Cars and buses have crumple zones. They make the car hold up in an impact, but still crumple to soften the blast. Now, if you mean a VW Bug and a bus can represent the twin towers, I think my easy physics can apply to yours.

The problem with this sophomoric and laughably simplistic model is that the floor spans OBVIOUSLY do not have the same load bearing capacity as the actual load bearing columns, since floor spans, by definition, are not designed to be load bearing in the sense of the structure itself. The floor spans in the WTC 1 and 2 buildings are, like all floor spans, designed to hold up ONLY the load of occupants and furnishings. They wouldn't, for example, hold up a battle tank. (continued)

Bazant's bizarre notion is that the falling part retains its structural integrity when it collides with the building underneath. Hence Bazant's idea is known as 'crush down / crush up' - all the energy is supposedly directed downwards.
This is of course in conflict with fundamental physical laws known since the time of Newton.
Moreover Bazant's 'model' is in direct conflict with observed reality. Videos show that the upper portion is 'crushed up' on contact with the rest of the tower.

The towers collapsed through the floors. The outer columns of the building remained standing and were even responsible for knocking the mass falling on top of them out of line and outward. When the floors connecting the outer columns to the inner structure had been completely destroyed (knocked to the floor below, the outer columns fell outward, over and over again.
