  • I was 18 in 1968. Looking back I realize more each day, how i am so fricking fortunate to have lived through such a rich rich batch of singer/songwriters- simon, prine, van, lightfoot, waits, zevon, kristoferson, haggard, clark, axton, jj cale, fogerty, nick lowe, jimmy buffett, neil young, willie, Nilsson, John Hiatt, Mcmurtry.,John and Paul.....to name just a few.

  • always makes me want to play blues and get high.

  • my high school band is doing a paul simon field show. it's epic.

  • This song cheers me up on my worst days. The back up band is also the best. You can't beat Gadd, Tee and Levin. The studio musicians dream band.

  • Misleading title: Should have said LIVE, and lousy audio quality.

  • Paul Simon has the cutiest smile. I've been a fan since the 1970's. Love you Paul - from Israel

  • @wownouser Paul Simon is a Genio of the music

  • Steve Gadd gets a good sound out of that cracked cymbal.

  • Great song. Great intro.

  • Paul hit #6 in Billboard, 9-27-80. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Shalom, Paul.

  • What year was this song done?

  • @Jerseysson27 It's from a highly underrated movie called One Trick Pony. Worth watching if you can find it.

  • @anuteamsterium Love that Movie.

  • Where is Chris Walken when you need him?

  • is it just me or does this sound sped up to anyone else?

  • @83DrumProdigy - "Gadd is Godd" was written as graffitti in a bathroom stall at Berklee in '81. How's THAT for recognition, let alone accomplishment?

  • I was 10 when this song came out. Sounded great then and still does. One of my favorite songs of all time! The horns with that beat just wants to make you get off your a** and groove!!!

  • I love this. "one trick pony "LP record , 36 years ago. this album is my treasure.

  • FIRST HIT IN '57 W/ "HEY SCHOOLGIRL". TODAY WITH THE RELEASE OF A NEW ALBUM, HE HAS NOW HAD HIS MUSICAL CAREER SPAN 7 DECADES. WOW!! FROM THE 50'S TO THE 2K TENS THIS MAN HAS BROUGHT INNOVATION AND CLASS INTO MAINSTREAM ROCK AND ROLL. HE IS A TRUE AMERICAN TREASURE WITH NO EQUAL.

  • @carvisaisful You don't need to use all caps buddy. It kind of de-emphasizes your point.

  • This song makes me want to step outside and have a j...

  • @baconmanager If your American , you're not allowed to smoke a J , you get busted

and end up in prison .

Hi, I'm from the Netherlands .

  • This song is a natural high!! Just love it. : )

  • If this song doesn't make you get up and dance, then you're comatose!

  • @rennieallen amen

  • @rennieallen music can say it best when nothing is said and we just dance. :)

(not to imply lyrics are any less an instrument!)

  • @rennieallen Agreed!

  • @rennieallen Or Stephen Hawking.

  • @rennieallen agreed my friend. I left work tired as hell and it came on i was moving and tapping the steering wheel driving home instantly alert and happy!!!! Thanks

  • I love him at 2:22 :)

  • Yes, this great classic song by Paul Simon was

from 1980 from the movie "One Trick Pony.

This song was popular during the fall

of my senior year in high school in 1980.

First time I have heard this song in over

    20 years.

  • @superbulldog81 you took a break from this wonderful song for a 20 years? I understand though life keeps us busy

  • I remember growin' up with this song. Awesome.

  • Thanks for sharing this special video !

  • Thank you so much for this beautiful video

    hugs jolien.

  • Monomost Excellent!

  • Steve Gadd lays down the coolest drum beat in the universe on this tune. The fidelity is weak though. Listen to the version on One Trick Pony or Negotiations and Love Songs, you will hear the higher fidelity. Worth a listen.

  • This is the song that Joe Namath used to listen to back in 69, when he won the Super Bowl

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68 didn't this song come out in 1980? "One Trick Pony Album"?

  • Comment removed

  • @TheSPACECOWBOY68

    hhhmm.....probably was a S&G song?

  • Fantastic. Paul Simon is legendary!

  • Paul is going hard!! So love this!! for yrs!!!

  • You don't get a great beat like that just anywhere!

