a few bruises instay of a broken bodypart, so hard and hard, I won't say....My own Calimacil is just like a dream not to hard or soft...Its just works...and 'bout the scabbard part I total agree
@kingnikolaj : It's unfortunate, but a lot of people consider bruises as "getting hurt". As you can see from my video, I'm not exactly an imposing figure, but bruises are just a part of my day a lot of the time. If people would just suck it up, they'd get over it and it wouldn't be such a big deal.
@kingnikolaj : Are you talking about the blade? Or the stabbing tip? It's safe alright, it just hurts a lot. And the tip is not safe. While it won't penetrate the foam and actually stab someone, it's hard enough that it could cause internal damage if stabbed hard enough.
@BloodyArwendar : I'm guessing that's why they don't put them on. In the U.S. almost all groups allow stabbing because it's easily possible to make your own that have safe stabbing tips that don't puncture through the foam.
We have very advanced practicality foamsmithing techniques here.
@BloodyArwendar : We make them ourselves. It's VERY hard to find stab safe weapons that you can buy. The idea is to reinforce the foam that is around the end of the core, and use an open cell foam. The closed cell foam will eventually fail (depending on amount of use, but mine have lasted multiple years with at least 30 fights a year), but it gets stopped by both soft open cell foam and a cloth covering that stops it from actually causing any injury before it is noticed.
@oliskranz : Basically, though the sport isn't limited to vikings, and is only based on actual swordfighting. Our members don't have the money to invest in actual steel armor and weapons for recreating and using full contact fighting tecniques using steel weapons, so we use hand-made padded ones instead, with fiberglass rod cores. They are lighter and easier to use, but don't require expensive armor. It's faster paced and less expensive.
@oliskranz : Probably not, but you can start your own group! All you need to do is read up on Dagorhir rules on the website, get some people to join in, and follow the process to becoming an official group. And you've got yourself a wicked fun thing to do with your spare time.
@thickmetallover : It's actually quite nice, good for sparring without having to wear padding, and they last quite a while, and look realistic as well.
It's great to finally see a proper review of a Calimacil weapon. I myself have been thinking of purchasing one, either the Viking Warlord Sword or the Knight of Emerald Sword. Great review! :)
@dagwyn : Thank you very much, I had noticed that there was very few actually done, which was surprising to me seeing how popular they are.The viking warlord sword is nice, and I can say the the Emerald is alright in terms of handling, as I have one that's similar. The only "problem" with their weapons is that they aren't as light as a home-made fiberglass weapons, simply because their foam is so dense. I have two more weapons from them, that I'll review soon. Keep a lookout!
Nice vid'. I had the same troubla as you with my scabbard, I hate when it doesn't stop moving will running, everything. But I found a trick, like, try to attach your scabbard on your belt with hard leather. I would have done a video but I gift mine (the hard leather parts) to my friend because I wasn't using my scabbard (katanas one) anymore and he just broke them. But it was working well. :) (Sorry for my english mistakes)
@Fell1208 : Yeahhh, I thought something like that might work, but I haven't tried it myself. Shame about the broken scabbards though. (lol, I understood well enough.)
nice review but i always crack up when i watch a video with the youtube transcribe audio captions they're so inaccurate lol!

safty first overall, as we say in Denmark

@kingnikolaj : That's a golden standard here in the U.S. as well.

I was really surprised when you mentioned a stabbing tip.
Most European larp groups don't even allow stabbing because the core might tear through the foam.

@Halofreakanoid Really? Then where do you get stab-safe weapons? Or do you make them yourself?

also, that sword can take a FUCKING LOAD of punishment

@muldmike : Yes it can. It's still in perfect working order. Though the hard foam rope has come off in some places. It's not a big deal though
