Once you've been devirginized by albums like Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, and Reign in Blood, NOTHING is going to seem "as good as the old shit". It's what we grew up on, and what got us into Slayer in the first place. That said, the new shit IS really good. Diabolus sucked, but the rest of the albums post Reign in Blood have been strong, and in unique ways. They have varied enough over the years to remain relevant, but still remained true to their roots. Very few bands can say that.

First, studio doesn't mean anything. If you can't play it live and make it killer, then what's the point? This era of Slayer just lacks the true power of what they could do. Kerry King ruined this band. Jeff Hanneman is where the real power of the riffs are.

Nothing lasts forever. Call it a day and leave while on top. No band is good after 25 years. Many of my personal favorites like Maiden for example, need to hang up the towel. Do a reunion tour every 5 years and keep your past something to be proud of.
