  • you don't have to deliberately jump with a single leg u know...

  • wow... para silang yobot!!!

  • tak cho!!!! shi bal!!! lol^^

  • thk..

  • I really want to smash with that KIND of sound. no matter how much force I exert I don't hear that whipping sound when i smash. :( help smashmaster

  • Comment removed

  • its ur dirty mind...

    lol!!!!!

  • awh!!i think his stroke is wrong!!and the way he moves!!

  • sighs y cant i do i both leg jump dis guy is just using right leg

  • if u think he smashes hard look at taufik hidayats smashes... hes backhand smash is like a frikiing cannon

  • say, what's that type of jump called, when he jumps and lands on one foot, and bends only one leg at 1:04?

  • it is called the one fooot slipt step...

  • damn those smashes sound gooood... =]

  • nice vids

  • My coach just stands in one position and tell me to hit the shuttle in my direction and he just make's me go up down left right .. i get fuckin tired and all i do is to hit the shuttle in his direction .. he stands and enjoy ! :( its so sad.. he doesn't teach me anythinnnnnng!!

  • at least ur coach does somthing with u . al we do is play doubles. there is noo coaching in my area

  • if u want 2 hv a loud smash put scotch tape on ur racket

but u will nd 2 use more strength against the air resistance

  • The shots weren't very far back though so it's gonna be an easy shot from there

  • *pump shotgun* BANG! XD

  • this is korean

  • every smash sounds like a slave getting whipped! damn!

  • @NaruIchiLuffy Smash sounds are easy if your just running for the sounds. Get the thinnest possible string like .64 and listen lols =))

  • he can smash hard l0l

  • when he smashed sound like firing some rifle from distances

  • wut fake noises

  • k wtf it was a joke take one!!!

  • lol robot man...

  • Omg!!! you guys SUCK!! i can doo that!!!!jeez well i am a profetionnal badm.player!! Lol

  • If they do suck. Then prove that your better then them. Your profile says your 13. Don't get to cocky of yourself.

  • He hops because he is trying to put all the momentum and power into the racket/ hitting arm. Its not just about your wrist and forearm, its mostly leg and trunk(abdomen) muscles that gives strength to your smashes.

  • why does the guy hop?! wth.

  • whenever I hit the birdie, I hit it to the middle of the court and then the opposing player can do anything they want with the birdie. Thats what messes me up

  • If you know what's wrong with your game, I'm sure you'll learn to incorporate it into the way you play. It'll come with experience. :)

  • can u speak english??

  • english please...

  • My main problem is reacting and returning smashes

Anytime I hit a clear, the other person will have a chance to smash it, and I won't be able to react at all.

I mean, I can see the bird flying towards my court clearly

It's just that my body cannot move and such.

    What should I do?

Right now, reacting to a smash is my main problem

..not learning how to do a smash :]]

  • I'm not super good, but from what my coach said, just get ready to expect, bend your knees and then you can just gently scoop it over. If you play doubles both do side side then bend your knees and keep your racket low.

  • Hmm, alright.

    Thanks dooodee.

How do I hit it? Backhand or fore?

  • I would forehand it since I just suck at back hand. But really I guess where ever the birdie seems to go then you'll see. Mainly just try to tap it gently back making a drop maybe if they're far enough from the net.

  • Alright, thanks. If the bird is flying fast and hard enough, can you just tap it with your racket

and it will fly over the net, landing to the very front

    ..you know, like a drop.

  • thanks for sharing

  • lol anytips for a 13 year old whos gonna join his elementary school's badminton team XD

  • yea b very cautios b smart on ur drop shots and make shure when u swing u dont let the racket go along with the ball its funny in til u find out the dude is in pain lol

  • Wow his smashes are like a whip going off!

  • You should really put subtitles in your videos smashmaster.

  • i know that would be good, but i dont have the time for that nor do i have the resources aviable to translate everything so if somebody else wants to then they can do that but i just dont have the time or resources to sorry. so its posted as is.

  • It's okay.=)Mostly I only need to see the actions.Don't really have to know what they're saying. Thanks for sharing those videos! =D

  • sound like bullet has been fired when he smash lol

  • so awesome.

  • nice video man

    thanks from johor malaysia

  • you kind of swing and flick your wrist at the same time

  • its not flicking your wrist, its under arm and body rotation

  • wow the impact of his smash is like amplified by the audio quality lol

  • I'm not sure if standing on one foot is such a good idea, I understand that you gotta put all the weight on the the leg farther from the net and then jump, rotate hip and transfer all the weight to your arm for a powerful smash, but standing on one foot does not necessarily puts more weight on your leg, personally I think it just makes you less balanced.

