  • Cooney is so cute with his little stick of banana and juice box.

  • you talking about cooney?

  • who r you talking about i think your just stupid

  • Giiina! I love their drinks. I didn't know they sold them in big bottles and pouches too? we only get the skinny cans here.

  • Despite what I read in some comments, the Filipinos do have some interesting historical facts..-- for example: Magellan's Cross was planted by the Spanish and Portuguese in Cebu City when they arrived in April 21, 1521. Its still there, though only a replica stands in front of City Hall; The real one is inside of a box, within a small chapel nearby to preserve what already has been chipped. The language also conjugates from many different other languages.-

  • Oh, and the oldest standing college in all of Asia is in Cebu City. It was established in 1595 by the Jesuits. Its The University of San Carlos. You should read about your own culture before making such stupid blanket statements about hating it. I'm only saying this because it's MY culture. I've heard too many Filipino Americans make such blanket statements of saying how crappy their culture is. I don't believe that at all. Filipinos have grown to have such an Americanized perspective. Sad.

  • @OneThousandBones I think Filipinos are hispanic people who want to be asian :D

  • r u the one in NHK?? hehehe

  • hahaha puto in spanish thats a bad word know i can say it without getting into trouble "you want to eat some puto" lol

  • Can't be that bad :) ( im scared)

  • I wonder if cooney lived in the hudson valley thats where i was from

  • Far worse... Long Island. *Shudders*

  • @tokyocooney Please! that should be "Long Island dahling!" :) Love your work!

  • @tokyocooney Please! that should read "Long Island, Dahling!" One must represent the Island correctly :) Love your work!

  • No culture is completely 100% original. All cultures mix, whether now, or at some point in the past. Things get incorporated, and that then becomes part of the culture. Filipino's have culture.. lol. It's certainly a lot different at my girlfriends house, than it is at my own...

  • you want some "puto"? lol

  • Hahaha! The real puto. LOL

  • Bad singing + Food on a stick + public drunkeness! Now that's paradise! jive in!!

  • lol, its pronounced Gee-nah not Ge-na

  • pork blood and rice muffins are delicious

  • brilliant!!!

  • Nice. I wish they had one in Nagoya...

  • wow! this video is amazing! cant wait to join in one day!

  • If you want good safe Filipino food, get Lumpia, Pansit, Adobo or something. Anything with Ube (it's purple) in it is good.

  • I miss the Philippines now.. and the street foods. lol I'm so gonna get them when I fly back home in May. *excited*

  • thats cuz u fil-ams r oblivious to ture filipino culture...u only know about the colonial version

  • tokyocooney....were you the guy who sent anthony bourdain a fan video (for that episode they had on his show "no reservations") for fans to try to convince anthony to tour a certain place. I think it was you!!!!!! In that video you were actually trying to convince him to go to tokyo but you were standing on an actual dumpsite. that was lame, by the way. tony thought so too. lol.

  • filipinos are everywhere, you cant miss us!haha, someone who speaks japanese and tagalog?wonder what their accents like?

    *filipino walks up to mexican*

    "hey, you want some puto?"

    "whatchu say dog eater?!"

"what?!(starts to cry)i meant you want some puto.not you want some, puto."

  • Kumakain rin naman ang manga Mexicano nang aso, diba?

  • Actually, Filipino's and japanese accents are mostly alike since both dialects are syllabic.

  • sana nanjan ako...

  • yes, tokyo has a considerable filipino population. the filipino community even has a website. forgot what it's called.

  • did the japanese racist you? one of my freinds felt sumtimes got racisted coz he is a foreigner what's more he had light brown hair. he couldnt get into some certain bars or entertainment place. and that he told me japanese racist foreigners especially fillipines, true?

  • Sooo true! LOL

Culture Festival = Bad singing + Food on a stick + public drunkeness! LOLOL

  • I really enjoyed this video.

    Keep up the good work.

