  • I am a rookie in ubuntu. I have tried it for a week. I think this version is not that user friendly. The Start menu is missing. I don't want to type an application name in search box every time I need to start a program. It is quite annoying. Besides, I can't find any ways to download themes in select themes screen easily. Where is it?

Can I open two file manager at the same time? It is too difficult to use.

  • I Like this versioan :D

  • @DimanaLagiCom Ubuntu is ROCK :D

  • @RodKvh

    try vm ware

  • IF I INSTALL LINUX CAN I BE A L33T H4XX0R TOO AND HAVE THAT AWESOME MATRIX BACKGROUND AND HACK SHIT?????????????????/////////

  • @pingpang11

no, linux is the most secure os (except for maybe free bsd). windows is 2nd and mac is worst.

There are only like 2 viruses for linux, and even if you system is inffected, it won't have much of an effect unless you run it with root privleges.

  • The Ubuntu is great OS, but how about the safety they said Linux OS is easy to hack is that true ???

  • 11.04 with a zen kernel is the fastest and most appealing ubuntu os.

Do you happen to know why they made 11.10 have a dark theme instead of the light grey?

  • Love your videos thanks subscribed

  • IF YOU WANT TO DOWNLOAD THE UBUNTU 11.04 FREE AND FAST SEE THIS VIDEO

  • okay um im gonna dual boot my computer and wanna know why is ubuntu good? i know it doesnt have viruses and its free but id like to know why people use it and what are they using it for is it programming if yes tell me more :P im new to this and i love new tech (even though ubuntu isnt cuz it wasnt released yesterday :P) that i discover (on my own) so yh any free tips for the new guy??

  • Well explained

  • очень много слов....

  • it is funny how most linux users that i know (including myself) loves the matrix wallpaper. btw, best matrix of all time in my opinion is the 1st movie. am i right? haha

  • @Rustopia01 2nd and 3rd matrix are average. 1st was incredible.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic I just upgraded from 11.04 to 11.10 and I still am unable to connect to any WPA 2 wifi network... Is there any way I could fix this? I checked different forums about that issue but I wasn't able to fix the problem... What can you suggest?

  • Anyway to downgrade back to 11.10?

  • i prefer gnome to unity thumbs up if you do to

  • Libre Office is also available for Windows.

  • Bloated junk.

  • @RodKvh hi, i am having problems with my ubuntu. um i updated it about 2 weeks ago maybe 3, from today. my tool bar wont come up on the side at all. i bring my mouse over to the side and there is nothing. also everything on the top right, is gone. there is no ubuntu symbol to shutdown or anything. all there is are: file, edit, view, go, bookmarks, and help. and those are on the top left. iv tried the help but it doesnt deal with my problem. what do u think is the problem. thanks

  • @RodKvh No I was using it on a normal system. But I use VirtualBox sometimes.

  • Do you have to be awesomely computer savvy for this operating system?

  • @DoctorUnplugged Depends what you're doing.

  • @DoctorUnplugged no its the easiest linux to use!

  • @DoctorUnplugged Your computer "Savviness" has to be anywhere between that of an average windows user and an an IT guy. But if you're a mac user, you're screwed.

  • When I run Win 7 on my computer minecraft runs much better than it does than it does on ubuntu on the same computer.

  • wallpaper in an OS review... and i was about to sub

  • How libre office is better than open office?

  • @1maxroman Basically, it has a more active developer community, meaning features get added more quickly, and bugs get fixed quicker. It's more open-source as it's not controlled by Oracle as OpenOffice is.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic

Well it should be better then, but I see it as being just as good (or bad) as OpenOffice

Actually it's not as good as OpenOffice, because, when I tried to use "Format Painter" in Libre, it failed to work. I tried many times, even rebooted, still no luck

My computing life uses word processors a lot, and I'm aware of many w.p. tools that most people don't use. When a friend urged me2use Linux (with OOo) I knew it wouldn't have the richness of features of MSWord. I was right

  • May be I am too noob, but I could not install ubuntu 11.04 on my sony vaio. not through Wubi and not through just ordinary installation.. :) that's when I decided to use wubi all the time. Coz, it is pretty much the same experience, but you just have an option to go to windows, which I don't do. - Ubuntu is so much better. Pitty I am bound to use 10.04.

  • Should i download softwares as Mac OS or Windows so i could install it for the Ubuntu?

  • im a noob how do i install flash on ubutun

  • how much do u have to pay for tha running system or can u download a free version off it i really need to know i need a new runnig system that will work 100%

  • @MACA001able It's 100% free. Just go to the Ubuntu Homepage (google it) and download it. But I suggest waiting for 1 week as a new release is about to come out!

