After I heard this, I checked out the original by Los Lobos. Their version is far superior to Plant's, but I never would have known about it had it not been for Robert Plant's version.
Who else does this washed up hack cover on his new album? He's as bad as Hollywood with no new original ideas left to offer anymore take him as he was, never deny that he and his mates have not inspired and influenced others, but enough is enough.
I appreciate that Plant has wanted to branch out in musical directions & even more so they don't want to mess with the Zeppelin legacy. But I will always wonder how an album with Plant, Jones, Page, & Bonham Jr. would have turned out, if not just a live one. The "Clarksdale" album had some really good tracks, especially Blue Train (& also Please Read the Letter) but lacked serious depth without the other two members IMO.
Appreciative to you Mr Plant, for influencing me and many alike to create and bring music back to the UK at local levels and scenes, a vibrant new enthusiasm is spawned ... It seems a new era is evolving from the past forests of man.
I LOVE IT! It's like some people are just discovering the amazing vocals and music of Robert Plant when he's been groovin' all along since Led Zep! I've got all his solo stuff and it just gets better and better! This is one of my favorite Los Lobos songs but Plant has made it his own just like he did with Darkness, Darkness!
Whatever he had back in the Zep daze...he's got it still and is just as sexy!!
Rob Plant is one of the last guys that still creates new stuff. He is the guy that never stops being real. I grew up with him and I have faded in and out of love with his music. However he has never re hashed like a bunch of his mates have. Long live Mr Robert Plant and hats off for keeping it real.
As a musician and 55 year-young Led Zeppelin fan since Page grabbed Plant from obscurity for "The New Yardbirds". This has a strong Zep influence. Of course but with heavy miking of percussion making for an interesting sound. The mandolin leaning on the pentatonic and Dorian helps balance out the instrumental sound. Of course it would all be for naught without Master Plant's ubiquitous vocal presence!
I really like the contrast between Darrell Scott's crystal-clear acoustic mandolin and Buddy Miller's bottom-heavy, slightly overdriven baritone electric guitar. Plant wasn't hyping when he talked about his band's "new groove" -- by the fall dates after the CD release, this bunch will be the best touring act out there, mark my words!
Sounds like something they salvaged from the 3rd or 4th Zeppelin album! So damn good!

Two of the most haunting beautiful voices.
Besides Michael Jackson, of course.
