im gonna but the hurst short shifter in my 2007 v6 and i was wondering if you need to remove the drive shaft all the way or can i just remove it at the front end and just let it hang down? Because i am not planning on replacing the drive shaft.
Another job well done guys! I think it's so nice of you to make these amazing videos for the average non mechanic...Or anyone for that matter. With your help, even I can do these installs. Keep up the good work guys!!
You did a No- No.. you should always wear safety glasses when using air tools, especially when removing the driveshaft as there could be bits of rust or metal shavings flying around. But over all a great video and install presentation. Special note* removing the driveshaft isn't necessary for all aftermarket shifters in the S197 2005+ models, but using a Billet style shifter does require the removal of the driveshaft for the Hurst and Steeda models.
@DeeplyMovinU Thank you for the comment. We were shooting on-location at a friend's shop and forgot a few things. Always highly recommended to wear safety glasses.
these guys make good install vids. i watch these and just slap on my parts like a pro. mechanics are all rip offs. i had no experience working on my car watched these now i trust me more than anyone. except with body work.
@itchylopez did you have the problem some others were with vertical lift on the handle when its in neutral? i have heard some horror stories with vibration and whatnot for the 2007 GT's. im nervous about putting it in mine because i dont want to have that problem
On my 2000 V6, the shifter isn't independent from the gearbox; it sticks up and out of the tail of the transmission....how hard is it to install a short throw on mine?
Maybe its just the 05's and up. But I didnt have to remove the driveshaft and drop my shifter in my 03 GT. It was all in cab remove and install. I also have the Tri-Ax Shifter, worth every penny.
an impact gun is not the procedure for removing the flange yoke. a special tool is required for holding it while you remove the nut so you do not damage the transmission or differential when removing it.
pure sweetness, as always... and much easier to put that shifter in with the shaft out.. i think you need to try it without removing the shaft now! lol man i want one of those Leonard Racing SpyderShaft aluminum drive shafts....
Thanks for watching! There's no balancing needed, but I believe it came pre-balanced. If you look at around 0:32 in this episode you can see what I believe is a counter-weight welded onto it.
Good luck... I'm won't drive anything but a truck, personally, but that's because I have more fun building them up than a car. But working on muscle cars are a lot of fun too--squeezing more power out of them like we do on the show!
If I was that car id be like "Why are you taking off my nuts bro?"

I can assume the drive shaft you installed can be used on an automatic mustang as well?
Terreos 1 year ago
@Terreos I would assume so, but it's best to check with the manufacturer of the drive shaft.

Why didn't you go with a carbon fiber driveshaft? PST out of Florida makes them and I'm sure plenty other companies do the same.

gtrmn355 1 year ago
@gtrmn355 Sounds like it allows for a much easier install! For the S197 it's required unfortunately!
motorztv 1 year ago
@motorztv not for the roush short throw i didnt have to drop mine at all it was a pain to pull it around the driveshaft but it isnt required
TheMcKibbin 1 year ago
@gtrmn355 I installed a Hurst Short throw shifter and I didnt have to remove my driveshaft to install the shifter. With a little finesse it fits!

dont you need an adjustable upper control arm with that drive shaft?
