Just noticed it was 1yr ago since my last message re your R1 - time flies !
Mate, I still have my R1. I've made quite a few modifications to it and it's my pride and joy. As I have a GSX-R1000 K5 as my road/track bike, I alternate between the two.

it's all about the rider, getting a 1000cc as a first bike isn't bad at all, most of the people who died riding those bikes have died because of the speed not because they don't know how to ride, they are just too stupid and think that riding fast is funny .

Dude, I can imagine how ecstatic you would have been to ride the R1 ! Bought mine 1 week ago and haven't ridden it yet !
But please mate, do NOT stand so close to the edge of the road... a truck came very close. Be careful mate and enjoy your awesome bike.
