I totally agree in some cases. There are still some great storytellers out there though that know what they want and are very involved in the music as well as the direction. Guillermo Del Torro is a great example of that. He kicks ass because he understands the feeling and characters. Plus uses CGI in such a way that it enhances the practical makeup. He doesn't go just full CGI, he wants that thing you can react to.

movies around that time had such a nice non-cynical quality to them. so when the horror would come to those characters the impact would be much greater. contrary to movies now(aka the remake) where the atmosphere is grim, everyobody is an a-hole so when the monsters comes in they are rather underwhelming since everybody is shit anyway.

@ladyschoice34 actually dudette... You should go back and watch it again, because at the end of Fright Night, Evil Ed is watching Charlie from (the now dead) Jerry Dandridge's old house. Charlie sees the eyes but dismisses it. So my kind lady, Evil was still alive, remember Peter takes the stake out of him after supposedly killing him. I have watched this flick a lot. I'm 36 years old, this movie came out when I was 10. Welcome to... Fright Night.... For real.

Fright Night is a classic. I grew up loving it, and I still do. But its camp. I like things like Twilight that play it straight. I actually think its braver to NOT put humor in there. And vampires don't have to be evil, iconic, or even eccentric. So I like both. But I like realistic vampires more then this.

@lazylammy I used to live in the UK and its not going to be easy to find this movie in your local high street as all the 2nd hand retailers such as Benos have gone out of business due tot he recession so my only advice is to get a video copy of it from ebay as the dvd version was not successfull due to very bad print.

Settle everyone about the remake. It isn't the mid 2000's anymore, people prefer a little bit of good in their horror movies these days. I'm sure there is something too look forward to in the remake, same as the Suspiria remake - studio's have finally realised how awful remakes often are (The Fog, One Missed Call) and TRY to make them alright. I dunno, the remake has a good cast at least - I'm keen.