  • @InfinitelyGalactic thanks for replyin to me dude :) how much gig doe it holed up in my harddisk?

  • The background in the intro looks like The Matrix... LINUX IS THE MATRIX?!

  • I'm having a very hard time getting my wireless internet to work, any advice on how to fix that? thanks!

  • okay.. i just dumped fedora because it was too complicated for me. i only had one user on the computer and yet somehow it wasnt the root user. so it was basically impossible for me to install anything, like adobe flash, since i couldnt get access to my own freakin root user account. not to mention my terrible skills with terminal. so im curious, is ubuntu any easier than fedora? because if it is, im going with that. fedora has too much coding for me.. im not that good with computers tbh

  • @MrSlimJimProductions Yep, Ubuntu is considered to be much more user-friendly, not just for people who know about computers.

  • Ubuntu's like Mac OS X.. If you're a gamer, don't get Ubuntu or any Linux OS.

  • Which is better: Fedora or Ubuntu?

  • @davidscloud Ubuntu is more user-friedly and noob-friedly, fedora needs a longer time to get used to, but both are great systems. Just try both of them out, eg in a virtual machine

  • im new to linux i have question with these like 9.4.0 and stuff like that could you put a old ubuntu and update it like you could say a mac?

  • Would this be good on a netbook

  • very cool just got handbrake working on my laptop with Ubunta 11.04 and it works fantastic for riping dvd's to my hard drive

the more i use it the more i fall in love with Ubunta

the only damn thing left is Netflix for Ubunts but Hulu works just fine and for now i have VirtualBoxOSE instaled with xpsp3 just so i can watch Netflix on road trips with laptop

Finley Ubunta is for the every day user KUDOS to every one out there for there hard work on Ubunta

  • windows 7 crashed for some fucking virus in my pc, im using unbutu until i get my pc repaired, and its really cool. But i actually like to game on pc so yeah i miss windows for that

  • will the version of ubuntu run stuff like games and other windows aplications / software. loved unbuntu 10 but it wasn't any good for what I have to do and I couldn't play any of my games on it..

  • @phyriz007 Have you tried Wine? It is a program that runs .exe's(windows programs) on Linux. Its fairly easy to find i think its one of the suggested downloads.

  • @phyriz007 well they probably made an app for that just like mac how it has crossover probably made something similar

  • 11.04 sucks ass, Ubuntu 9.10 is the best for me..no thrills no frilz no bullshit

  • Just Say No to ubuntu and any other distro that uses mono and that apps like banshee and fspot that used it for a codebase. It is patent encumbered and we are given info by richard stallman a great stalwart of gpl and linux, to avoid it entirely. Mono is moot now anyway given vala and go.

  • hey, i was wondering if u cud help me :) i got windows 7 as primary OS, and i got the 32bit Ubuntu installed via wubi. i was wondering if it is possible to install ANOTHER linux os, and if so how and which one? i aint a very good person at partitioning and what not :')

  • @TheDarkUnleashed I am not good at partitioning either. Yea you install another Linux operating system like jolicloud or linux mint based on their installers for windows.

  • @pschamp723 thanks :) id like it if someone did a youtube video for it tho, u know? i mean, its so confusing looking at the text :)

  • 11.04 seems to have a LOT of issues i would reccomend sticking with some of the older versions.

  • i love ubuntu

  • its called a taskbar not superbar.

  • my xp crashed in my old pc, can i just download Ubuntu and put it on a disk, install and be back up and going good? will it partiction (sorry cant spell) and work all on its own? ty for any reply

  • @gump54 Yep, throw it in, and the installer should take care of the rest.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic ty for the reply and thumbs up on how good Ubuntu works! o and 2 thumbs up for you taking the time to help me out!!!!!

  • Ubuntu 11.04 is really a giant turd. Unity is shit and the OS is buggy as hell! There is a bug affecting lots of people that cripples a multi-MBps connection to dail-up speeds. Canonical, please never release such BS again. Delay a release if you have to! If you keep this BS up I'll go to Fedora or even windoz if I have to. So frustrated!!!

  • I'm wanting to use linux on my laptop as it tends to lag with windows 7 basic 32bit (its 4 years old). What would be the most noob friendly transition to linux and how much memory would I need to run it efficiently?

    Thanks!

