valertysgirl is so right. no one can sing like merry clayton. what a great voice. please post more of her music. i really love her song merry-go-round, from her album keep your eye on the sparrow but can't find it anywhere
God, why can't the young black women today sing like this woman. Damn, Merry is awesome. I am a white chick that has lived in the dark for 45 years. (tears are crying on my face). I never new this was the woman who sang back up for Mick Jagger. Pleazzzzzze, bring back singers like this. The young generation today has no clue. Help them!
@valerysgirl The young women today run away from the blues. The blues gives it the flavor. The women of yesteryear had blues in them. Once the blues is gone it ain't "Rhythm and Blues" anymore. That's why the term isn't used anymore...it's shortened to R&B. Today there is no rhythm and definitely no blues...and everyone sounds the same with those weird vibratos in their voices. I can't stand it! And they think they're the shit! But they ain't got it today like the real divas of the Blues got it!
@dggd True statement. And don't forget about gospel. 99% of those soul women of yesteryear started their musical journey in the church. The music has been homogenized into soulless, bland gruel.
@luvureally Yes it has... Never knew it would get like this, after growing up in such richness of music in all genres. Mainstream music nowadays is just LOST and CLUELESS...no real grassroots or substance anymore. Sad.
I kinda think Amy Winehouse copied Merry's vocal style!

@luvureally Yeah...the gospel is the real flavor that made it all stand out. Yes it has changed into a homogenized brew of soulessness.
