Omg.. You're gonna lose that girl - the bongo part.
When I first heard the boxset I realized that I never even NOTICED the bongos before. I actually thought they were a track that had been turned down all the way and was added back into the remastered but no, it's in the original version.. just sounds stands out so much better.
And Pauls basslines. Really proves that he is one of the single greatest writers of bass music in mainstream music history. Not so complicated but best for the songs.
I bought the Abbey Road and Let It Be Remastered albums and compared them with the older albums. In the car not really sure if I noticed a diff. Come Together actually sounded better before imo. The bass is too ridiculously loud. With the earbuds, I only noticed subtle differences...mainly the remastered versions being louder. That's it.
Actually Paul McCartney Told Michael Jackson To Start Buying Music Catalogs While Him And Michael Were Working On Paul McCartneys Pipes Of Peace Album, Michael Went Behind Pauls Back And Bought The Beatles Catalog, Even Tho He Knew Paul Was Going To Make A Bid On Them And Recover What Was Rightfully His And His Band Mates Music
You're more of a Dylan guy? I knew you were a man after my own heart. I have 14 Dylan albums; just in my CD case. And I'm about to see him live in a few days. Talk about anticipation.
MJ bought the Beatles songs back in the '80s and it did cost him his friendship with Paul, who never spoke to him again. From what I understand, when Jackson got himself into financial trouble years later he sold or was a partner with Sony in the Beatles catalog. So as of his death I think its something like Sony owns a certain percentage, and Jackson's estate owns the rest...
As for the remastered CDs, can't get them for now, but if someone who knows me feels generous around x-mas..
I'm a HUGE Beatles fan, but I don't have the roughly $150 for remasters box. Must be nice to be able to get the mono and the stereo ones even when you're not a fan eh Penn.
I don't know where Penn got his information. The Beatles (or George Martin, really) mixed in stereo at least as far back as Rubber Soul, if I'm not mistaken. Definitely by the time of Sgt Pepper. Maybe Penn is confused because they continued releasing Mono versions of the albums, but that's because many record players in those days couldn't play stereo records properly.
Joking aside - of course he does - see his thoughts on Dick Dale, Katy Perry (left Sony before her first hit), Wayne's World - you should definitely check out Penn's original post on the Stooges from back in July where he talks about Sony not letting him know about the new DVD releases
I'm totally not kidding. He's not a flashy drummer like Neil Peart or the heavy metal guys, and he's not a jazz drummer. But if you listen, really listen, to the Beatles albums, he gets a really bad rap as the least talented member. The guy's drumming has a quality most drummers don't even think about: perfectly appropriate to the given song and rock solid.
Ringo is an amazing drummer! Beatles songs are full of little flourishes here and there of unusual drumming. He was very creative. And listen to 'Tomorrow Never Knows'. How many other drummers would play a rhythm like that for that sort of song? People dismiss him because he never did the fancy show-off sort of percussion, but the fancy stuff ruins a lot of music.
Ringo's drumming on 'Rain' is still considered by most to be one of the best drum tracks ever recorded. It usually makes the top ten list of best drumming tracks selected by other drummers. 'Tomorrow Never Knows' is another outstanding track, I agree.
Yeah, the mastering on the original releases was awful. i can't believe it took so long to get them out, though there were some songs remastered for the anthology.
I LOVE the Beatles. However after listening I really think a big part of the WOW that people are missing is 2 things. The remasters are louder than the 1987 versions and also we are so used to listening to lossy MP3's that when you actually drop a CD in of COURSE it sounds amazing and far better. If you actually adjust the volume on both CD's to match you'll find it's NOT a whole huge difference. While I'm no audiophile there are reviews from a bunch that agree with me. But the music still rocks
Are you insane? I bet you're one of those people who have only heard early Beatles stuff. They are the greatest band to ever live, and I certainly didn't come to that conclusion through the media.
I am not a fan of the early Beatles stuff however their later stuff is just awesome. SGT Peppers and The Magical Mystery Tour are two of my all time favorite albums.