  • @sapnyosentry I'd recommend either Ubuntu or Zorin OS. Really 1Gb RAM is plenty for an everyday system.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic

alright, i installed ubuntu 11.04. its kind of confusing at first but it sees pretty easy to navigate once you learn how linux operates. I'm liking it so far :)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic Not for Vista, hehehe. Look at my channel for a video called "House Fire made with Blender 3D" watch it tell me what you think. Then read it's description and tell me if I'm not alone.

Vista sucked, I got Ubuntu at the beginning of this month, it does more on the SAME machine than what Vista could, ever.

I just found out how to run Minecraft.

Oh man Vista is so not making a comeback.

    It feels liberating.

  • @sapnyosentry 1GB Ram should run fine, I advise you get Ubuntu 10.04, 11.04 is buggy as hell!

  • How do i remove that 'left panel' I heard it wasn't there in previous version. I'd rather have the links on the top bar. Thanks!

  • @MinzGeygong In your log in screen click the user but before you enter the password look at the bottom of your screen. Select Ubuntu (Classic) and log in as usual. That should get rid of the annoying Unity desktop.

  • @rampage241 Thanks rampage ; )

  • Cant decide between ubuntu and fedora. Which one and why? Thansk

  • @woahbre Well i started with Ubuntu 10.10, i suggest you start with Ubuntu first to get ur feet wet then if you want try out Fedora ;)

  • Don't forget you can use FreeTether from local Wifi on a Palm Pixi+ or Pre and tether into your local wifi using your phone as a dongle. Without all of the messy and useless shell commands which can force you to WebOS Doctor your phone.

  • its shit

  • @EpilepticElbow Yep, that would work great...goodbye viruses, defragging, and registry cleaning!!

  • @InfinitelyGalactic first thing i noticed in Ubunto is that my headset is now working lol

  • @InfinitelyGalactic Check out a video I made called "House Fire made with Blender 3D" watch it tell me what you think, and make sure to read the description.

It's about the last straw I had with Vista, making it a no brainer to make the switch to Ubuntu.

    Permanently.

    I use Ubuntu 11.04.

    Works fine.

  • AUSTRALIA

  • Im new to linux and im thinking about chainging my netbook's OS on it, it has XP home on it and would chaging it to ubuntu be better and do i have to download a netbook version of ubuntu

  • @TestTube03 nope...just download normal Ubuntu. It'll work swell on a netbook.

  • its so ugly

  • how can i install it on my netbook using wubi pliz help

  • touchwiz

  • Does anyone else follow the guys mouse? xD

  • is it better than windows 7 starter?

  • @unknown25guy Yes...on a netbook, Ubuntu is definitely the better option over Win 7 Starter. :-)

  • @unknown25guy to be honest anything is better than windoze 7 starter, u can't even change ur wallpaper xD

  • @91jmda yeah ur rite

  • can i use this insted of windows 7 for home uses?

i consider to buy a laptop that comes with that operating system and i have option to add 120$ for windows 7 or stay with Ubuntu 11.04 for free

  • @bupvids If you're an everyday user, I'd stick with Ubuntu 11.04. It will cover almost every consumer need that you might have.

  • Awesome and informative videos. Im pretty new to the linux world and have learned a lot from you. I've recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my Laptop. The sound is not working for me. I'm searching all over for any help on either drivers, terminal instructions or any other additional download needed to make it work. Any idea on how to fix??? I have a Nvidia Geforce GT 540m.

  • :o the 404 song

  • when i start my ubuntu 11.04 it doesnt have the dock like thing at the left its like a regular ubuntu/fedora menu at the top HELP

  • @HAFhotandfluffy Basically, that means that you're graphics card can't support 3d acceleration. In order to get Unity, you'll need to install Unity 2D. Just google around, and you'll find detailed instructions on how to install Unity 2D. You could also try to download the proprietary drivers for your graphics card by clicking 'System'>'Administration'>'Hardware (or Additional) Drivers' and see if there's anything to install. Hope that helps...good luck!

  • Reviewing OS by its default wallpapers, great...

  • @nemis123 It's legendary isn't it...lol. Ahh, this review could have been five minutes shorter. ;-) Point taken, sir...agreed.

  • libres office=microsoft wordpad copyed:P

  • I would use this as my default OS if it had as huge gaming support as Windows. But using on my work PC.. Going great

  • This version of ubuntu best matches as operating on mobile than on desktops

  • I've never used linux or ubuntu. i wanna download this but which version should i get? linux mint or ubuntu 11.04?

  • is this your main os?

  • @iJailbreakU1234 Not at the moment, no. But I actually enjoyed using it, especially after it stabilized. Thinking of moving back there actually...

