Macchi C.202/C.205 (262) Fiat G.55, (350)and Reggiane Re.2005 (45) (657 total production) were three Serie 5 Italian fighters.All had the Mercedes DB 605 ( same as ME-109) They were generally considered better planes than the ME-109 and a match for any allied fighter. There were 33,984 109's, 16,769 yak-9, an 20,251 spitfires.It was typical of the Italian war effort that they produced meager numbers of three excellent fighters rather than trying to produce significant quantities of one design.
