your torchic's fire flast is very strong, and since it's holding a focus band and has good speed you can probably beat 1 or 2 pokemon with it, on the other hand torchic's terrible defense stat make it faint very easily
Torchic learns moves like Flamethrower and fire spin, as opposed to Combusken's fighting type moves and blaze kick. Torchic also has no fighting type weaknesses.

Even still, and evolved form can stand up to more powerful pokemon. And a good trainer would find a way to get by his pokemon's weaknesses.