  • @InfinitelyGalactic You should :P btw make a review of 11.10 because it is going to be phenomenal.

  • @zikalify Agreed, it's looking amazing!!

  • hey im have a pretty big question....

im will install ubuntu 11.04 on my pc

what better 32 bit or 64 bit?

and i have 2 GB RAM

and how match you use in this video bits?/

    thanks

  • @ubuntufxp If you have 4GB of Ram or more - go 64 bit, otherwise stick with 32 bit. Hope that helps. :-)

  • is this the "alternative" or is this the "desktop"?

  • I have and like the Ubuntu 10.10 better. I have the Windows 7 theme and like it a lot.

The 'dockie' on the left side of the screen irrates me. It just gets in the way. If it could be moved I would like that very much, but I haven't found a way to do it.

Another thing I have lost my network connection with Ubuntu 11.04. I run mobile racks in my computer which allows me to just slip in a new hard drive and boot. Windows 7 works fine, but when I put Ubuntu in the router LED goes out..no connection.

  • too much unnecessary talk about backgrounds. watched about two minutes and then closed. Really, a video of any kind has only 30 secs or maybe 45 secs to grab attention and you wasted that time talking about the beta release and not to be used in production etc. just mention its a beta and move on... anyway your video was boring. sorry.

  • @TheTerraxa You're welcome, my vids certainly aren't for everyone. This one was supposed to be rather in depth, and some like that, others don't. There are plenty other reviews out there. ;-)

  • Damn I hate this unity , I think the UI for 10.10 is WAY better

  • @gruntlover2 there two versions get the desktop one this i think is alyernative

  • Comment removed

  • also may you maximize the windows?

  • can you please give a downloa video via usb?

  • Is it possible to play games that are designed for windows on Ubuntu?

  • @RaveBlaiz Yup, it is possible...you'll need to install 'wine' on Ubuntu which is a compatibility layer, and then google 'wine hq' and search that site for the game you're wanting to install to see if it works well. There's no guarantee that it will work, but there are usually ways to make them work. Good question. :-)

  • Is it possible to install and run windows applications on this version of Ubuntu?

  • @dsitek Yup, it is possible...you'll need to install 'wine' on Ubuntu which is a compatibility layer, and then google 'wine hq' and search that site for the Windows application you're wanting to install to see if it works well. There's no guarantee that it will work, but there are usually ways to make them work. Good question. :-)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic Thanks for the quick reply. In this version of Ubuntu, how do you tell what applications are running? Is there an equivalent to the Windows ALT+Tab?

  • @dsitek Yup, ALT+Tab works the exact same way. As well as a Mac Expose feature as well, similar to Aero Flip.

  • hello i have fedora and i hate it and i have burned an iso to a cd but when i try reboot and install ubuntu nothing happens i just get the fedora screen everytime

  • @adrianstelianpopa Make sure that you've set your BIOS to boot from the CD drive first. Then you should see a purple boot screen, and you'll know it's Ubuntu.

  • This is a great video! Thanks for making it. I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux and this is really helpful.

  • Great video. I have installed ubuntu 11.04 to my win7 (dual boot), but unfortunately I have many problems with ubuntu. The biggest problems are the windows. If I have a window open, and then I open a new window, then it don't switches automaticly . I have to right click on the application's icon on the side bar and then select the application. Please help me. I'm a very newbie at using ubuntu.

  • @balagesaysthecool Hi there, sorry to hear you're having issues. You could try to move your mouse to an empty space on the desktop after launching the program from the sidebar. Also, make sure you've installed all the available updates in 'Update Manager' as that might solve any bugs you might have. Good luck and sorry I couldn't help more. If the problem continues, just google it, and see if it's something widespread and if there's a fix. :-)

  • great review. i'm gonna install ubuntu now. thanks.

  • Nice review really enjoyed found out pretty much everything i needed to know b4 installing ubuntu 11.04

  • @razzimagic Sure can! Same way that you would install it on windows or mac. Go to the Chrome website and click download and that's it!

  • i think that the designers should add a fucking software so that flash can be played into the base programing!!! makes meh mad i cahn't play games.

  • @MrDavidEkstrom you can youtube "ubuntu wine"

  • Unity was hard to get used to. i like 10.10 more.. :-(

  • Nice vid just WAY to in-depth. Gonna install this until fedora 15 gets its freezing bugs worked out ;)

  • 9 persons used windows!!!!

  • @patovaly Not true I hate Unity , but I like Linux . I use Linux Mint .

Unity 11.04 is the buggiest release of Ubuntu ever .

