  • great as usual, feeling those blues, i apologise if you have heard this before, but you are actually a younger double of Terry Pratchett!

  • @richsabre Thanks very much...and no! Nobody has ever said that before

  • No many play "The blues" on a Country Guitar ! You did it well...I guess there is nothing like a real blues guitar...It only comes down to the player in the end..

    Cheers,

  • @Thebluesandme ...I'm not clever enough to make concessions to the guitar..I always play the same way.lol...Thanks very much

  • hell yeah that's what i call good music man

    peace from france

if u have ur songs in a better quality please tell me

reminds me the 70's/80's music even if i've only 19

and it's a dope sensation that i feel now

great music man, keep it up

  • @DiableRaide ...Merci bien. I don't really have anything of commercial quality.I'm glad you enjoy my playing though

  • @fendermac ok no doubt so it doesn't matter

the music is good it's the most important

i love music and i can say you can make some beautiful songs

keep it up because if u make others songs i think i'll enjoy them

    peace

  • @DiableRaide ..Thank you

  • Hi.... I think I hear a little echo here and I like it can you tell me what make and model echo you use please?

  • @Nickofaballooni ...No echo here.Amp reverb only - and a tiny amount of room I suppose

  • Simple but awesome, great feeling to it.

  • @Nickofaballooni ...Thanks very much indeed.

  • wow great playing! i just kinda zoned out the whole time, it felt like a flashback if ya know what i mean ;)

  • @SixStringSolid ...Lol...Must be my 'old school' sensibility. Thanks for dropping by and for the kind words.

  • Bloody hell nice playing! What amp are you playing through by the way?

  • @Metalhead001122 ...Thank you.It's a Boogie MkIV

  • another inspiring, powerful display of your incredible talent-thank you so much

  • @TwoTewToo ...Thank YOU

  • Whoa, Lord, that's some beautiful playing. Was spellbound. Well done.

  • @keithdavies100 ...You are very kind. Thanks very much.

  • good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @pabloabsi2 ...Thank you very much indeed

  • Wow! Who would've thought John Cleese could play the blues?

Just kidding, of course. You play quite well. Quite.

  • @KutWrite ....Hahahaha....I'll take 'quite' and thank you for it.

  • are those the original pickups? Great sounding blues!

  • @mattdaddy109 ...Thanks.Yup! Stock pickups

  • Hi Paul McCaffrey

First of all, thank you for these nice little videos, that I just discovered here on these pages, and the great way you play on them. Wish I can play like that one day :)

I have a Gretsch G5120 as well (and a standard '78 Telecaster for that matter) and I wonder if you have the standard Gretschbuckers on it. Your sound is so wonderful. And when you say "Boogie IV" do you mean you play on a Mesa Boogie?#

Thanks, and keep it bluesing and rocking!

    Jos

  • @keverbus ...Thanks very much.I've sent a message separately about the amp and so forth.

  • Some guys play the Blues as a "thing" and some guys ARE the Blues, you definitely fall in the last category, with such a fantastic Soul and feel, great tone in this guitar. enjoyed very much, God Bless,Vic.

  • @Jazzguts ...Somehow I missed this wonderful comment. Thanks so much Vic.

  • I have this same guitar and i was wondering if you knew how the spring in the wammy bar is supposed to be set? i feel like i messed it up when i a restringed. I'd much appreciate you advice.

    David

  • Everything fell apart when I changed strings too.Lol...apart from putting things back the right way round I'm not aware that there is any adjustment available. You should probably ask one of the Gretsch experts round these parts of which I'm not one I'm afraid.Sorry...

  • wow, really nice tone and feeling. I enjoyed the video very much

  • You're very kind...thank you

  • nice blues. I tuned in to get some info about the guitar, but ended up just enjoying the music. May I ask what amp you are using here?

  • Thanks so much...I'm playing straight into a Boogie MkIV.

  • Been researching the 5120's for a week now- you definatelky have the best youtube demos out there by far. You should get a commission from Gretsch.

Shine On You Crazy fendermac & thanks for the great sounds

  • Thanks for those kind words

  • Hey Paul, love the Gretsch!! Which string and guage are you using on that guitar? I just ordered one from my local shop. On my Gibson SG special I use Ernie Ball Classics .10, but thought the 5120 might sound better with something heavier.

    Again, great playing and tone!

    Cheers- J

  • Thanks very much...it would certainly sound better with heavier strings than I use which are 9-46.

  • ....d'Addario by the way.

  • Very nice, is the guitar stock and are you using any effects, and what amp are you using. WOW

  • Thanks.....Yes,no,Boogie MkIV

  • Thank u so much for yor help- Im looking at makeing a buy of a 5120 or 5122 do you have any caments on that. Im also trying to getaway from all the gadgets and I play Mesa to. With right guitar they sound really sweet.

  • I kinda like the single cut but the 5122 looks pretty cool - very George Harrison

  • Thank you for posting all the great videos, it's a pleasure to hear you play.

  • You're very kind.Thank you.

  • thats unreal. your wicked man.