  • if u watch Zhao Jianhua's coaching, he said dat standing on only one foot is not the only way. But for myself, by reflex I always stand only on one foot before smashing. I don't know why - maybe because the body rotation and flow is better that way? (since if we stand on both feet, the body rotation when smashing will be a bit stiff?)

  • you have to put your left leg (if youre right handed) a bit more back so you are more balanced and you can get faster back. i didn´t understand a word in that vid cause im german^^

  • Hi Smashmaster, some questions on the way the Korean in the video smash.

Q1) How come before he smashes, he has to stand on one foot and lean backward?

Q2) i think his smash is quite powerful. Where does he get the power from? Is it from hip rotation / swing through / weight transfer since he leans backward?

Q3)I do not jump up at all when i smash. i wan to power up my smash. I think i am just using pure arm strength. How to improve that?

  • 1. i think its to create momentum with your upper body.

    2. think its the upper body twist, swing, and the momentum.

    3. try pushing yourself foward for the momentum.

  • smashmaster..how are you?ehehe

  • im good...how are you?

  • I would like to ask you a question because i have can't handle the racket properly during the smashes.I am forced to change it to an improper manner or else i can't play well. Can you give me some tips to correct this problem? It is weird as i get this problem only on smashes.

Thanks for your video and your answer.

  • thx for the reply smashmaster, it really helped me

  • Just one question, does the wrist have to be in play as well? All I see in this video was more of the arm actions..

My friends and I have debated about this, and we just agreed that it was personal preference.

  • its a combination of both your forearm pronating which in turn uses your wrist too because when you pronate your arm you are using your wrist to turn as well to generate that explosive power to cause the snap and transfer all that to the shuttle. so you are both right it is your forearm and wrist as well as other parts of your body to hit a hard smash.

  • hey could you tell me the reason why is my smash not so hard i follow the basic stance and position what's the problem

  • well it could be quite a few different things you might not be fully utilizing the right technique, your not pronating your arm fast enough to get that snap to generate power or your also not useing your body and weight transfer to get additional power. small things like that can really rob you of power.

  • That means boss that you're arms should be fast if you will recievea smash shot and one more thing to ak boss why is it that the range of my Bird if i will perform smash is so near to me I can't make it pass the net especialy when I'm so far from the net? Please answer this.

  • cant make it pass the net? you mean your always hitting it into the net? well either your hitting it to late or its not infront of you and your trying to force it down so its going into the net. would have to actually see what your doing to give you a complete answer on whats wrong.

  • Okay I'll try to make a video of that. According to your answer that it's late no maybe your another answer is the problem to me that i force to make it down but in performing a smash isn'nt it that you have to perform a downward stroke to perform a smash right? What should be my stroke? do i have to perform a stroke before it goes to me mean infornt of me it's not shown in your video only the position and you said the weight transfer.

  • you want to make contact when its infront of you but not to far infront of you if that makes sense like if i put my arm straight up with a racquet in it thats about where i woudl make contact with the shuttle for a clear, move it forward and my arm comes down a bit that would be a drop and a little further forward would be contact point for a smash. it might just be a contact issue or technique issue etc hard to say.

  • Okay for you to really answer my problem I will just upload my video is that okay but i will still follow your suggestion tnx.

  • yeah that would probally be the easier way to do it.

  • should the cock be in front of you or above the angle is downwards?

  • yes the shuttle should be infront of you so that you can make contact with it at a downward angle so that it travels down and not straight.

  • one question.what for a grip u use to smash?im usin this V grip now whereas u put ur thumb at the grip for more control.i know u use it for clears but is it the same for smashs.hoping for an answer.

  • the same grip thats used for a clear or drop, your basic forehand grip. so basically put the racquet in your non racquet hand and hold it so if you look down from the top you cant see the strings. next take you racquet hand and shake hands with the grip you should have a V that points to your opposite shoulder thats forehand grip and the grip that you use when you smash.

  • heyy, i dont understand korean. im going to the badminton districts and i cant do a proper smash: a fast one. any advice?

  • a fast smash comes from proper technique as well as using your body to add that power into your shot as well as you HAVE to get behind the shuttle. you should get your coach to check your technique and form and see what they say when you are preforming a smash.

  • ThAnX. u no alot ov badminton stuf. u play it right?

