I could literally watch hours of just these two goofing off; they've been the essence of the Chili Peppers since Mother's Milk. It's hard to pinpoint which of the members are most important in the group, because they all contribute something different; but really, Chad and Flea can not be replaced. As has already been mentioned, numerous times, they're both incredibly talented in their respective 'professions' if you will and RHCP without either of them would be... lackluster

Besides, there's more to music than just playing it. What you play isn't even as important as how you play it. RHCP's good at what they do, and they're the best at what they do, because nobody else does RHCP. Same way Louis Johnson is the best at what he does, because nobody else does Louis Johnson.

Great video, and sorry to be so random, but does anyone know the tuning of a 5-string bass? I figured it would be the same as your average bass, E, A, D, &G with an additional E like a guitar with one string removed, but when I went to try one out at the local Music & Arts, it appeared otherwise. Now was that standard tuning or just confused people screwing with it?

These guys truly are brilliant

The amazing thing about Chad is that it sounds extremely complex (and it is) but it's almost instinct. When I began drums I was doing basic rock beats and it was through listening to tons of RHCP that I subconsciously picked up on Chad's style, although I'm not as good as him, but people have told me that I play an "easier" version of his funky style. If you've noticed in Live RHCP shows, he changes up the drums to almost every song and it doesn't sound wrong.
