Does anyone know the measurements of the Kahr PM40’s dovetails? I want to install Truglo TFO sights on my pistol. They do not make them for Kahr, but they do make them for other dovetail sight pistols. Does anyone know another pistol that would have dovetails that would be close to Kahr? Thanks.
Thnx, nice review on a great gun. My only disagreement is your complaint about the xtra mag. It's true that the 5 round mag is better for concealment. BUT, in the rare event that u need to reload, why is the longer mag a problem? At that point, concealment is not an issue, and neither is the "big glob" hanging out of the grip. I want all the rnds I can get - that one extra rnd might be the one that saves your life! So sure, I'll carry with the little mag, but ALL my xtras will be hicaps!
I have had my pm40 for about 3 years at least. At first I was not happy with it. The small gun with a large caliber bullet in it must be held very firmly. The inertia must remain in the gun. After many years of Bullseye shooting. I discovered that limpwristing a small gun with a large caliber round does not work well. After learning to hang on firmly I found the PM40 to be a very reliable and accurate gun. If you want to learn the gun, then get one. Can't go wrong.

I have had my pm40 for about 3 years at least. At first I was not happy with it. Failure to feed and not go into full battery after a shot or two. After sending it back to the factory I began to research the gun. Here is what I found out.
The mag follower had a few weaknesses in it. They were pretty much resolved by the factory and new followers were sent out to many of the owners.
The most profound advice given to me, which should be given to all Kahr owners, is that it is a small gun with
Yea, I like the idea of a longer second magazine. If you get to the point of having to use it your worries of concealability are long behind you. Just be happy that you're still able to shoot back and now you have an extra round. Oh, and the longer mag will be easier to seat! :)
Shot 100 rounds through it - flawless. Shot it again 15 rounds, got my first stove pipe and now, after clearing the round, it will no longer slide back properly. Finally took it apart, and looked really hard and found nothing unusual or broken. Put it back together again, and it still will not function properly. Sending it back to the factory.
If you are going to do an unbiased review, forget about your own prefs. We know the .40 is not a .45, and we know the 9mm is not a .45. Every polymer pistol is not a "Glock knock-off." Kahr has 7 patents that Glock never thought of, so it can't be a knock-off. Be a little more objective.
my pm40 also does not easily release clip. When new I only got the 5 round clip. Mainly however, I jams very very very often and the factory says it is my fault. I am no tactical Tim, but I own 14 pistols and this is the only one I have had trouble with. It is accurate but JAMS. Jams with there (3) different brands of ammo. Also, my one clip broke b4 my first 300 rounds.
that giant plastic glob as you refured to it is to give you a better grip. Its intended to be carried as a backup to the more ergonomic 5 shot magazine since it is very easy to conceal loose magazines its not really a issue. There are quite a few police officers who now carry high cap 15(usually 1911), 20, and even 30 round mags for service pistols as backups since despite there large size they are easy to carry vertically on you person with the shorter more ergonomic low cap mags in the gun.
The extended mag was a bit too long for concealed carry, and stuck out while on my ankle. I really like the pistol though, I find it as accurate as our duty weapon which is a Glock 22. It does kick alot but I haven't had problems loosing my grip on it. I also carry a KELTEC P3AT .380 in my front pocket, I can get it on target but it is nowhere as accurate as the PM40.
I have had a PM40 a while now. I love it. Super accurate and concealable. I carry it on my ankle everyday at work as a backup. I did not like the extended mag and called Kahr, they exchanged it for free they were very easy to deal with.
As a huge Kahr fan, there are things to say! First great video, second with Kahrs you are not suppose to rack the slide, it even says that in the manual. They are supper tight guns and need a lot of tender love and care. As stated the extended mag is not for carry, in fact I would say that it is for the range and as your back up mag. These guns are by far the closest thing to perfect for conceal carry.
The second mag holds one more round and thus is longer. Its not a concealment issue because that's your "reload" mag and would be in a mag pouch. You would use the flush fit mag to keep the butt short and concealment high. So I didn't agree with that comment on the mag because, again, its your reload mag. If you need your reload mag you are obviously in a firefight and who cares about concealing it at that point or an extra inch of mag sticking out the bottom? Nice review though.
Nice review. I have the PM9, and have thought about getting the PM40 for the bigger punch (but one fewer round). My dad has the PM45, and I think the gun (particularly the length of the grip) is much bigger. I've heard the magazine fit (extending past the bottom of the grip) is on purpose so that if you have a mag that is stuck because of a jam, you can get a grip on the mag and will be more able to pull it out.
@21stOPFOR I have one, and the mag release is a little different. It sticks a little, but once you know how to use it well, it is just second nature. Looks similar to a glock, but feels and operates alot tighter. I love it, and am very confident in it.
I carry the P40. Another .5 inch on the barrel, and another full finger on the grip. The extra length on the grip helps considerably with the kick,as well as the slight extra weight with the longer barrel. My mags are 6 and 7 round. That plastic glob you mentioned, is present on my 7rnd mag. I would imagine the extra glob on the PM40 mag wold help with stability, as a place for your pinkie. I carry at the 4 o'clock IWB with the 6 rnd mag in the gun. My mag holster carrys my 7rnd mags. Love it
I would like to see you use a rest mounted on a bench for your accuracy tests. It just seems to be a better , takes more of the human factor out of the test.
I have this gun and I love it. I jokingly say that it is what happend when I left my Glock G-30 and my Colt 45 in a dark drawer together for a few days.
Seriously though I use this as a back up gun for my Glock G-30 and I love it.
as you can see, interestingly enough, you're a douche bag.

When will people start calling magazines by their rightful name? I get so sick of hearing "clip." By any token, good gun review!

That bad magazine release 4:22 is something that will get you killed in a gunfight. Avoid the Kahr like the plague.

Other than the Sig Sauer P250, Kahr has the best DAO trigger. Very smooth and great let up. I prefer the CW series myself.
