If the cost of living there will not skyrocket to be like Nairobi, then I can see it happening. And besides, it's time to empty Nairobi, the congestion is seriously overtaxing the system.
I hope that the design will be executed by Kenyan architects and urban designers....just my opinion as a Kenyan architect. Great thought for the growing population.
good project! the common mwananchi will move up a level as those who can afford it move to better places e.g. tatu ... e,g from jericho to buru buru and the ripple effect ...until kibera empty's!
This undertaking is remarkable and I believe it will solve lots of issues for its residents, from security to transport/recreation/shopping, etc. It's the way to go for the future, but I cannot help wondering why they had to use a full 1000 acres of arable, indeed very fertile Kiambu. And why construct 4-5some levels and not go higher to maximize on the prime are. I think areas beyond Athi river or Ngong would have been more favorable.
Nairobi city should spend some of the money they steal too pay city planners/Mathematicians/Computer Scientists/Architects at any University to design a Zip code system and make your address be where you stay. Or even just pay Google or solicit Google to do it for free for our poor asses. Then after all houses are numbered. Send all code violators fines to their houses by mail.
This is a good challenge for the Malili project which seems to have slowed down. Hope it improves standards. Nairobi is so ugly with all the extensions. Infact city council leaders are so stupid. There are so many code violations in Nairobi that they can fine owners and make so much money yet they claim to be broke.
Here are examples:
1) Trash disposal, even lack of cleaning the walkway of any property along a street.
Wow, even a state of the art stadium, better than the death den that is Nyayo. I will believe this when I see it. For now its just fancy computer generated graphics.
