I had a mindgame where I was playing against an Ike with my own Ike, and I threw a spring at him while he was doing his Quick Draw. It him him, and he bounced on it. Then he used Quick Draw in the air and fell off the stage. This was in Smashville.

Ganondorf understands that Mario was using the cape to change the direction of the bat swing. So he figures if he faces the wrong direction to start with, Mario will cape him in the right direction. Mario didn't pay great attention to Ganondorf's direction and he acted on reflex. that got him whacked

as you've said, there's the possibility that Mario could've stopped using cape. irrelevant. when your mind's on a certain path, you don't get off that path unless you sense the exact cause of failure. manipulation is about figuring out what mental page your opponent is on and staying on it.

to call what Ganondorf did luck is just incorrect

to do it, he would've had to complicate his conditions. using mental stamina is like using RAM; the more complex your conditions, the harder it is to function smoothly. so players use simple conditions.

the condition for Mario's cape was Ganondorf swing, or prediction of one. there was nothing else to it.

it doesn't make him stupid for setting simple conditions; just not as careful as he could've been.

mind games aren't luck; they're skill. they, like many things in life, have ELEMENTS of luck, but are mostly skill.

If an untrained fighter were to KO a trained black belt, that might be luck but it's still amazing. Give them their props, don't fucking take it away from them

there's elements of luck even in things that are entirely skill, because it's dependent upon ACTIONS. absense of luck doesnt mean "lose to better player"; one has to win while another loses. that is dependent upon actions, not skill.

Being owned isn't a mistake. you say "mistake" as if a person is dumb if he gets tricked. you'll always be tricked.

and YES, it IS something you can always rely on. that's how games are won, that's how comebacks are made.

They're unpredictable, it's all based on reflexes and thought. Mario didn't expect his enemy to be so sly, so obviously he caped Ganon whenever he used the baseball bat, but Ganon suddenly had the idea to kill Mario by doing the attack again, to the left.