  • no problem, yes i am an active player on the national/provincial circuts and i coach as well.

  • can anyone help me?? I know now to smash but I still unsatisfied with its speed... how can i develop it? is it in where i hit the shuttlecock

on the racquet or what??... hopin' for response..

  • that will lead more so to technique and using your core and legs to generate power and speed from it. as well as when your pronating your arm. the more compact and explosive your swing the faster and harder your smash will be.

  • where part of my racquet should i hit the shuttle so that it will generate more speed and power?

  • hit it in the center of theracquet head aka the sweetspot

  • i thought it would be better at the upper part center..... now i see.. it's at the center.

    anyway, whats the difference?

  • when you hit a shot thats not off the center of your racquet you wont be able to get the same force put into it due to the fact of where its hit. the center of the racquet bed is the ideal place for hitting all your shots. if you hitt a shot off center and then in center you will notice a difference for sure its has to do with the string tension and all that being just right in the center of the racquet bed etx stuff like that.

  • and it works better with isometric racquets

  • yup thats what there designed for larger sweet spot as oppised to an oval racquet which has a smaller sweet spot.

  • i believe u got that info from yonex site?

  • yonex site? nope its general for all racquet manufactures and all racquet brands they all use that technology for those reasons of enlarging the hitting area.

  • oh i shee so ur a racquet manaufacture?

  • no im not, but im saying whenever you read about any racquets from any different brands if they have an iso they will probally say its to enlarge the hitting area or sweetspot. as well as stating all the other technology they put into their racquets.

  • oh i shee so i suppose u muz be a coach then

  • i am a coach yes but being a coach and knowing about what different technologies are in a racquet dont really corralate together.

  • well im nt sayin it does but im jus guessing maybe ur a coach

  • thats fine then didnt mean to be rude or anything about it. but yeah i do coach as well as play and train.

  • since ur a coach may i ask u question?how do i do a strong backhand smash?of cuz nt as strong as taufiks

  • 1st off you have to work on backhand shots and being able to clear cull court. after you can do that theres no differece in the swing all you change is the contact point of the shuttle so that it goes down instead of up. for the technique its more so like your whipping a wet towel at somebody, its really hard to just explain in words its easier to show a visual to theres a "how to backhand" video that should teach you the technique and then you just change the contact point so it will go down.

  • oh thx the same as wad my coach said wiping a towel as someone n i can already do backhand crosscourt lob

  • thats good so you have a pretty consistint backhand then so then you should already know about what angle of contact hits what shot and you just need to work on that. also make sure you dont follow through on your backhand that can hurt your shoulder over time. think theres a wall behind you and go up and stop at the wall, your racquet will follow through to hit the shot but its not like your whole arm following through. if that makes any sense.

  • speaking of that i have done a backhand smash but it was not intentionally i was doing a lob n when i tot it was going up instead it went down

  • yeah that has to do with where you make contact with the bird which determins ultimetly what shot you will end up playing. its the same contact points you use when your hitting a forehand except this tiem tis just on your backhand.

  • oh oh thx thx alot n im gonna subscribe to u now n btw im quite short so its like kinda hard for me to tap nar the net is there any ways or trainning to make my tap faster n lower?

  • no problem, i know quite a few short players but when you say tap at the net are you refering to a net kill? or a different shot?

  • erm a net kill like a push n goes completely down after awhile n slide all the way

  • alright yeah a net kill well basiclaly you want to brush the shot it does have to be above the net to an extent but you want to brush it in a ^ pattern so tha your racquet follows that and at the point would be where you make contact with the shuttle and your racquet angle has to be facing somewhat down or else it will go straight and out.

  • so i nid to like bend my racquet about like 30to 40 degres?

  • yeah about that should do the job.

  • oh ok thx alot again may we be friends?

  • no problem, yeah sure we can do that.

  • what i must do or any good training i must practice so that it will help to devlop my smash?

  • make sure that you get behind the shuttle, make sure that you make contact with the shuttle so that its a little infront of you and make sure that you use your body and turn your shoulders open them then rotate through to gain power that way. and just keep practicing.

  • can anyone help me?what about the hand position when we smash?is it we have to grip in the middle of the handle or slightly up or down a bit to get more power when we smash?thanks for any help..

