No one gives her credit, but Kyung Wha Chung may be the first major Asian violinist not only to captivate the listeners, but the men as well. Just ask Charles Dutoit.
Oh My Goodness... I just decided I want this to be played at my funeral... in hopes that its enchanting yet haunting melody will raise me from the dead and let me live just long enough to hear this piece one last time! This is now my all time favorite solo piece of all time!!!!
This piece is so frantic and crazy..erattic..disturbed..and she really brings it to like...she was great in the first half when she was around 28 or so..and I think she is even better in the 2002 clip when she must have been around 54. Great Great Great musician and artist. weird composition though...it took me to the edge ALMOST to the point where I was like.."oh boy...wacky..forget this"..but it held back just enough that it kept my musical interest. Different and a bit, "out there".
Her violin seems to break in the first half. But very virtuosic, no doubt! I fell in love with her. I think Chung is the spirit behind South Korea's rise to being an economic tiger.

I love Kyung Wha Chung's playing but I think she has some problems with her pizzicatos. In the the earlier half with the young Chung, her first set of pizzicatos in 0:56 did not come out well and wasn't she supposed to perform that same set of pizzicatos in 3:52, instead, she played it with her bow instead of plucking. Anyone notice this?
Ms Chung was born in 1948. The first half of the video was, I believe, was filmed sometime between 1976 and 1977in NY. The second half was taken in 2002 in Korea.

Great performance!
I found another noteworthy performance (with better sound too), by Xiang Yu on youtube.

Thank you! I previously thought she was about 25 in the first half. She always has the magic to arouse my emotion, especially when I'm depressed.
Fantastic musician.