  • really fun to play on flute...not! but it turns out ok if u r skilled

  • This is such a great song. Paul simon is probably one of the greatest song writers in the last 50 years..............the guys a genius!!

  • YEEEEAAAAAA !!! Thank You :D

  • Our Gadd is a monkey...

  • Paul Simon's GREATEST

  • Love you Paul! Thanks for sharing!

  • They need to slow it down and funk it out like the album version.

  • A pure masterpiece! Nuff said.

  • upbeat...just great

  • great music

  • Oh my...I don't think I have seen a better old school Mr Simon. Thanks for posting this.

  • thank you lucky penny!! That comment made my day.. Actually I think he is just happy to see you :) who knew he had that going on!!!

  • Oh my god ... is that a gun in his pocket???

  • steve gadd deserves as much credit as ANYONE for this great song!!!!

  • Any one notice the horn solo is the same as Lionell ritchies "all night long?" All night long---late in the evening....HMMMM

  • hah, well spotted. It's a pretty similar figure... but it's pretty much what you play on this type of rhythm. It wouldn't surprise me if it was Earth Wind and Fire playing horns on both tracks... those guys got everywhere :-)

  • Simon's "Late in the Evening" (1980) on album One Trick Pony.

    Richie's "All Night Long" (1983)

Were you suggesting that Paul Simon stole the horn part from Lionel Richie? At least do your homework ... Paul's song came first.

  • Nope, I'm an old guy. Just comparing. Another funny thing is Paul did "me and Julio" on Sesame Street. I don't think that's a good song for a kiddie show.

  • Wouldn't that be the other way around? All night long was mid eighties.

  • haha...the bacist at lie 0:03 looks like w.b. mason lol

  • The bass player is Tony Levin. Check him out on Peter gabriel's Secret World

  • @looprevil100 I loved Tony Levin on the Liquid Tension Experiment, didn't know he was this old.

  • @looprevil100 Tony also played with King Crimson on 4 albums in the early 80's. Very original, experimental bass player. Adrian Belew, another member of King Crimson, played with Paul on the Graceland/Rhythm of the Saints albums.

  • @looprevil100 - Better yet, go to papabear dot com

And is that Jerry Marotta on drums?

  • Steve Gadd@mattberlin23

  • @looprevil100 or with King Crimson... or...

  • @looprevil100 He also played bass for a few of Steve Howe's albums. Or, at least on SPECTRUM.

  • To 1980 all over again. :)

  • What's with G. Gordon Liddy?

  • thats tony fuckin LEVIN. hes the man, you should check out him out on bass with people like peter gabriel or king crimson...i think he played with david bowie too he's got a great style

  • @trench

    played with Bowie?

    When was that?

DB has had so many musicians it is easy to lose track...

can't beat Ronno, Slick and the mighty Belew!!!

  • LMFBO!! That's what I thought when I first seen him!!

  • Comment removed

  • What's with this hyper speed version with Paul singing in a chipmunk voice? I heard Paul count it in as well. It apparently wasn't the drummer. Just goes to show you.....What exactly? .....I'm not entirely sure but it shows you something!

  • its like this is the original and we all get nervous no matter who you are if you look at the live versions years later its all more relaxed - its weird - or hes trying to sing in a higher key - but the later verions are better

  • The late great Eric Gale on lead guitar, Richard Tee on keyboards and Steve Gadd on drums! Now THAT was a great band!!!

  • You forgot about Tony Levin on bass !!

  • I love Paul Simon,.,. one of the best song writers ever in my opinion! And he can jam on that guitar!

  • Hey does anyone know that oldies song that sounds like this? Has a similar beat to this one.

  • Sing, Sing by Benny Goodman Big Band. Idk if this what you were refering to but the drums have a simlar sound.

  • I blew that room away

  • Finally! The original video! I have been looking for this for the longest time!

  • @retrofever1969

glad you like it but it's not the original version, this a later live version

  • @rreeves70 This is the closet version to original that I have found on youtube so far..Love this song!

  • @retrofever1969 yes i agree!

  • holy crap is that tony levin?

  • holy crap is that frank barone?

  • Holy crap,it sure looks like him.I didn't he played with Paul.

  • Dance all over the floor!!

  • Heil Simon

  • so many good times
