  • If I was that car id be like "Why are you taking off my nuts bro?"

  • im gonna but the hurst short shifter in my 2007 v6 and i was wondering if you need to remove the drive shaft all the way or can i just remove it at the front end and just let it hang down? Because i am not planning on replacing the drive shaft.

  • @Spartan193069 It is possible to install the shifter without removing the drive shaft.

  • @motorztv Thanks so much for the fast reply and the good news!

  • @motorztv what was that red liquid you put on the bolts and stuff called?

  • @S3cK5hun8 Loctite

  • whats the best price I can the drive shaft for.?

  • how do you like the tri-ax?

  • @wonderbreadkw We love it. In fact we're about to install another one in the grabber orange Mustang!

  • I'd gladly let you upgrade my 2011 5.0 and post the vids!

  • Another job well done guys! I think it's so nice of you to make these amazing videos for the average non mechanic...Or anyone for that matter. With your help, even I can do these installs. Keep up the good work guys!!

    -Chris

  • @IrishChris1979 Thanks IrishChris! -Chris

  • @moterztv will those jba shorty headers work on my 08 4.6 f150

  • I can assume the drive shaft you installed can be used on an automatic mustang as well?

  • @Terreos I would assume so, but it's best to check with the manufacturer of the drive shaft.

  • You did a No- No.. you should always wear safety glasses when using air tools, especially when removing the driveshaft as there could be bits of rust or metal shavings flying around. But over all a great video and install presentation. Special note* removing the driveshaft isn't necessary for all aftermarket shifters in the S197 2005+ models, but using a Billet style shifter does require the removal of the driveshaft for the Hurst and Steeda models.

  • @DeeplyMovinU Thank you for the comment. We were shooting on-location at a friend's shop and forgot a few things. Always highly recommended to wear safety glasses.

  • these guys make good install vids. i watch these and just slap on my parts like a pro. mechanics are all rip offs. i had no experience working on my car watched these now i trust me more than anyone. except with body work.

  • @MrCpe9775 Thank you very much for the great comment! I've added it to the site :) -Chris

  • Great explanation!

  • Good video I just change mine. I have a 2007 mustang gt I put a Hurst short shifter.

  • @itchylopez did you have the problem some others were with vertical lift on the handle when its in neutral? i have heard some horror stories with vibration and whatnot for the 2007 GT's. im nervous about putting it in mine because i dont want to have that problem

  • @mwp19933

little vib but nothing else, u will like it.

  • @mwp19933

I put about 100 miles and did not have no problem I like it .

  • Thanks. It's very helpful

  • On my 2000 V6, the shifter isn't independent from the gearbox; it sticks up and out of the tail of the transmission....how hard is it to install a short throw on mine?

  • Why didn't you go with a carbon fiber driveshaft? PST out of Florida makes them and I'm sure plenty other companies do the same.

  • Maybe its just the 05's and up. But I didnt have to remove the driveshaft and drop my shifter in my 03 GT. It was all in cab remove and install. I also have the Tri-Ax Shifter, worth every penny.

  • @gtrmn355 Sounds like it allows for a much easier install! For the S197 it's required unfortunately!

  • @motorztv not for the roush short throw i didnt have to drop mine at all it was a pain to pull it around the driveshaft but it isnt required

  • @gtrmn355 I installed a Hurst Short throw shifter and I didnt have to remove my driveshaft to install the shifter. With a little finesse it fits!

  • dont you need an adjustable upper control arm with that drive shaft?

  • an impact gun is not the procedure for removing the flange yoke. a special tool is required for holding it while you remove the nut so you do not damage the transmission or differential when removing it.

  • good job bro

  • Why are all of the bolts metric on an American car?

  • Most or all modern cars these days use Metric.

  • @thetvirus because there not really as American as u think

  • You guys came to Vegas?!?

Hit me up the next time you here! lol.

  • pure sweetness, as always... and much easier to put that shifter in with the shaft out.. i think you need to try it without removing the shaft now! lol man i want one of those Leonard Racing SpyderShaft aluminum drive shafts....

  • perfect works , con super efficenza

  • nice vid but it would be cool if you could work on a variety of different cars if its possible if not its ok

  • awesome episode Chris! keep them coming!

  • Thanks! I appreciate you taking the time to watch it!

  • btw, is it your mustang?

  • No, this is Jason's

  • awesome car. are u going to instal a supercharger :D?

  • Working on a blower or a turbo...

  • Thanks, another round of good tut video :)

  • Thanks for the feedback!

  • Bloopers at 9:14 -- don't miss me messing up and being an idiot at the end (tribute to Transformers 2 movie)

  • ...and "On a boat" from The Lonely Island at 9:31 those are shorty headers LOL

  • Isn't it required to balance the drive shaft too, or is that just on older cars?

  • Thanks for watching! There's no balancing needed, but I believe it came pre-balanced. If you look at around 0:32 in this episode you can see what I believe is a counter-weight welded onto it.

  • Now I know what I want for my 16th birthday D:

  • You have a Mustang at age 16? Luuuuucky!

  • Not yet but I wish :D Im deciding for a truck or car its hard when your choosing your first car

  • Good luck... I'm won't drive anything but a truck, personally, but that's because I have more fun building them up than a car. But working on muscle cars are a lot of fun too--squeezing more power out of them like we do on the show!

  • Lmao your videos are awsome!!!!!

  • No, YOU are awesome!!! :) Thanks for the feedback!!

  • NP!!!!

  • great video

  • Thank you!
