  • Yummy and beautiful!! I had an idea as I was watching this... do you think the filling would work if the meat was mixed similar to the way meatloaf is made? Just wondering.

  • I love the recipe, but I love the stems ad think that they lend an amazing lid knob. I would leave them on. Just saying and of course, I can do it if I wish. Thanks for the recipe vid or demo.

  • Can you do this without all the foil?

  • @tdreamgmail well you could do it with only 1 layer of paper and 1 layer of foil, but you cant do it without because the pepper will dry and cook itself then

  • @AncientBoneCrusher lol me too

  • Epic goodness, I will try them, wanted to make stuffed peppers for a while now

  • in Turkey that called : Dolma

  • I READ ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND SOME PPLE PREFER TO PRE BOIL THE PEPPERS BEFORE STUFFING, AND SOME DONT, UGHH.. THIS IS A DELIMA ON I HAVE NO CLUE WHICH WORKS BETTER. i ALREADY BOILED MY PEPPERS BEFORE STUFFING THEM, SO i WILL FIND OUT IN AN HR IF MY PEPPERS FALL APART OR NOT.

  • @delam416 so? did they?

  • @suicider00

DO NOT PRE BOIL YOUR PEPPERS. I REPEAT DO NOT PRE BOIL, IT TOTALLY JUST RUINED IT AND FELL APART. MAYBE I BOILED THEM TO MUCH, I DONT KNOW, BUT ID PREFER NOT TO BOIL THEM BEFORE STUFFING THEM. DONT BOIL THEM AT ALL :)

  • SOME PEOPLE BOIL THE PEPPERS FIRST, IS THERE A DIFFERENCE? i AM BOILING MINE NOW AND THEN STUFFING THEM. 15MIN BOIL TIME

  • switches off -adverts ,

  • THESE ARE SOOO GOOD OMFG

  • this looks very nice. you can even make this very healthy with ground chicken meat or so

  • you need to taste the romanian version

  • what if i want the peppers raw can i just cook the beef as i normally would and stuff it into a raw pepper

  • Why was there a Dolce Gabanna ad in the beginning? Lol not to mention why was the male model taking his pants off?

  • I used Basmati rice with this recipe, and I swear I thought I died and went to heaven!! and I 'm an atheist !!

  • love to see that balkan recepies are in use in the us too :) :)

  • i'm from balkan and this is like a traditional dish in our country and we serve it with mashed potatoes, but we allways use yellow bell peppers, they taste better imo. but personally i prefer a similar dish called sarma (it's the same meat filling but rolled in sour cabbage leaves)

  • thank you for using a red pepper! so many people think that real traditional american stuffed peppers MUST be made with green, but unlike you I greatly prefer them with red or orange for the sweetness. Great video!

  • ANNNND now i'm hungry!!!!

  • I used to do that with deviled eggs. I'd cut them at the bottom slightly so they stay up. I've gave up eggs though.

  • beano optional ;^) another home run, chef john.

  • Chef John - You are helping my love life immensely!!! I used 1lb Ground beef, and a 1/2l/b spicy pork sausage. Turned out incredible. NOM - NOM - NOM

  • I feel hungry... Very nice video!!

  • Thank you for making me the king chef of the house. Your secrets are safe with me.

  • @FMJ1000 hahaaaaaaa

  • now how do you eat those

  • @ashwinkga well i usually eat them alone but its really good with anything like a small steak or some side meatballs or just brown rice but i usually eat it alone

  • @ashwinkga with a steak knife. i just made them. that's the only way to actually eat it.

  • @ashwinkga you serve them on a plate with som more rice, most of the time you then cut them in 3 parts cause thats the most easiest way to eat them tough, if you do that dont forget ur nice leftover sauce:P

  • @ashwinkga You bite into it :S

  • @ashwinkga With your mouth

  • How to eat that stuff. Any specified cutlery for that?

  • man, you rock! i tried this and the peppers turned out GREAT! keep cooking!

  • Yum! Nom nom nom :) I like it with green better but that's just me

  • @3rdgeneration22 Green peps have more vitamins too

  • Nice...

  • i made these and they were effing amazing. i went and voted for you chef john, you rock

  • i think im gonna try this {: .

  • i always wondered how to make this ... definitely going to try it this week! yum!

  • Tempting :-)

  • for vegetarians you can do the filling with just bread powder (the one you use for making the cover of fried things), parlsey, garlic, salt and olive oil. but then you don't need the tomato sauce aymore because it will will ruin the taste a little bit. (i'm also never using in in any case when i made stuffed peppers)

  • stuffed onions are possible...i've eaten them before and they are delicious...check out an iraqi recipe, maybe??

