@MondoBeno The BASIC premise is factual, but thats about it. Its hard to ignore the characterization of certain characters and sides. Put it this way: Russians and Poles generally do NOT like each other. Historically they've both done some terrible things. The division is made worse by the Poles being Catholic and the Russians being Orthodox. Of course each side says the other has been worse, but there you are. Let that be your guide as to how fairly a Russian movie will present Polish villains.

@diablisko666 as a matter a fact there were; Lithuanian's, Swede's and mostly by the Mongol's. Mongol's conquered Russia for couple of centuries. The Dark Times came about because of Ivan "The Terrible". He cilled his eldest son and his other younger son wasn't fit up to it, supposedly low IQ, but ruled for 14 years. After he died, the Dark Times came. No direct heir to the throne, bunch of prince nobles from various countries fought for the throne.

@swegricht did they take Moscow (for how long)? I think (not sure) Swedes and Lithuanians didnt, but Mongols did- they razed even Cracow and other Polish cities in 13th century. Polish hetman took Moscow but i dont think he could spread his rule over Russia, probably just small part. It wasnt any big army, but they had Hussars as a major force. And of course Napoleon, but that was short victory.
