Memories? Yes, the best. The grape arbor out back on a hot summer day with a cold pitcher. Joe. Friends and laughing. Joe. Endless hours of shuffle board. Joe. The Mystery Sandwich. Joe. I graduated from Steel Valley HS in '75. Joe allowed a few of my buddies and me to have an occasional under-age-beer or two out back during that summer. Great guy. "JOE, IF THEY HAVE YOUTUBE IN HEAVEN AND YOU READ THIS ..... THANK YOU."
@burgh58 I was born in Homestead hospital, and family lived in Munhall. I haven't been back since I was in 15 in 1983, but I remember my uncle taking me there while he had a beer at Chiodos. If you haven't read Art Rooney Jr.'s book about his family and the Steelers, you have to buy it. He wrote about Joe in it. Wish I could have had a beer at Chiodos before he passed.
@privateclem When my buddies and me were in our late teens, we had gained Joe's trust, Joe would serve us our under-age beers inside the bar at that time but, he kept an eye on us and kept us out of trouble. He didn't hesitate to teach us how to drink and be gentlemen at the same time. These were lessons learned through Joe's advice that I've been carrying till this day.
Oh my gosh, I am so homesick now. My dad took me there for my first (legal) beer and a mystery sandwich - and a plate of halushki. My sister's first engagement ring was up there somewhere in all the memories too...
Joe, you were the consummate gentleman and host. You WERE Chiodo's! Great memories... God bless you forever in His presence. Jim Wilson & The Professor
Great job Tony. I miss the place and all the people.

The mean-spirited remark was entirely unnecessary.
