I played with the SWC Wisconsin Honors Band with three other euphoniums, and we did nearly as good as this with only ONE meeting with the whole band, the day of the concert. (73ppl) And I tell you, that Euph solo 18 after C is pretty tricky, and there was a guy from a different school who just SPARKLED on that thing, and he had JUST received the music that day. I lament going to regular band, SO SO very much now. Everyone at honors was very attentive, it was the greatest experience of my life.
There were 6 rivaling schools combined with music. The band consisted of 10 flutes, 3 oboes, 9 clarinets, 3 bass clarinets, 1 bassoon, 6 alto saxes, 2 tenor saxes, 2 bari saxes, 9 trumpets, 4 french horns, 6 trombones, 4 euphoniums, 6 tubas, 7 percussionists. The songs we played were Abracadabra by Frank Ticheli, Rain by Brian Balmages, Caribbean Rondo by Pierre La Plante, Pentland Hills by Jimmy Howe, Song for Lyndsay by Andrew Boysen Jr, The Sousa Scramble by John Philip Sousa arr. Paul Murtha
don't get me wrong, i love this song... but where in God's name is the solo Bb clarinet part? i can't hear it at all! (our band played this last year as well, and i played that part... i'm a little disappointed not to hear it in your band.)
I was in the Michigan All-State Band this year, must say, we were approximately 300 times better.