Really? No mention at all about the Cheap Trick/Sgt. Pepper concert? Is this because of your sponsors? Please say it ain't so! I saw it two times and loved it! Gave me much more respect for Cheap Trick.
Put them in context. They were 60s and 70s music. Lighter than the harder, more electronic music. They were good. Excellent for the time. I haven't seen much that be better or more lasting. Maybe they weren't the BEST BAND OF ALL TIMES!!!! but very few come closer. MAYBE U2, but only maybe.
Far as I know Michael Jackson owned the rights to all the Beatles music. He beat Paul McCarney to the punch and buy them. It cost MJ his friendship with Paul. They made some videos together and sang several songs. They were great.
MJ was good on business(sometimes)but he shouldn't have done that. Friendship is worth more than money. And they could have made a LOT more music together.
I agree with Rolling Stone Magazine: anyone who doubts Ringo's ability to drum should try to drum "Birthday." Granted, Ringo himself didn't exactly master it, but...
Probably not. It all depends on the quality the song and the headphones/ear buds you have. For a 128kps song on standard iPod ear buds.. I doubt you'll notice a difference. 320kps with some aftermarket headphones.. probably will notice it.
I've bought the beatles albums on vinyl(sometimes twice), then 8 track tape, cassette tape, CD, remastered CD, Anthologies and now I have to buy them again to listen in stereo? I wish technology would knock it off!
Penn - I very much agree - the new CDs sound, well, er, Fab! :) So happy I've bought the stereo ones, and I too am waiting on a Mono box.
Side Note - funny that the ad running before this vlog was for the US Army - not sure it's the kind of thing you would approve, altho I know you have no control over what ad plays before the vid.
Fuck is strong language. They didn't censor him, they didn't stop him from saying it. They just warn people who don't want to hear it that it's there.
basically - for many of the early albums, mono was the way the songs were meant to be heard - stereo was only used by real "hi-fi" nerds in the early 60s.
So the songs sound different in their mono versions - and some purists don't like the "forced stereo" of some early Beatles tracks, where all the instruments come out of one speaker and the vocals come out of another.
By all means, you first. Watching a video with someone talking about a product they just purchased by no means constitutes product placement. What the fuck did you expect when you clicked on a video titled The Beatles Remastered? I expected to hear someone discuss their listening experience with their purchase, which is what I got. Are you sure you're talking about the right video and not an advertisement on TV?
Its not that hes just reviewing a product. He's just talking up two products "Beatles remastered" and "The three stooges". Both of which are produced by sony, who is Penn's employer.
Honestly, step down off of your pillar of self-righteousness and realize that your opinion is not the only opinion.
I watch penn says because I want to hear HIS opinion, not the opinion that sony tells him to have.
Am I sane? no
How many fingers? WTF... Grow up and drop the internet tough-guy act.
I guess the important question here is, are you a fan of The Beatles? If you are then you would understand the importance and gravity of this release. These discs sound incredible when compared to what was previously available to the public, including vinyl. A remastered catalog of arguably the most popular band of all time is quite a significant event to music enthusiasts. I don't think its accurate to portray this video as product placement, even with the Sony connection.
And another bone to pick: Stop trying to go out of your way to make yourself sound like a super smart guy. Its horrendously obvious you're trying too hard.
Feel threatened or something? Apologies for being a little too stern in pointing out your misleading ideas. Why do people have to create a paranoid agenda out of everything? Can't you accept this video for what it is?
I like the Beatles..they are like sugar...sweet and pure...But by far Led Zeppelin is the all-time ...it's like fire....burning, and dangerous to be around....
It's hard for me to imagine what it would be like to have horrible taste. To say the Beatles and the Stooges suck is beyond bad taste, it is flat out stupid.
I gotta say, when they released the non-Phil Specter version of Let it Be, I still preferred the original market Specter release over the Beatles' intended version. But yeah, if you have the right system, even Rocky Raccoon sounds like Kashmir. I've got Anthology and a tight system - but I've also got my old turntable in very good condition and I just love hearing the old Beatles records on it above all else.