  • Not sure whether anyone mentioned this, but the friend banana in Indonesian is called Pisang Goreng, and I think originated from Indonesia, though I'm not entirely sure.

Yeah... just some, cultural random info that I arbitrarily thought of whilst watching this.

    Looked like a fun-filled festival. :)

  • ADOBO ON A STICK?!!!

  • I love philipino food. It has flavor but not like Laos food.Laos food is perfect- I'm Laos. But funny enough I can't stand thai food. Too sweet, and heavy and I really don't like Thai curries. I love Indian food Vietnamese food.

  • Oh God what I'd do for some ensaymada right now.

  • Why didn't you try the dinuguan? It's only cooked pig's blood and surprises! (intestines, liver, etc.)

I think a ManilaCooney would be nice. You should visit! Just be sure NOT to get married during your stay, lol

  • u should try fried banana egg rolls

  • You should have look for the deserts. Filipinos make AWESOME deserts. Ube cake or Puto (not prostitute.. it's a steam cake). Polvoron is good to.

I don't like Filipino meat dishes~ to fried and to greasy. :O

Royal Orange is a good soda but the bottles are scary.

Philippines is kind of poor and the government is corrupt. You might have trouble if you don't have relatives or know people there. But there are some nice touristy areas to visit like Bagio and Barakai (sp?). Traffic sucks there.

  • It's spelled 'Boracay', just so you know and I've heard that Boracay isn't as nice as it once was anymore. It's too "commercialized" now, so they say.

  • Thanks. Yeah I went when I was 10 years old. Back then it was amazing. And the little huts were wonderful.

I think they were trying to turn it into Hawaii which is SO STUPID because part of the appeal was the little huts you could rent out.

I heard some complaining when they were constructing those hotel resort crap. Honestly, they should just tear it down. <.<; They'll make more money that way, imo.

  • I think food-on-a-sticks are easier to carry around during culture festivals than paper plates and such that's why it's ubiquitous during these events. I really love your vids!!

  • Ahh! Banana-Q (deep-fried bananas coated with caramelized sugar) That's what you were eating.. but it doesn't look as tasty as the usual banana-q ..I don't think it's coated with enough caramelized sugar. You should also try "Camote-Q", just as the same but sweet potato is used instead of banana.:)

  • 90% of my neighborhood is filipino. which is awesome since i can eat fresh pancit, chicken adobo, and pan de sal whever i feel like it.

  • I work with alot of filipinos...they always are cooking and trying to feed me..but I don't eat pork. So i can't eat like 90% of their food. Fruit salad and chicken adobo are my favorite filipino dishes. Nice people..different culture but overall nice people

  • my first experience was with a typhoon

  • puto means a bad word in spanish puto-bitch

  • it means asshole

  • yeah kinda

  • Phillipinescooney... no thanks.

  • Looks like the one we have here in Tampa Philfest. My girl is Philippino and I love the food and culture.

  • no you should have choosen Phillipe's for your sake you could get a huge house and a bunch of stuff for 600 bucks a month

  • It tastes sweet. We call it "Banana Q" like BBQ. Sometimes it's deep fried with brown sugar so it's really sweet and crunchy.

  • alot of flip food is made of pig blood. No kidding

  • stupid.only one food is made of pig's blood.DINUGUAN.

  • Really, are you sure? I went to a nice Fillipino restaurant once with a friend, and I remember several things on the menu being made of pig blood, or having sauces made from pig blood. I tried them and they were tasty - Is Dinuguan the thing that looks like brown tofu? Anyway, it was delicious!

  • Fillipino food is good. I used to live in Hawaii (till I moved last year T_T) and I have a lot of Asian friends about 20% of them are Fillipino friends. So everytime I stay at their house if their family cooks they cook traditional Fillipino foods and they're all really good (and I know it's authentic cause half of the parents are immigrants from the Phillipines). My favorite food is banana lumpia.

  • mmm.. grilled..

  • That wasn't bad singing, dude. It's all good!