  • You're very kind.Thank you.

  • I have never really been interested in Gretsch guitars until I heard this clip. Truly great tone you are getting there mate. Kind of a bit like an LP cross Tele bridge p/up sound when you are on the bridge p/up.

  • Thank you..I've said elsewhere I could never justify the cost of a US Gretsch but these Koreans are great value and great fun.

  • what backing track are you using?

  • A cd free with Guitarist Magazine in the UK about 12 years ago

  • Sounds like a Pink Floyd based backing track

  • I guess that's the feel they were going for.

  • first class playing my friend, today i played in a guitarshop the gretsch 5120, i dont know if i buy a 5120 or better a country gentleman or chet atkins nashville, but these guitar are 2000 euro more expensive and i dont know if it has worth to pay these more, your 5120 sounds fantastic and goes to my favourites, are you still happy with this guitar? best wishes and 5 ***** friedel

  • Thanks Friedel. The Korean Gretsches are fantastic value for money - I really like it.

  • Great performance!

I like good blues and good guitars (and good guitarplayers as well ;-) )

    5 of 5 Stars

    Greetings from Austria!

  • You're very kind.Thank you.

  • great video!

may i ask in what amp did you plug your guitar into?

  • Thanks so much...the amp is a small bodied Boogie MkIV.

  • Thanks for letting me hear the Gretsch taken in another directions than rockabilly. Don't get me wrong, I want the 5120 because I love rockabilly, but your Gilmour inspired improvisation on the Gretsch just shows how versatile the guitar really is!

  • Thanks very much...it's a great fun guitar to play in every way.

  • this is great. 5/5 stars, no question

  • Thank you very much indeed.

  • This man truly knows his Gretsch. It may be minor blues but that is some major league playing. 5*!

  • Very, very kind of you to say so...thank you.

  • faved this, it had to be done.

    5 stars

  • You're very kind.Thank you.

  • It's never a mistake Paul, it's an improvisation; a revelation! Nice one.. Cool tone too.

    Regards

    John

  • Praise indeed from a cool player like yourself. Thanks very much indeed.

  • sounds very good do you use an effectpedal

  • Thanks...guitar straight into the Boogie,no effects.

  • hi ! i have a 5120 too i find it's a very good looking guitar for the price, what do you think about the use of bigsby because of the floating bridge i find the guitar is hard to stay in tune ,i dont know if you have noticed that! what's you're opinion?thanks you!

  • Great Blues! Gretsch Electromatics are by far the best in their price range, in my opinion. I'm thinking about puchasing the 5120... It would be my first hollowbody. I love the prospect of having a guitar that can feedback like that, but does it ever become a problem?

  • I only play at home these days and it's never a problem for me.Rather think of it as a "feature" anyway.

  • shine on you crazy diamond?

  • Not quite...Quite close though.A Guitarist Mag backing track.

  • may i ask what do you do for a living?

nice playing and i'll say nothing about the guitar.. i love hollowbodies and gretsches but i could only afford an artcore (which is not that bad btw).

  • Thanks very much.I work in a bookshop.

  • good job!

Where did you get that jamtrack from?

    thx!

  • Thank you..it's from a cd given with Guitarist Magazine some years ago now.

  • Never thought of a Gretch for blues: Killer tone. I play to the same backing track with my Guild Bluesbird but compared to you I sound like I am playing wearing boxing gloves!!

  • Thanks so much. Will we see your Bluesbird in a video?I'm sure you sell yourself short.

  • i just love this and i see my face behind you

sweet friend paul.the most amazeing jazz man !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11 denise! xxx

  • And the hat of course...

  • Enjoyed your playing a lot :)

    Nice Tone and ideas!

I hope all those books on the back are guitar related!

  • Thank you very much. Most of the guitar related books are too big for these shelves.Lol

  • Holy jesus!

    Good playing.

And a very nice gitar indeed.

    I love it.

  • The Gretsch and I thank you.

  • your Gretsch is such a beauty! Also your playing! And is I like Pink Floyd, the Backingtrack and your playing just get me^^

    CP

  • Thanks very much.I'm afraid I'm a very bad teacher.Lol

  • super solo. bravo

  • Thank you very much.

  • electromatic?

  • Relatively inexpensive Korean Gretsch Electromatic 5120.

  • Love it, thanks! And a beauty of an axe you've got there...and is that a leopard hat hanging up there? I'll be over to 'borrow' it straight away! lol

    5stars and subbed/friended you as well :)

    Cheers,

    Joy

  • Thanks so much.I've just been writing on your page and will be back for more delights as soon as..

  • we're going to have to start calling you "Pink Paul". Sounds great, you definitly nailed that one!!!5*****

  • You should see me after I've run up some stairs...Purple Paul!lol. Thanks so much

  • Great to see you on such fine form with that gorgeous guitar... i really enjoyed this one... the others are right, very Floyd

  • Thanks very much indeed.

  • Fabulous sound and I agree with kokoro86 - it is reminiscent of the Floyd. That guitar looks a heavy beast - mind you don't have a manual handling injury! ;-)

  • Sounds lot like Pink Floyd, but then again, I've been known to be wrong...