  • IIs it worth downloading?

    and

    Is it better than windows?

  • looks really cool i want to upgrade now but i don't want to go through the whole process up installing programs again so i may just download it to a thumbdrive and wait for the 12.04 upgrade

  • switching over to ubuntu tomorrow.

  • alsa driver not wrking

  • Just installed it yesterday... and i LOVE it!! :D

  • Its amazing that all this and the operating system is free! Ubuntu, your awesome!!!

  • I don"t know why people dont like ubuntu 11.04 ... i loveee it. I have unity 2D because my sistem cant handle the 3D version . In my opinion ubuntu 11.04 is much better than windows 7... P.D: Thanks for this awsome review

  • A 20 Min Vid??? :O

  • I would love to see how Ubuntu Server can beat Red Hat/CentOS in server availability. For that I guess they need to partner some hosts, provide better education solution (I love online training) and make Ubuntu Certification more popular for server admin.

  • windows always will be the same shit no matter if microsoft brings windows 8 .... 15 etc etc always virus will be the killer for them . the present and the future is LINUX wellcome to everyone now android " is taking the world but keep in mind android is linux " thank you google to spread LINUX around the world

  • i like the old ubuntu more....

  • and now the MOST important...HOW IS THE WIFI?

  • @u2joshua1 only on ASUS and EEE works so when you buying a laptop make sure buy a ASUS or EEE

  • I just tested 11.04 by running it from my HTC tattoo on my computer, have not tested any Linux distro in a year or two, this was big suprice to me, its odd but when you get used too it I bet its awsome. :)

  • can someone help me? i installed ubuntu 10.10 on my netbook as a dual boot with win 7, it worked fine until around a month or so in, then the icon displaying wireless internet connection started to tell me "connecting to *wireless connection name*" then after 5 minutes or so of 'connecting' it just tells me "wireless connections available" and will not connect to my wireless internet. i plan on updating but cannot, for obvious reasons.

  • @MetalUpYoArse There could be lots of reasons for that, friend...Not necessarily because of dual-booting...

  • @NonisMonster i understand that, i mainly believe it could be because i didnt update it to the latest 11 version, but now i cannot update because it is not connecting to the internet

  • @MetalUpYoArse ask to ubuntu they can send ya the cd installer with the last version

  • @MetalUpYoArse don't worry if you are inside ubuntu and you see message about virus , because they believe that you are using a windows platform . those message is just drama that programmers are putting on the internet to find more windows victims

  • ITS CRAP! Unity is just a big pile of sh*t forced on us by Ubuntu. I loved Ubuntu with Gnome 2 not a fan of Gnome3 and KDE is just bugy and slow. Never thought the day would come when I sent money to Bill Gates but windows 7 is rocking and wow Netflix, itunes and yes, yes, yes STEAM all work awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • does it come with anti virus

  • @tekryk there are no real virus' ive come across for linux, not many are around apparently

  • @tekryk noob ! The answer is NO! because ubuntu doesn´t needed to have an anti-virus!

  • @tekryk Linux doesnt get viruses, but you can still download some from the Software centre

  • @Pirateskarma I also subbed :) His reviews are very detailed !!! :)

  • My taskbar in Ubuntu is grey. How do i change it to the same colour as your task bar?

  • Comment removed

  • how do I controll my window effects? couse I was searching but don't found it (sry about my bad english)

  • @legoboyBelgium1 Just install 'CompizConfig Settings Manager' from the Software Center. Good luck. :-)

  • @InfinitelyGalactic ow ok. thanks :-)

  • @PJMAN2952 No unfortunately. Maybe in future releases. I know it stinks.

  • Why is Ubuntu so much more popular and wide-spread than openSUSE?

  • @spamllpitdept Not sure, they just presented themselves as 'Linux for Human Beings' so that's what the masses thought was easiest to use. That's still Ubuntu's primary goal, whereas openSUSE is designed to an awesome Linux system, not trying hide technical details from the user, much better for learning how Linux works imho.

  • @InfinitelyGalactic New numbers show that the popularity of Ubuntu is dropping , and more people are start to use Linux Mint ...

  • @spamllpitdept openSUSE targets more experienced and office users somehow. But you have a general feel that you have a better control of the system through the desktop, to my opinion. Until previous versions openSUSE was giving emphasis to KDE instead of Gnome. KDE is a little bit heavier than Gnome, maybe some people are oriented to Gnome. Well openSUSE is also a very popular distro to...Germany :) Now, while Novell is by side, it is more oriented to buisness world, and home advanced users.