  • if you hold the racquet at the bottom it will help you to generate more power but will subsedently have a lil less control likewise hold it at the top less power more control. for smashing you shoudl be holding the lower half of the handle wherever is comfortable

  • thanks, but how about if i want to smash and i want it go to certain places like the opponent is at the right and i want to smash the shuttle to the left..it will make the opponent hard to take the shuttle right??usually when i smash, the shuttle will go to far and sometimes it will go out from the line..is it bcoz of my footwork is wrong or my hand position at the handle is wrong??

  • more likley how your making contact with the shuttle, when your hitting it your probally hitting it to much to that side if that makes sense. when you want to go crosscourt you make contact in the direction you want it to go you might be over doing that just a bit causeing it to go out aka over pronating in a sense.

  • the footwork is correct =.= have u guys even been trained? these videos are sold as official badminton tutorials before ~~ but thats beside the fact...it is right. dont mislead ppl who watch this vid

  • footworks are wrong

  • wow ddude... his smashess are so powerful! and he doesn't even move much!

  • you know why? he smash at half the court.

  • true... +1

  • lol hu cares if his footwork is wrong look at his smashes...theyre like fucking cannons...=0 lol

  • what kind of racquet does that coach have?

  • looks like talbot torro... I believe it's a UK brand.

  • the foot work is wrong...so sad for thesse players

  • how can the footwork be wrong? it is the basic scissor kick.

  • on se moque de lui pdt tout le film mais aprés il met des putain de catchanes, con

  • wow

can you do the smash any other way? lol

  • man are they going to stay in that stupid position i mean the standard one before samshing god man they need to change their style

  • man it doesnt matter if theyre chinese, korean, danish or whatever. it's the PLAYER not their nationality

  • badminton is the best

  • it sounds so sexy...

  • Great video for basic smashing !

PS. The sound is greatly magnified as they are in a hall

  • shit i wish my smashes sound like that

  • if you want to, use BG-80 strings and use a feather birdie to make that sound. =P worked for me

  • cant we get power in smashing without jumping? As long one has the right body posture, position (foot/and angle of ball or trajectory),as well as the grip, then one can deliver the strong smash. Of course, it depends also how strong his arms is. One jumps when smashing in order to gain height in order to have a steep flight angle of the cock which is sometimes hard to retrieve.

  • jumping provides so much more power tho.. why not jump (the stronger ur arm, the stronger your smash anyway)

  • smashing hard comes from technique 1st then from muscles if you have string muscles it will aid it if you have bulky muscles then it will hamper you. you have to train your muscles for badminton to be explisove and aid you in a compact fast swing

  • so robotic haha

  • neoz u cant make a 450 smash then uve made world fastest smash!

  • neoz that bullshit of what u wrote

  • lol...

  • agreed!!!

  • I agree, Koreans are pretty terrible at badminton. No one good at badminton comes from Korea, they can only win their Korean Open tournaments because the line judges always cheat for their own players as shown when Lee Hyun vs Lin Dan in 2008.

  • No.. the koreans won the MD finals in the olympics in the year 2000.

  • yup agree and well look at the 2004 olympic mens singles they got to the finals there

  • can you explain how the koreans won 2 titles at the all england this year then? taking both mens doubles and womens doubles

  • hahah i agree comments suck, but 450? lolz

  • lol!

  • before you just flame it you might wanna actually knwo something abotu badminton and the different shots, nobody said it was a jump smash its a smash when using a scissor kick. thats why you jump off 1 foot and land on 1 foot. Your not trying to get insane height with a scissor kick either. what does it not being a jump smash and sucking completly have to do with eachother??

  • so if im dumb then how come provincial/national/international players from any country ALL use the scissor kick which is what there using here. Your the dumb one there not going for a height advantage there doing it to get power out of the core and legs so that they can smash harder. Im not feeling the way they teach the smash but its on the right track. Scissor kick is VERY useful you should go learn something about badminton 1st.

  • i would have to agree with you smashmaster jump and tilting is not just about height but transferring energy. When you tilt you use your weight to your advantage. The scissor kick also add more strength because you uses your ankle for a last burst of energy. The key to having a lot of power in a smash is how much power you put into it and because each body part has only so much power with its movements the more parts used to deliver the shot the more power

  • Nice One But Once i fought my coach and when he smashes i dont know how to hit it back.

  • omg i smash my fren and it hit him in the erm groin sry kenneth

  • basic common sense:

smash require the whole arm movement.

    smash require aiming

    smash is not a clear

smash is only performed when the bird is high(other then serving)

smash cannot be perform when foot work or positioning is wrong.

smash in overall, depends on how much strength(energy) you are able to transfer to the bird, ( from the arm to the racket to the bird