  • It's not but it does-a bit.Thanks

  • Big fat tone with a big fat guitar. Wonderful! How many guitars do you have?

  • Big fat player.Hahahaha.....info coming separately.

  • Shine on, you crazy Gretsch!

  • Haha.Thanks...Good to see you.Hope all proceeding well.

  • SWEET! Great sound!

  • Thanks so much.

  • Really nice Paul! Now I'm going to have to try something in the key of Gretsch minor! 5*! -Derek

  • Thanks so much.Good to see you.

  • You're very kind.Thank you.

  • Hi Paul, i liked from the begining untill the end, as usual, and no need to say ; the guitar

    is awesome !!!

    Many-Greetings-KURT !!!

  • Thank you Kurt.Good to see you here.

  • Im thinking about getting that guitar. What do you think? I play a lot of blues and would use it for jazz band, but am worried it wont pull of the SRV style of playing I do

  • I wouldn't be so happy to gig it in terms of tuning stability and high fret access but they're good fun so give it a try.

  • Get new tuners?

  • Tuners are fine.Get the bridge pinned.

  • Im 15 and played for 3 1/2 years and dont know what that is. Plus what case do you suggest?

  • The bridge moves and if you get a repair man to put pins in it wil stay in tune better.I believe there is a Peavey case that fits

  • awesome guitar

  • Thanks man.

  • Paul thats a nice sounding guitar, great jam [Freddie]

  • Thanks so much for the kind words.

  • Great Paul!! Is That an Original Gretch???.. You gotta Play that Clean to get Those George Harrison Sounds... George was Great I Miss Him...I Choke up Thinkin about Him...Take Care............Carl

  • Korean 5120-relatively inexpensive.I ain't no Atkins,Setzer or Harrison I'm afraid.Good to see you here.

  • Cool! What a treat on Sunday evening here in Japan^^ Beers and Ciders on me =D

    lon

  • Great tone paul.

yep a touch of shine on in there, Keep em coming

  • Thanks very much indeed.

  • Nice Paul

They were all quick to pick up on Shine on you crazy diamond but I can hear simularities myself. Nice playing as usual

  • It's another of the Guitarist Mag tracks.I accept no responsibility.Lol.Thanks very much for the kind words.

  • paulie, is that a gretsch or schechter? sweet axe bro, you play it like a nasty ass lady!!!!! good job bro

    mark

  • Hahaha.I make no concession to the guitar!!I can only really do what I do.Thanks man.

  • Paul...stay with this guitar awhile...you are getting a great blues tone and enough rock to satisfy the rockers! Shine On You crazy Diamond backing track?

    ***** -O__O-

  • Variety is the spice of life.Similar chords initially I think but not right through.Thanks.

  • that guitar sounds sweet, nice playing

  • Sublime playing Paul...Great Music at the end of a long hard day!!!...BTW...Fair old collection of book's you have...Billy

  • Can't have too many books...thanks so much.

  • Thanks so much.

  • Slick, Savvy and Smoove playing there! Lovely guitar too.....

Very nice...you are making me want to do a vid like this! Are you getting ground loops? I heard a clicking like what you get from a tape echo. Doesn't matter....sounded boss!

  • No tape echo involved..some clicking of footswitches.Good to see you and thanks for the kind words.

  • Barkin' and salty! Thanks Paul! *****

  • Haha.Excellent.Thanks MrA.

  • Yep, I thought it was close from David G and his jazz band LOL and some of your riffs were inspired, but it's not ALL this tune chords. But I might be wrong ;-)

  • Most but not all...you're right.

  • Paul,

This jamin track reminds me a Pink Floyd Tune... May Mr Wright rest in peace! I still listen to their unbelievable records!

Thanks for this one, too I love your style and the gretsch a little overdriven like this.

    5 Stars for sure!!!

    Cheers mon Ami,

    Chris

  • The reason it remionds you of a Pink Floyd tune is becouse it is the chords from Shine On You Crazy Diamond! one of Floyds best songs ever!!

the backingtrack can be found on Gilmourish, com and is called Shine On Blues.....

  • Good to see you...Thanks very much.

  • Thanks so much Chris.I don't think it's quite "..Crazy Diamond" but prompen3 has a point.

  • You always keep your vids fresh and fun! Unusual camera angles and a wonderful sense

of spontaneity. A rare treat to have 2 vids

in one day. You look energized enough to do

what sportsmen call "a hat trick." (Don't know if that's an int'l coinage for 3 goals?) And you sure do have a tricky hat hanging there which prob has a story all its own. (I won't ask) ~Terry

  • Run out of time...maybe tomorrow. Thanks so much Terry.Always good to see you.

  • nice blues you always have the feeling...Great!! Sarah :-)

  • Thanks a million.Feeling it today.I enjoyed it

  • real biting tone from the gretsch-superb!

  • It likes a bit of distortion I think...and thank you.

  • You are cool MR Mac..excellent use of a 5120.
