  • My teacher was a direct student of Grandmaster Gan for over 10 years. Master Ching Sau Huang moved from Taiwan to Hawaii where he currently teaches. He has what you described as a 'turtle back' and demonstrates jing. He often speaks highly of his teacher and has made it his mission to continue the teachings of Cheng Man Ching. I am glad I actually got an opportunity to see Grandmaster Gan on video.

  • Tai Chi 98. I know your Lao Shr, and you are very very lucky.

  • @corvinetdc 怎麼稱呼? 你有跟我師父學嗎?

  • I consider myself fortunate enough to have practiced Chen Tai chi for six years before I met Gan Lao Shr .I told my friend, if I did not know Tai chi, I would think that was the worst tai chi I ever saw. Stopped Chen on the spot, studied Yang is US, returned to Taiwan, and drove four hours every week to study with one of Gan Lao Shr's top four students in Puli. 18 years later, practice everyday.

  • @corvinetdc Although I never got the chance to meet Grandmaster Gan, but I was fortunate enough to study with one of his top students, Master Liu, my Shi Fu. He changed my mind about Tai Chi Chuan. I used to think it is for old people and quite useless for self defense. After he did a demonstration on me, I immediately gave up 6 years of practice in external art. Never knew Tai Chi Chuan is so wonderful. I wouldn't mind driving 4 hours to study too. It is well worth it.

  • @corbinshong, right. not many people understand true tai chi. 99% of tai chi masters think they have tai chi chi 氣 but they don't. No chi = no jing 勁= no tai chi. Tai chi moves require jing to be effective or else it will be like grabbing, pulling, tripping, and wrestling like what people do in tai chi competition. That is not what tai chi is.

  • No good at all

  • 深者見深,淺者見淺。

  • You are right. It is just that my master like to also call it "turtle back" because when you reached at certain lvl after years of practice, your back becomes round and fill with "Chi" like a turtle's back.

  • Ha! Master Gan is my grand teacher too. I am glad to see his movement. where are are guys practicing Tai-Chi? What I remembered my teacher pointing out was "tiger back" and "bear waist". Am I right?

  • I am very surprised to see Master Gan's video here. He is my grand shi fu (master). Never got the chance to meet him in person. :( He is the only student of Cheng Man Ching that has truly mastered Chen Zhi Tai Chi. No other students of Cheng's has that kind of body, "turtle back," "bear waist." He has a very stong chi and power jing. Hope to see more of his videos. :)

  • Thank you for sharing, awesome stuff !

  • Thank you for your comment. Glad you like it.

  • Thank you for this video. I met Gan Xiao Zhou once in Taipei's New Park (228 Peace Park). He was a very kind and generous teacher. I will always be grateful for the advice he gave me. Great to see him again. Thanks.

  • I had learned Tai Chi from Master Gan in 1983 - 1986 , but ceased to practice it for over 20 years. When I picked up and practice it again in 2007, he already passed away. It's regrettable.
