@CatsAreGods i think it's not that simple. there are cases where a robber falls in through a sky light window and sues the owner. also, in many cases, the owner is allowed to attack a thief only within "reasonable force", so for instance, breaking the robber's arm is ok, but killing him, and the owner will be in big trouble.

@J0kerofHearts Your first example is a burglary, not a robbery, and you're talking about liability, not self-defense. And "reasonable force" means if someone tries to rob you "strongarm" (i.e. without a weapon), you can't automatically use lethal force to defend yourself. OTOH if the robber has a weapon or you are in fear of your life, you are generally allowed to use lethal force to defend yourself...if not...MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE!

@PipeClayRut Yes I do. And wouldn't you know it, Switzerland has the lowest violent crime rate in Europe and the world probably too. My brother came home from the gun show the other day ( i love gun shows, you can just haggle the price on anything) with a Swiss K 31 carbine. Boy those rifles are just plain accurate,we got to the point where we were shooting specks of white debris on the berm at 100 yards. It was literally harder to miss than it was to hit with that rifle.