Puto is very tasty. Oh! Try pan de sal and ensaymada. I love those!

  • thnx again for this great video

  • ahah

  • You've really never had a banana fritter before?

  • lmao only in japan i went to a culture festival and ended eating a rat or something guy told me after i bought it lol

  • I wanted to experience some Japanese festivals, but it looks like I'm going to Korea now... I'm sure they'll be just as fun. If I hit up a festival there I'll respond to this. Take it easy.

  • the banana on a stick is what filipinos call "banana cue" usually there's 3 bananas and they're covered in SO MUCH caramel :D

    filjap :D

  • I wanna go in one of those in Japan!! Wow u never had a banana fritter before. We make them at home!

I think u made the right choice with Tokyo - i think it's way better than living in Manila.

  • if its on a stick, it will always taste good xDD

  • Yay! Banana fritters! I'm surprised that that's the first time you had one of those. Cos it's so damn common where I live (I'm in Malaysia). Flour coated bananas deep fried... mmm...

  • This is what I do Mister Cooney: Once I get off work at Shoe Department making minimum wage I watch you eat stuff on youtube.

    It's a lose win.

    Awesome vids, man!

  • hehe

    "Puto" 1:51

I love how one word could mean something completely different in another language.

  • yep puto in filipino is : rice cake puto in spanish or somin: F word or somin

  • That's why it's always great when we get a Mexican dude at a Filipino party.

  • Uncle sounds like unco which means shit in Japanese. Also Wanko which is like a cute way to say cat makes me piss myself for wanker. Not that anyone gives a fuck but why not spread some useless info, fuck it.

  • No no my friend, these sorts of things are never useless. You never know when you might need to use a word or phrase like those. haha

  • Yay for food on a stick. :D

  • You put up a new video?

    And I missed it?!!

Note to self: check YouTube moAr!

  • I'm surprised that it looks like a regular summer weekend in Echo Park.

  • xD Except without the fountain and man made lake. :O

  • lol alot of your vids are food vids. xD

  • I hadn't realized there was such a large Filipino community in Tokyo. HappySlip did a few clips on her trip to the Philippines, which was pretty interesting. Fried banana and fruit juice...how DO you manage to stay slim?! (^_^)

  • filipinos (mostly women) make up 3rd largest ethnic minority in Japan....half of them r married to japanese men

  • Yeah, us british fry lots of things too xD

  • Those banana things are what we british call banana fritter and some of our chip shops sell them. theres also pineapple fritter and very rarely chocolate bar fritter (mars bar covered in batter anyone?)

  • Fried chocolate bars...good, but bad for you. Heck, anything fried is bad, but they all taste so good, even fruit.

  • no manilacooney? I like how u showed a diff culture, I wonder if they have any spanish speaking countries fests...

  • very interesting

  • tokyo cooney is king watched all your vids in like 4 days thanks alot i love tokyo keep up the good work.

  • wow

  • Puto...Mexican for "Man-whore" LOL! (I know in Japanise it's a rice cake). Go figure.

  • Actually it's 'rice cake' in Filipino, but now I'm curious as to what 'puto' means in Japanese...

  • there's no meaning in Japanese.. rice cake in japanese = we call it mochi .. and it's slimy. i really love it. ^^

  • hmm...when i saw mochi in that gaki no tsukai taiyaki video it looked kinda...stretchy. chewy in a way.

    whatever. still looked good :D

  • theres no "puto" in japanese

    but "butou" means dancing.

    also, "buta" is pig

  • okay, my comment's gone (sabtage?)

anyways, thanks for this vid cooney!

just the thought that there's also a festival for pinoys in tokyo makes me yearn for tokyo a lot more!!

  • Will u go to the Brasilian Carniaval in Asukasa? I think Japan is celebrating 100 years of migration between the two countries, if i;m not mistaken.

  • LOL, buy the PUTO!

  • I think the name cancuncooney has a nice ring to it.

  • thanx for nothing

  • Pinoy ako! Nice video also.
