a) don't know what they're talking about or

b) have only listened to a couple of songs from each band.

They`re both great bands. nevertheless without new wave and post punk bands, like Joy Division, New Order, and many others it would be impossible for bands like Interpol to emerge as they are influenced by the 80s stuff. I guess when somebody compares Int. to JD he`s more like "they share a similar feel" than "they sound the same"

@mistermaster2000 Indeed there isn't; the problem is that most people comparing them use the same argument: "Interpol sounds too much like JD", therefore implying a model of imitation that points to a (supposed) lack of creativity. Plus they keep on saying it eternally. Although the influence of JD in Interpol is noticeable, it isn't too deep and all-encompasing; just like JD with the punk genre in general. And without new wave who knows what we would have... but Interpol could perfectly exist.

Interpol are the best amongst the modern revivial post punk mediocricity. They don´t rate above Joy Division or Bauhaus, or The smiths at all. But they are very good
