (psychicaly disturbed) can't be healed". Or, I feel that to translate "Moya veselaya" as "You're my cheerful pain" is maybe a bit too... bold? Can't find the right word. I would just say "My cheerful" and then the next verse goes "My funny pain". There's no "you're" in it, it would have to be "ты моя.."

To all non Russian speakers accusing the author of not translating the lyrics correctly: I studied Russian for 4 yrs, plus my native language is a Slavic one (= similar to Russian in its roots), so I speak Russian well enough to confirm that these translations are more or less CORRECT LITERAL translations. As to the MEANING, that's another question - maybe native Russians can make sense of it, I can't. But Ya obezyanka nol really means I'm monkey zero, whatever the meaning. I would make some

monkey is being used as a term for slave or someone whom works for another without cause, reason, or question so (and this is just my interpretation) it's something to do with one being a monkey for another as an act of love, monkey zero shows that they are weak or bellow and trying to gain appeal to another.

That's because Null and Void is NOT a direct translation. As with all of t.A.T.u's songs, the Russian version is a completely different set of lyrics to the English version. They don't just translate the lyrics when they do an English version. They do something that is similar - but it's never the same. A lot of international bands do this, because it's hard to get exact translations that will fit to the rythmn of the song.

It makes sense as long as you take it as metaphoric, certainly in the case of the Russian songs. Some of the early English ones like 'Clowns' don't, but I feel that this definately does