  • my ex bf's mom used to make these with green peppers and they'd put cold sour cream on them when they serve em

  • I cooked this the other night and it turned out very well.. I used a lil tony chachere. along with the spice that chef john listed and it was so tasty.. i love seafood so i think im going to try this with shrimp and cajun sausage..

  • Man those look really good and really gave me a lot of ideas, thanks.

  • stuffed peppers.....YUCK!!!

y mom loves them though, always made them when I was little. Next recipe please lol

  • man, you are *so* missing out...

  • Yumm i had that

  • Aw, you didn't show the insides after it was cooked :P

  • I have made stuffed peppers so many times....but the fact that you cut them off square at the bottom and making a tiny hole is a game changer! I mean duh! why didnt I think of that. great pointer!

  • Nice, very nice!

  • you are like a tottaly awsome person!!! me loving you like for real!! : )

  • voted

  • This looks soO tasty! I'm gonna have to try an make it!

  • My food wish? Tamales! You know how to make em?

  • Don't use wax paper unless you want waxy peppers. Parchment paper will be fine.

  • Thanks for the lesson!

  • OMG. This looks delicious!

  • awesome

  • good as always

  • I like your style of talking. It sounds delicious.

  • Nice twist to an old classic. I just posted "bell peppers and hamburger stew" with all the same ingredients plus more beef stock. Yes, I too like the green bells better for this dish.

  • make tom yum soup!!

  • no no no noooooooooooo......

The rice should be uncooked, much more than the beef, and with no cheese.

Then the entire stuffed peppers are cooked IN boiling chicken broth as they absorb the flavors.... at the end you bake them a bit.

  • rice uncooked, what kind of a joke is that?

  • it's leftover rice. Meaning that it has already been cooked for another meal...

  • The rice COOKS inside the vegetable, while absorbing all the flavors and juices. Got it?

  • the point is that you don't need to cook rice if you boil stuffed peppers. but this is baking so there is not enough liquid for raw rice to be cooked. peronsaly i don't like this recepie cause i'm used to traditional croatian way to prepare stuffed peppers, so if someone of you are interested in that dish try to google "punjene paprike". it's great with mashed potato, and it should be sweet, but it's not mandatory.

  • @KnightMD:

It sounds like a different recipe. Why don't you post the video of your recipe.

Personally, I like doing it this way.

  • HEY CHEFF JOHNN!

can you please make a rly rly good broccoli cheddar soup pleaseee? :D

  • yeah

  • This is the second time this has happened. I craved an egg dish, you posted one minutes later. I am craving stuffed peppers and voila! you are just awesome :)

  • thanks for bringing back the HD :D

  • alright im an english boy who has never even SEEN a stuffed pepper before..and i do wonder. How does one EAT a stuffed pepper?

  • With fork & knife with some of the tomato sauce spooned on top, maybe a little cheese sprinkle..Yum! Very common including restaurants in the northern US

  • wouldnt it all just kinda fall out though?

  • They do tend to fall apart. That's fine though. Neatness doesn't count. :)

  • @MFSherlock: After it's cooked, you take a knife & fork, cut the pepper apart & eat w/the meat filling. It's not meant to stay elegant & neat as you eat it. They're really tasty, too! There's also different variations on the filling (i.e. my Mother makes her filling essentially the same as her meatloaf recipe using crumbled crackers instead of the rice) but traditionally, here in the states, if you order stuffed peppers, you get the beef/rice filling like this one. Bon Appetit! :)

  • @tchapman1977 thank you i will give this a go!

  • mom doesnt use rice but still good

  • It seems as though using so little rice, already cooked, would end up like more of a meat loaf filling--very solid. Would either more rice, or raw rice, like I use in stuffing grape leaves, make for a lighter filling?

  • It depends on how full you pack the filling into the pepper as to how dense it becomes. The more you pack it, the firmer/denser the filling. Also, the more full you pack the pepper, the longer it's going to take to fully cook the center of the filling. Actually, my mother used her meatloaf recipe when making stuffed peppers & all of the different stuffed pepper recipes I've had always had a denser meatloaf consistency to them. However, you can always adjust the recipe to suit your tastes.

  • damn yummy

  • Hi,

i used to brown the meat in a pan before... but now i know better.... ;-)

i requested this recipe and i'm happy now.. :-))

    Joe from Germany

  • I voted! :)

  • to make it more tasty.

  • @drutter: Because beef tastes good. If you don't like it, you don't have to fix it or you can use tofu or whatever substitute you prefer but don't expect it to taste as good.

  • Wow i wish i could be your taste tester...

  • needs sourkraut

  • slightly slicing the bottom of the peppers! never thought of that... that solves a big problem for me :)

  • Love it ...... just never see these on a menu out!

    Making tonight.

  • These are great with feta cheese in them!!

  • Absolutely fantastic!! Thx for this posting.
