I have the "colorized" version of Dark Passage, it is great.
Some people complain about colorized movies, what they don't realise is that the young people refuse to watch b/w movies, so that in time these movies will be lost forever
I always get a kick out of so-called movie experts who think B&W movies were some sort of art form back then. If quality color film and processing methods had existed at the time, you can bet these "artists" would have made them in color. Get over yourselves, people. The only reason the "look better" in B&W today is because that's how we all first saw them.
I prefer black and white but I always find it interesting to see these films in color. Cuz there are somethings from like the 50's and 60's that had horrible color schemes in the first place. It's just cool to have an idea of what the actors were actually looking at and wearing.
Contrary to what one commenter and imdb assert, it is NOT Jo Stafford singing "Too Marvelous for Words." Don't know who the chanteuse is, but anyone who knows Jo's voice knows that this is not it. She did, though, record the song for Capitol Records 10/22/43.
boggie and bacall. who else can give us more? I can´t explain it rationally, but there is magic in the screen. I think it is unfair that people don´t know this movie, unless in my country. superb!
i think it's a beautiful film no matter what the format is (Thanks to the Bogarts & Mr. Hawks)..but Black and White is what I'm used to seeing them in.
I think it was their best movie too. I like the black and white alot though too, if it's a decent quality black and white. This was an interesting movie, underrated. Thanks for posting.
In the 80s Ted Turner colorized many old movies hoping that they would get more viewership. For the most part they did, but the films look terrible and are a pollution to their natural form and go against the original intentions of the director.
I guess they still sometimes show on TCM. A few colorized films (I have IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE) still exist on video.
I think this IS their best movie. And who's sniging "You're just too marvelous"...it's the best version, but I can't find it anywhere...was this version recorded just for the movie?
I wish I could own Dark Passage in colour, the colour gives it so much poetry. Thank you for posting, and giving me the chance to see a little bit in colour, I wish they did a DVD special feature of the film in colour.

regarding what evamarlow and rubytuesday717 said,
i love this film in b/w, not colorized.
and i am glad to know that someone else thinks this was their best film too.
it seemed different from their other films together.

this is a great movie, but I think "to have or to have not" is their best movie. However...Black and White is the way.

Thanks for the info, is that Ted as in "Turner Classic Movies"? Interesting info! Cheers for sharing that :)

I agree that colorization is generally tasteless. Orson Welles had the right idea: "Tell Ted Turner to keep his crayolas away from my picture!"
